Location: Ramona, CA | On my mostly original paint 300F I have several dings on top of the front fenders. The previous owner said this was from people leaning over the fenders. The owner before him sent me a picture that explains the dents. Regardless, has anyone had success removing dents and dings from these old cars without damaging the paint? I contacted a couple ding repair places and they said it doesn't work on old cars because the Sheetmetal is so much thicker.

Location: So. Cal | Yeah, the sheetmetal is a lot thicker on these cars so the other tricks won't work. You should be able to get to the backside of the dent so popping it out is just a matter of using a hammer and dolly. If you want to attempt to save the paint on it, wrap the dolly in a thin cloth first and use a small plastic headed or dead-blow hammer on the backside. That is your best hope to being successful. And if you go slow, you should be able to do it without ruining the paint....as long as the dent is pretty shallow. However, there's no guarantee and you could end up doing some spot paint repairs afterward.

Location: Wyoming | I had Anson at Front Range Dent Removal in Denver remove some massive dents (car was sideswiped) from the quarter panel/door of a 1970 Mustang that I was trying to preserve original paint on. It was expensive and time consuming, but that guy is an artist - I was extremely happy w the results. I’m not sure on the thickness of 1970 Ford sheet metal vs late 1950s Mopar sheet metal, but it’s worth a try; all you have to do is ask. I think some PDR techs/shops have better skills than others too. |

Location: Blythewood, SC | I had a paintless dent guy here in Columbia repair a dent in the top roll of the driver rear door on my 57 Plymouth. The dent happened about 2 months after the car was painted, so the paint was still fairly thick. The guy did a fine job. He asked me to remove the door panel before I met him for the repair. |
