Looking to see if there's anything I can learn from the cowl tag. At this point I'm not even sure what body they started with at the coach builder.

.
SERIAL NUMBER M312128655:
M = 1959
3 = Dodge
1 = Coronet
2 = Hamtramck Assembly Plant
128655 = 28655th Dodge Coronet built

SCHEDULE M0315 11 932:
0315 = Scheduled on March 15, 1959

BDY 311 = Dodge (3), Coronet (1), 2 Door Sedan (1)
PNT BB1 = Blue Diamond Paint (BB), Monotone Paint Scheme (1)
TRM 999 = Special Order Trim

421 = order code 601 = New Car Service preparation
436 = order code 626 = Delivery Route – Trucking and Drive
449 = no info. I've never seen this code before!

Here is the options list ends on "9":
Custom Trim Group for Coronet Series
Rear Quarter Stone Shields (unlikely)
Sure Grip Differential
Rear Fin Chrome Inserts (unlikely)
Rear Quarter Ornament Chevrons (unlikely)
Padded Sun Visors
Heavy Duty Front and Rear Springs
Heavy Duty Rear Shock Absorbers

What option does your car equip with?

I’ve found this old thread on the forum;

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=32120

The same ’59 Dodge Coronet Ambulance built at same day (March 15, 1959) just sixth car before your!
It has VIN M312128649 (vs yours M312128655)!!
The SCHEDULE changed also on 6 cars: M0315 11 926 vs M0315 11 932 (926 vs 932 = 6)

d500neil (RIP) said in that thread: “This car has EIGHT leaf springs--most I've ever seen are 7 leafs, and the rear brake drums are at least 2/1/2" wide---they look more like 3" drums, but that could be an illusion.”

Therefore, I can assume that code 449 on your cowl tag might be interpreted as ORDER CODE 459 = HEAVY DUTY SPRINGS - FRONT AND REAR – see the attached build sheet of another 1959 Dodge…

The order code 569 (Heavy Duty Shocks – Rear) also remains in question…
