Regular Posts: 78 | Frankenstein looks to be Herman Munster from the 60's TV series, "The Munsters". Checked and background matches scene from "Herman, the Tire Kicker" episode. He is looking for a good used car for his niece but gets taken to the cleaners by a dishonest used car salesman.

Expert Posts: 1287 | Hemidave -- The Vette being stopped by the gendarmes reminds me of an incident of when I was in grad school and I was driving home to Pueblo, CO, from Albuquerque, NM. Approaching the Colorado-New Mexico border north of Taos, in the San Luis Valley, the highway is very flat and with just a few curves, most of which are long sweeping ones. It is also an old pickup graveyard (they come there to die) and I came across one going north on this particular curve. The speed limit was 60 at that time and I was hitting about 65-70, but he was plodding along at no more than 50. I looked over the southbound lane and there was nothing coming but there was another pickup parked on the southbound shoulder, so hammered my car ('65 Sport Fury, 426-S, 4-speed) and went around. As I passed the parked truck, I saw a New Mexico state cop behind. The fuzz didn't waste any time, jumped into his car (a '65 Fury I, by the way), and gave chase, flashing his lights. I pulled over (actually thinking he was after someone else) but he pulled in behind me. He started off by saying that he thought I was going pretty fast and had passed a vehicle on a curve while he was investigating an accident. I countered with the truck I had passed being awfully slow, that I had observed the road ahead had no traffic, that there were always vehicles parked on the shoulders thereabouts, that there was no indication of an accident since his warning lights weren't on and I couldn't even see him until I was almost alongside him, and that I was merely exercising common sense in increasing my speed to a rate "reasonable and prudent" to effect a safe pass on an undivided highway. I capped the whole thing off with, "Officer, if I had thought I was doing anything wrong, you never would have caught me!" His reply, "Boy, ain't you never heard of radio?" Joe Godec

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Well, once we crop the Chebby out of the picture, we can see the true car star. Unfortunately the car was too far away from the camera and blowing it up doesn't reveal much. It's a 1957 De Soto that much is clear, but wheather it's an Adventurer or a lesser model I can't say. It looks like it has a convertible top and gold anodized wheel covers, but the color seems wrong for an Adventurer. It looks like muddy brown and white. Pity we can't just go back in time and see for ourselves. (1957 De Soto Reduced.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1957 De Soto Reduced.jpg (65KB - 219 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1287 | Hemidave -- The pic of the bridge above is of the Royal Gorge Bridge just west of Canon City, Colorado, and is 880 feet long and 955 feet above the Arkansas River below. It was not, and still is not considered very legal to fly under it, but I had a cousin that did fly a B-25 Mitchell medium bomber under it in WWII. He said he did it to get an overseas assignment -- and it must have worked since he flew combat missions in North Africa and Italy. Joe

This month's Hemmings Classic Car mag has those Safari wagons, 55 - 59 featured. The 57 and 58s are pretty sweet looking for non-FL cars. ================================ Safaris, as the Nomad equivalent, were made from 55-57. Pontiac kept the name around forever, sticking it on wagons, in general, and ultimately minivans. The Transcontinental was a standard 4 door wagon body, but really glitzed-up with gee-gaw. I think it was a 1957-only offering (?). Not many were made and very few survive. If a Pontiac friend had not owned one, I'd have no idea what they were. Only ever seen one besides his in 40 years of looking.

Location: North Australia | I dig this thread. Two cars above on this page caught my eye. The white 60 Polara 2drht and the white/purple 57 C.R. spring Dodges. Some of the others are great too. Deans before and after Boston (Bawson?) pics are cool, I much prefer the before shots. Steve. Edited by 60 Imp 2016-02-17 7:18 AM

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | The yellow and white car in the top right is a 1957 Ford. And these are all old cars. The red car in the bottom left of the photo is a 1964 Pontiac while the car to the right of the 1956 New Yorker is a 1964 Chevrolet. And the car two over to the right from there is a Corvette.
