Extreme Veteran Posts: 306 | Bob, what a great link, thanks for posting. I had alot of fun looking at that gallery and it proves you can always learn something too. Although I like all the FL cars, and have a very soft spot for the '57s, I always seem to be captivated most by the 1960 and 1961 models. And as much as I have looked at and admired the design of the 1960 and 1961 Chryslers the point they make on the site about the grilles was like a bolt of lighting! I can't believe I never noticed that before. (I won't spoil it, go look at the site!) :) Very cool!

The show is in early March each year. I have attended 6 of them (there have been 10) and usually see several Mopars to drool over. Here are some of them I've seen over the years. I also included some other photos of Chrylser concepts taken at Carlisle and from a few other sources. The pictures have the car's names in the file name. Just don't drool on your keyboard... Expert Posts: 2100 Location: Idaho - where men are men and spuds are spuds | WOW! I'd seen a few of these before, but what a line-up! Looks like the Chrysler Ghia, Plymouth Explorer, and Dodge Firearrow would make great candidates for a NEW retro-styled concept. Of course, the Plymouth line is now defunct, but what a way to bring it back. I went to the Int'l Auto Show last week in hopes of getting a glimpse of the 2008 Challenger, but there wasn't one there. Shucks! Thanks for sharing.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 306 | Wow Dan, these are very cool, thanks for going to all that trouble to post these. I think I'd have had a hard time tearing myself away from some of the older ones... the Firearrow, Firebomb, Explorer, and Falcon in particular would have probably made my knees give out. The list of Chrysler showcars I've met is much smaller but it really was a moving experience. At the Chrysler Museum I was able to admire the Thunderbolt, Turbine Car, and Portofino as the rotated majestically on that marvelous two-story carousel in the center. A beautiful metallic blue Ghia Concept was on display on the ground floor as well. And as fun as that was I was able to actually see and hear one of the museums Turbine Cars in motion at the 2005 Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti. I nearly flipped. That's a great place to see some truly gorgeous De Sotos too!

Extreme Veteran Posts: 481 Location: near St Augustine, FL | I read in 'Hemmings Classic Car' (Dec 06 issue) that both Dodge Firearrows will go up on the auction block in Scottsdale this January... Anyone have a couple of million they want to lend me? Also, is it just me or do the headlights of the Firearrow II remind anyone of a recent Ma Chrysler offering?

Veteran Posts: 101 Location: Walhalla, ND | Great photo collection. I've seen many of these cars "real" over the years. Interesting photos of the Belmont. I have a factory b&w photo that shows the car has a clutch and brake pedal - all the literature on the car never gave any indication as to the type of transmission in the car. I know the car's owner, so called her and asked. Its a Hy-Drive--with just a single pedal on the floorboard. Another interesting item is that Mother MoPar always said the car was equipped with a Dodge V8 (after all, Plymouth didn't have a V8 in 1954). Yet after the car came out of long term storage and was restored, it turns out the engine number is P27-1014. P27 being the first '55 Plymouth V8 engine code - so its the 14th V8 engine built by Plymouth! It wasn't a Dodge engine after all but in that era, they couldn't let the competition know that they were going to have a V8 for model year 1955! The Belmont was originally Azure Blue in color but was repainted red during its restoration. Now my question is, where did you find the color photo of the TurboFlite turbine powered concept car? Everything I've been able to find is black & white. There is also a question concerning this car that no one at Chrysler has been able to tell me -- was this a RUNNING car or just a push-mobile show car? No one I've talked to with the turbine program can ever remember seeing this car run or drive? FL's? Anyone got anything to prove one way or another whether this was a running car? And if there are more color photos of the TurboFlite, where do I find them? Interesting photo just came to light this week from an old turbine car engineer. A photo of one of the Ghia cars - a car without a black vinyl top. We know there was at least one of them without the vinyl roof. But the real interesting thing is the interior. The passenger bucket seat is done in white - while the driver seat has white bolsters, etc., but the insert panel is colored! I'm not at liberty to share the photo as its not "my" photo. If any FL's out there have any interesting turbine car photos, let me know! If any of you are interested, there is a great turbine car website at www.turbinecar.com Jim Benjaminson benji@utma.com

Extreme Veteran Posts: 306 | Wow, Jim pretty interesting about the non-vinyl Turbine, I bet that's pretty handsome. I'm curious did the roof just sort of smoothly transition to the body or was there some sort of a trim strip? I know you said you couldn't post the photo but is it online anywhere? I'd love to see it. Edited by 1960 Saratoga 2006-11-19 2:31 PM
