58 DESOTOS RULE |

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | That's an interesting line up of 1960 cars in the left lane going away from the camera. A 1960 Ford leads the pack. Behind it is a 1960 Pontiac, and bringing up the rear is a 1960 Dodge Dart. It's probably just a coincidence. Location: Parts Unknown | Joe, Why did your R/T get a little clutch ? I thought all 440 apps got the big one (?). My 66 Coronet has the drivetrain out of a 67 R/T and it has the big clutch. I replaced the Inland shifter with a proper Hurst.

Expert Posts: 1287 | Doc -- I dunno! The car had only three or so miles on the clock when I took delivery. It was very stock and with few options radio, heater (we were in Cheyenne, Wyoming!), tinted glass, center console, and power brakes and no power steering even with that big 440 up front. My wife didn't mind that as much as she hated the shifter; her '63 Vette also had a lockout for reverse, but a much shorter throw. I had read that the Hurst on the '63s, '64s, and '65s were not popular among the distaff side and that's why it was replaced and, contrary to other opinions, my wife liked it. That car was unusual also that I will swear to this day that it had some looping exhaust headers that resembled those of a Max Wedge and nothing like any other 440 I have ever seen. While I don't have many pics of that car (in those days, my dad, a ex-Air Corps type, thought it bad luck to take pictures of cars or airplanes -- he was also a bit of a gambler!), but I still remember coming home to Pueblo from Albuquerque and suddenly seeing a great (repeat, "GREAT") cloud of smoke behind me. I thought I might have blown a head gasket (at the minimum), but all it was that a heater hose touched one of those headers and burned through. Not much of a problem except for the fact that even La Veta Pass is COLD in mid-winter , especially with two toddlers in the back seat. Joe PS, It came only with the Dog Dish hubcaps, which I replaced with Baby Moons. I also took the all-chrome (stainless steel?) air cleaner off that Fury and put it on the R/T's 440.

Expert Posts: 1287 | Neil -- More ammunition on my stupidity: it was very cool in those days to have a "rake," which was easy to do with MoPars -- just turn the nuts on the torsion bar setup. This jerk liked the look of a lowered front end but didn't realize the effect on traction (the Ramchargers in Detroit were jacking the front front end then to facilitate weight trtansfer. Joe

Location: Parts Unknown | Joe, My 67 R/T engine has some pretty crazy exhaust manifolds .... they DO hump way up like the Max Wedge jobs did. The "donor" R/T was bought from a little old man and woman who bought it new. She was 88 when she let it go. I had always wanted to get the car to restore, but after she blasted it into a retaining wall at full throttle with a 40' run, a restoration was going to require a whole new body. Putting the R?T go-fast stuff in the 273-powered 66 ragtop was an easy decision. My friend Dave got all the special R/T parts for his R/T. I used the drivetrain, suspension, and brakes. The drivetrain is still very much original.

Expert Posts: 1287 | On page 134 of this thread, the 21st pic from the top shows Bill Goodro (on the left, with the carnation) receiving a "Chrysler Quality Dealer" award. My current Big-Tailed Beast (a Sonoramic Commando equipped '60 Fury 2-dr H/T) was sold to its first owner by Bill Goodro's Plymouth City, 2501 W. Alemeda Ave, Denver 19, Colorado, on February 23, 1960 for $3922.45 (according to the invoice I found in the glove box). The BTB was featured in the October 2014 edition "MOPAR Action" magazine and that pic was part of the article. I just opened this thread up only a few days ago, so it's taking me a while to get through from the beginning.
