Over six months and no posts from the Desert Southwest Region! Is there anybody alive out here in the desert? I live in New Mexico, and we'd had no precipitation in almost eight months. In the last three to four weeks we've had almost five inches of rain. My 58 Royal has been sitting outside awaiting an engine rebuild, and I never worried about rain or rust, but I'm reconsidering that now! My engine should be back together tomorrow, and hopefully back in the car by next weekend.

I'll be posting some pictures of the process in the next week or so, now I just wanted to see if the desert had swallowed up the rest of you...let me know!

I stopped posting in this section because I wasn't getting any responses to my posts here.

But I'd enjoy seeing pictures of your car!

Thanks for the response, Kenny. I've been watching this region's lack of postings, and wondered if anyone ever looked here. Apparently not very often!

I'm taking pictures of the reassembly of my engine, which will hopefully be finished this weekend. I'll post some pics in the Member's Rides area soon.

Maybe some if the other folks in the desert will start posting in this area again...

I am about 60 miles (or less) from San Fidel. Just 35 miles on NM 6 (old Route 66), and about 25 more miles west on I 40. Do you have family or friends there?

No, I bought a stick set-up from a guy parting out a '57 Plymouth with a 301. The guy isn't real enthusiastic about shipping it to Nevada (tranny, bellhousing, starter, clutch, pressure plate, linkages, etc.), so I thought I could pay you to pick it up, box it and send it to me.

P.S. _ was through your area back in '85.

I know what you mean, John...too hot to drive my wagon (no A/C or tinted glass yet.) I have what I need to finish my Imperial and start driving it, but man, a 5,000 pound car with a 440 in city driving with premium at $3.20 per gallon...the truck is much cheaper to use at the moment.

Anyway, am glad to see this forum waking up. We have one of the longest "driving seasons" for vintage tin. We're the test bed for daily driving while our friends to the north and east have to tuck their rides away during "salt season."

Kenny,

PM me with the particulars of your purchase. I can't promise I can help-I don't have a bunch of spare time, but I'll sure see what I can do for you!

I understand....I have a fender I need to send to Pennsylvania and a piece of dash trim to pull for another member. Am grabbing overtime as much as I can and have little free time. I seem to be online a lot, but I have a screwy double-back, on call schedule (hospital work.)

Stand by for a PM. I hope you can help.

I check in to look at the desert south west every so often. I would love to see pictures of your '58. If anyone is interested, the rocky mountain region is planning a cruise in Colorado Springs on September 30. Most likely not a big turnout, but if you want to make the drive, let me know!

Well, if you think it's bad in AZ, try livining in Eagle Pass, Texas. A respectable mechanic and reasonably who can work on a classic and appreciate the owner's effort to keep some US auto history alive is a rare bird indeed. More rare is the chance of locating any other enthusiasts within 100 miles of where I live.... So far, I found some people in Dallas, Tx about 8.5 hours north of here. Did meet a few chaps online a week ago - somewhere in Colorado, great time chatting. and the forums - I usually run with the topics. But thought I might see what's up by region and find a few roadtrip buddies in my near-neck-of-the-woods.
