I am searching for my 57 Dodge the original 5400S Headlight Bulb. Nothing on eBay at the moment. Does anyone have some spare bulbs for sale? Or was this part number was ever superseded with another Bulb that is more available today??

Thanks!

John Quinn

John: As far as I can tell (from Section 8-34-175 in the 55-58 Mopar Parts book), all 1956 and 1957 two headlight (not 4) Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto and Chrysler cars used the same 7", 12V, headlight with PN 1648 135. My car (56 Dodge) came with replacement halogen sealed beams that I believe were GE H6024s.

If you go to the Sylvania bulb search website in choose 1956 Chrysler (they don't list Dodge), forward lighting and headlights, it returns with 3 H6024 bulb options:

Some H6024s might be too white for you but there are options (at list with Sylvania):

Here is Sylvania's yellowest:

And whitest (there is one in between too):

Thanks, Dave! You went out of your way for me on my request. I appreciate the quick response to my question. I will try the Halogens for now.

Halogens will draw more amperage than standard incondescent. Old wiring only adds to the problem.

So it is recommended that your harness be new or that you install relays. Otherwise you risk cooking your headlight switch.

Can't disagree.

*OR* you can avoid all that by going to LED headlights, like I, and several others, have:

Del S. (Dels56) went with Hella H4 7" housings (which I like better than the EMPI ones that I used). He says "They came with halogen bulbs, I replaced those with Aukee LED. Direct fit. The white spots are reflection of my garage lighting."

Thanks Ton and Dave. I think I will go the LED route and upgrade the wiring. Putting a relay in makes good sense.
Thanks Guys!

John: Not saying that relays are a bad idea. It would be 100% necessary if you were running H4 housings and, say, 55W H4 halogen bulbs. *BUT* if you run LED bulbs in those H4 housings, you will be drawing less current that the original sealed beams, negating the absolute need for relays.

I had plans (literally sketches) for relays (See below) - until I figured out about the LED bulb draw:
