Plymouth offered a 318 poly power pack engine option from 1958 through 1962. It included a 4 bbl carb, dual exhaust and a up graded dist vacuum advance and produced 260 HP. The better choice seems like it would be the 350/361 golden commando at 305 HP. For that reason the 318 power pack is a rare find. I have heard rumor's that there was a special camshaft in the power pack engine but could never fine any reference to that.
Any information about that?

Thanks
Will.

Thank you. Any info on 1961/2 ?

I was just able to find a reference to a "power package" camshaft in my 61 parts book... Part number only, 1944712

Will.

rockerarm - 2021-12-11 9:01 AMAny info on 1961/2 ? I was just able to find a reference to a "power package" camshaft in my 61 parts book... Part number only, 1944712

1944 712 first show up in the 1959 Parts book. And the it stays through 1960 and 1961. However, in the 1962 Parts book, Section 9-15-0, subsection 9-15-1, CAMSHAFT on page 9-12, it says:

"Power Package w/318 cu.in.Eng. UP TO Eng. No. S318-89994 = 1944 712"

and then

"Power Package w/318 cu.in.Eng. AFTER Eng. No. S318-89994 = 2268 991"

Hope that helps?

As a matter of interest, in 1962 (from page 14-11) there were two 4 bbl Power Package carbs listed as

"SP2, SD2, w/Power Package, w/318 cu. i n . Eng., 4 B a r r e l , w/o Closed Vent = Carter 3247S, PN 2203 138"

and

"SP2, SD2, w/Power Package, w/318 cu. i n . Eng., 4 B a r r e l , w/Closed Vent = Carter 3249S, PN 2203 142"

Going back, in 1959, (pg. 14-5 in the 59 Parts book) the Plymouth Power Package Carbs were as follows:

"MP2, w/Power Package, Standard or overdrive = Carter 2813S, PN 1858 976"

"MP2, w/Power Package, Automatic (trans) = Carter 2812S, PN 1858 975"

At least in 1959, searching for "Power Package" turns up a lot of specific parts including the intake manifold PN 1851 762, Air Cleaner PN 1859 457, and Distributor PN 1842 812. No specific Power Package Dual Exhaust listings, just Dual Exhaust.

If you are buying from the carb centre i highly recommend them, their service and delivery made a very pleasant change , what they advocate re carb set up with a fit and drive was true to their word, it is the first time i have had a carb new or remanufactured that didnt an adjustment of any description.

Interesting. 1962 seems to be a one year only application. First year for the cable

accelerator linkage which "pulled" the throttle open as opposed the the earlier

hard linkage which "pushed the throttle.

The updated cam shaft part number may have superseded the earlier

number.

Thanks for all the information guys. Earliest parts book I have is 1960.
