Jim Hoek - 2010-07-06 3:41 PM Wow! To me, that looks like a Custom Royal with a badge on the fuel door, which would have to conclude to a D500. But the engine bay doesn't look like it...

Single 4bbl carb, not dual quads.

Two things to notice in the assembly line pic: note build sheet hanging on inside of hood. Also hood pad, which is almost never seen in restorations.

I bid on this one. But forgot about it and was outbid in the last minute. If someone on the list won this auction, please PM me. I'd like a high-res scan for my literature collection.

Ron

Since nobody's pointed this out, yet, Pete's pic, above, "58plywgncalijpg" was taken at the very
famous intersection of Hollywood Blvd. & Vine St. , in Hollywood, CA.

And, in the above-earlier production line photograph of the 59 Dodges, the Line Supervisor appears to be looking
intently at the subject car's Broadcast Sheet; he doesn't appear to be doing any actual work, at the right front corner
of the car.

Also, all of the cars in the photo, with their hoods' raised, have fiberglass hood insulators installed, which indicates
that those cars also have the Undercoating option on them.

Looks like a run of 4-door sedans was being made at the time the photo was taken.

Definitely the Hollywood and Vine photograph was made in 1960 or 61 as look at the city vehicle making a right turn. That's got to be a 1960 or 61 Studebaker Champ 1/2 ton pick-up.

Chopper John - 2010-06-17 10:02 AM

And these, with the attached story by a 300 Club Int'l member:

Here are 2 photos of my in-laws, John and Martha Pope and daughter Thelma with their original 57C the day they brought it home in Montana.....they had a good year on the ranch as they bought the Chrysler, a Dodge 2 ton truck, a Dodge power wagon, and a 57 Plymouth for the son's high school graduation present. The baby in the photos is my wife Thelma....she is now 47 and we have her dads second 57C that he bought in Kansas in 1964 or so as he just had to have another 300C........I thought you may like to see these photos..........Thanks

Rusty and Thelma Roe in Hermiston, Oregon.

The '57 Plymouth in the last photo has the rare lower bumper bar!

Dunsmuir didn't look much different than that when my Did and I and the family dog went through there in 1966
in our bronze and cream 57 Bel Air wagon. In fact, I think the guy in the Rambler with the surprised look was still
in that same spot !

Holy cow- check the size of the tires on the black 60 Chrysler limo above!

Ian - I guess the tires on the limo are 9.00-15 truck tires. These tires are looking ways bigger than the new 235/75R15 white walls with the wonderful wire wheels on your '60 Saratoga.
Happy motoring!
Dieter

That is the USS Enterprise (Capt Kirk was on shore leave, apparently), docked at Nawfuk, VA, above here.

Never see any modern automobiles towing a camper trailer. Modern manufacturers took away a lot of consumers having a trailer like that. You MUST own a truck for that. Its sad.

Thanks Pete,I'm going to try and put some locations(general) on your cards.I think these 2 are Canadian the first one has a few British American cars in it (Ford Zephyr Mk2,Ford Consul Mk 2 and a Vauxhall Cresta PA series)all common in Canada at the time, but not stateside and the second card I 'm guessing cause it has a Plodge in it.

Three cheers for vedette for starting this thread!

Here are a few found on another forum, sorry for any duplicates.
Pete

Thanks Pete,I'm going to try and put some locations(general) on your cards.I think these 2 are Canadian the first one has a few British American cars in it (Ford Zephyr Mk2,Ford Consul Mk 2 and a Vauxhall Cresta PA series)all common in Canada at the time, but not stateside and the second card I 'm guessing cause it has a Plodge in it.

********************************

Simpson-Sears was the Canadian "version" of Sears & Roebuck, so that shot is clearly taken up north.

Those "indians" in the other shot are Killalot and they ranged north of the Mohawks.

Here's a nice one, I think: Frontier Town's animated Highway Exhibit at MacDonald Pass, Montana

Seems like a Mopar meeting to me! I'd say these are a 1956 Plymouth Savoy, 1958 Plymouth Savoy 4 door Sedan and a 1958 Dodge Coronet

The location can be seen here

WTF is wrong with this world ? Look at that modern photo of the same location and honestly tell
me this is in any way improved over how it was in 1960 !!!!

%$#@! Ugly and devoid of character. Looks like a $#@! freeway through a gravel pit !

I drive that road occasionally and was clueless that it had ever been anything more than another
ugly stretch of road. This kind of homogenous, code-driven, by-the-book, standardized ugliness
speaks volumes about society today. This ain't my Grandfather's America !

At 65-75mph, I don't think that anybody is complaining, as they pass that intersection in comfort and safety
and convenience.
