I have been searching the interwebs for about 1/2 hour and cannot find a key to decode this tag. Incase I cannot get the picture to load it is

151 02866
P0627L5615 XX3

I am hoping this will have interior information on it. The dash is black, seats are black top and white sides. The door panels are red carpet. Carpet is red, paint is red, but it could've been white originally.

Hello Jimmy.
151 on your data tag is a body type Belvedere Club Sedan (2door Sedan) with 6 cylinder engine (251 would have V8)
I guess your car originally Iceberg White (code XX3) on the tag, but I have no idea about 3
Looks like this tag don’t give some info about trim code
Any combinations of body types, paint schemes, trim codes and other useful information you can view here

http://www.forwardlook.net/19571958Plymouth/58PlymouthOrderSheets.h...

I posted similar cowl tag picture of Belvedere Convertible for comparison, but I have no idea what does it all mean as well…

Thanks! I looked all over for that and couldn't find it. It does appear that the interior and other things are not on the tag. Turns out the 3 was for "A silver anodized aluminum Sportone insert is available as an option on all Belvedere and Sport Suburban Models. To specify this item, substiture the numeral "3" in place of the third letter in the Color Codes below." I am happy it has this option, although I am pretty sure I don't have that insert, if it is the one that runs down the side? The man I bought it from said someone makes them out of a wrap? I am years from getting to that point though. Next I am going to try to identify the trans. There are V8 manifolds sitting in the engine bay.

Based on what I have learned about early Torqueflites and the fact that I can see two coolant lines coming from the transmission on their way to the radiator, I would say that you have a liquid-cooled cast-iron A-466 three speed torqueflite. It would look something like this (except there would be two coolant lines coming off this side):

This photo is from a 56 Imperial with a A-466 Torqueflite

The transmission part number is stamped into the "rail" above the transmission oil pan on the side with the filler tube, like the photo below.

I am guessing your number will be 1823 593 (but that is just a guess)

Firstly, I guess that «3» is not mean molding on your car.
According to the table (code 413), it is option on the Plaza models only which run from front edge of the front door to the rear bumper.
It is standard on the Savoy series and optional on the Plaza.
But probably Belvedere with optional Sportone full length molding has «3» too (single molding was standard) as stated in this brochure:

http://www.oldcarbrochures.org/United%20States/Plymouth/1958_Plymou...

Or like on this Plaza 2door Sedan, except «Spring Special» molding on the front fender…

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=73837&...

I also posted picture of Belvedere Four Door Sedan with Sportone trim below, cowl tag shows AA3, similar like yours but monotone Black paint.
So, probably your guess is right: «3» means the Sportone…

The car has V8 engine instead L6 as shows (code 151) on the tag… Weird…
According to the table again, code 151 means the L6 Belvedere Club Sedan and 251 for the V8. Maybe there was an engine replacement before?

I think you are definitely in the right ballpark. I was able to clean it up and find the numbers. "H1853676 F20 58." 1853 is on the chart, but not the 676 following it. The 58 at the end is the year I am assuming? F20, I have no idea. Could this be out of a truck or something?

I just ran 1853676 through the 1950 to 1965 Mopar Parts Interchange pdf (which does include some truck stuff) and it came up dry. 15 hits for 1853 (all transmission related) but none with 1853676.

What is the case number cast into the drivers side of the transmission? Something like 1736 236?

Cleaned up the side of the case and the numbers are 1824492-10 and the date is 1.7.58 A2 DN. I am really stumped on why this isn't on your chart?

Your stumped. We're frustrated. What we all need to remember is that we are dealing with 62 year old data that was last updated in Nov. 10, 1958. Furthermore, the 55-58 Passenger Car Parts List is not a historical document that lists all the part numbers that were assigned to a part with a specific unique function. After improvements to a particular part were made or a casting mold was worn out and replaced by the improved part and/or new mold, the previous part numbers were not kept in the Parts List for future reference. Only the active parts that were available, in this case just before Nov. 10, 1958, were included in the Parts List updates.

Since your transmission case was cast on January 7, 1958, 1824 492 might have shown up in the previous, February 20, 1958 version of the Parts List. However, between Feb. 20/58 and Nov. 10/58 improvements to the case to correct defects or improve the design or the economics of building the transmission might (must) have been made and the P/N 1824 492 was retired. Permanently.

Unless we can find a factory Service Bulletin or some other technical memorandum that documents a part number change, there is no way to track superceded parts back from the parts that are listed in the Parts List
as of a given date.

Case in point, neither the cast transmission case number or the stamped transmission assembly number on the air-cooled 57 Windsor A-466 Torqueflite that was swapped into my 56 Dodge earlier in the year show up in the 55-58 Nov. 10/58 Passenger Car Parts List. I find that very frustrating. Yet somehow the transmission exists and works (well, at least it does now, after it was rebuilt).

We have to live with the information that is available. Sometimes we get lucky. Many times, we don't.

Casting numbers. Not part numbers. Parts with different numbers become part of an assembly, which has a part number and is listed in the parts book. If you couldn't buy a tranny case by itself, then it wasn't included in the parts book.

I know that the post is old but today a friend of mine has found a 1853676 tranny ! I made some research without luck on US parts manual ! But i've also some canadian parts manual and the 1853676 is listed in the '59 Dodge parts manual. It's a Powerflite for 8 cylinders (6 clutch discs)
