Today, 9.30.2019 my little coupe turned 60!
Still running around with a basically untouched drivetrain (except transmission) and technical components like new.
At over 330K miles still with the original engine seals and PS system, not leaking. Even the inner tie rod ends and front wheel bearings
are still OE and like new. Differential untouched. Engine no noises and perfect oil pressure, just some blowby but does not smoke,
even during cold starts. At 60 years, it is faster than most new cars in a straight line or curvy roads.
Except for a transmission failure many years ago, never caused any problems in over 31 years of my ownership and years of daily driving,
even hough it has been abused before my time. The current Torqueflite in it is from a 61 Imperial, untouched and very high mileage too,
but performs good.
These cars are miracles on wheels. Just like the Chrysler ad said, "Cars that can do what they look like they can do", or
"The car of your life for the time of your life".
I'm confident, it will outlive any 2019 car on the road now. So keep going the next 60 years my little coupe.

Your car is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to see a write-up of the history of this beauty!

I arrived at Hahn AB, Germany on 10-17-60, and though we had some really nice Forward Look cars on the base at that time, none could compare with that one.

3 days ago I parked in a supermarket parking lot, an older upper class Mercedes close to me, about 20 years old. We both left at the same time.... or tried.
The MB didn't start, watched it for some time cranking, thinking about offering help, but didn't as these cars of course have FI and countless ECUs.
I felt bad for him, but it kinda was a good feeling when my Fury started in a fraction of a second and took off.
To understand that you have to experience the snootiness of Germans towards American cars, especially of "superior" MB owners.
In mechanic shool I learned old American cars are just garbage.... None of the German cars of that period are still around, while my 60 year old "junker"
sill outruns everything, but $$$ sportscars, on the roads.

Thanks Gary! Yes, I almost could write a book about it. Driving an unusual car gets you in contact with unusual people, some times nice encounters,
sometimes the extreme opposite, close to the edge... and sometimes pretty girls

Gary, I bet you had a blast in Germany. It was Germany at its peak and the GI's and the storys from the garrison towns have become a legend.
I bet there were lots of cars just as nice as mine.

I wish it was! Actually when the 60s came out, they joked "suddenly it's 1957". I like that, even better!

.

My dad was stationed in Germany in 1957 - 1960 at Kaiserslautern in the 55th engineers where they built pontoon bridges. He started collecting these US forces in Germany plates.

Sid, did you have your 60 imported 31 years ago or was a 1960 export?
Here is a reasonable set of 60 USFG plates on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/63-U-S-FORCES-IN-GERMANY-1960-LICENSE-PLATE...
somewhere I have a relic pic of a 60 ply coupe with one of these plates on it. I've missplaced it!!!!
I've posted these before ,but here's a pic of his collection.

Rocco, no, I bought it over here. It was originally a California car out of the S.F. bay area.

Sid --
It truly is a very nice car. I don't drive my Big-tailed Beast that much primarily because I'm an old fudd who can't keep his foot out of the the carburetors and because there are too many idiots out there in this country with their souped-up lawnmowers (i.e., Hondas, Nissans, etc.) who think they can challenge me. Incidently, a "speed contest" here (more commonly known as a Stop Light Grand Prix or drag race) is immediate surrender of the culprit's driver's license.
Again, a great car.

Thank you Joe!
I didn't know that stop light grand prixs can cost you your dl in the land of muscle cars. Germany is heading the same way, there has never been a problems with this until a certain "culture" invaded Germany. They can't drive and don't know when to stop and would rather kill someone than losing a race, part of there (justified) inferiority complex. The result are countless casualties of innocent people. I too don't drive it as much as I use to, because of people who should stay away from a steering wheel and ride a camel or donkey instead.

Yes, Sid, I enjoyed thirty months in Germany and left in May '63. The world was a much better place then and Hahn AB was in the Hunsruck mountains and nowhere any big cities, which was perfect for a country boy like me. I loved German food and beer, and the exchange rate was four marks to the dollar, so even low grade GI's got to enjoy getting out and playing tourist every chance we got.

My favorite car at the base was a '57 Belvedere hardtop in desert gold and white. It had been brought there new and sold to another GI in '61. I wanted to buy it, but it was priced too high and I had a very clean '53 Plymouth at the time and couldn't justify the '57. Most American cars brought over new stayed for many years and were sold and resold many times without leaving the base.

Here's a peak at a '60 Plymouth that belonged to an officer. I can't remember clearly, but I seem to remember it was a station wagon.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Germany, even today that part of Germany has friendly ties with the US, at least the older folks and some GI's of course brought home a German Fräulein but this country has changed. That is a very nice picture. Thanks for sharing!
