Does anyone else have trouble with weak hood springs? My 56 Custom Royal Lancer came with red springs and a hood prop stick, custom made from a 1 X 2, and painted Sapphire white.
I bought a new set of springs from 1955 1956 DODGE BRAND NEW HOOD SPRINGS MOPAR CHRYCO NEW | eBay. The new springs were Black. They were weaker than the red ones. I see no alternate hood spring attachment point to change the tension like on the trunk lid springs.
Has anyone tried pressurized struts?

Gerry: Sorry to hear about the eBay springs being weaker than the OE springs. I would have bought a set years ago if they were red. Mine hood springs, on my 56 Custom Royal sedan, were/are fine strength-wise, just the paint on them was poor.

I ended up creating a tool based on one designed by Sven (Wizard) and was able to remove and reinstall the springs after painting them. I would never call them weak so I am sorry to hear that your OE and the eBay springs are not cutting it. Not sure what the solution will be. A good set of used springs from John at Big M??

I did a search for "Hood Springs" before I posted this question to the members and it did not show your thread from March 2021.
That thread included everything that one would ever want to know about hood springs.

Problem solved. I ordered two 24inch hood lift pistons from Redline Tuning. I only needed one to keep the hood open.

The Ebay springs worked great on my '56 Plymouth Fury. No issues at all. Is the Dodge hoood that much heavier that they need a different spec, or are your hinges worn out?

Either too much chrome or too much bondo.

I solved the problem. I installed a hood lift strut from Redlinetuning.com. A quality part and I installed it with two holes drilled.

Gerard: Based on the photos that you sent me (and uploaded after resizing to 1024 x 768 (about)), I think your issue is the heavy non-factory undercoating that somebody applied to the underside of your hood. Your hood should be yellow on the bottom, not black undercoating. I would carefully remove it. (It won't be fun or easy).

(Mine got painted black but the paint isn't as heavy as undercoating so my OE springs are fine. I might paint the underside the proper light blue (in my case)).
