Lo and behold...

Thanks Ray (and for the grammar/spelling correction too).

Just a little side note: The folks in the picture that impersonate Harry and Bess actually do this quite often in the area for various functions. "Bess" was the president of the AACA in Kansas City at the time.

I am surprised by the number of cars still sporting their wheel covers and wide whitewalls in that confusing
intersection in Rhode Island.

"I know, most of you never heard of the place. But in the 1950's and '60's, Quincy Automotive was THE place to get speed equipment or to even get your hotrod built. Quincy's was (on Wiltshire Blvd) in Santa Monica, California.
This '32 Roadster is a car built by Bill Cox, owner of Quincy's (his middle name might have been Quincy). Quincy was also the place to go to get your car club plaques made.
Quincy also sponsored many drag race, dry lakes and Bonneville cars. Here's one that I am very familiar with."

"Mickey Brown was the driver of this crank driven blown Olds digger. Mickey died in this car at Lions. The car went off the track right off the starting line (no guard rails in those days) and flipped several times, and Mickey's head came between the ground and the roll bar and that was all she wrote. Very tragic as I was standing next to Mickey's wife on the starting line and had to hold her back. "

Tragic.

Kinda makes me sick to see all those cars stacked up in the bone yard. Look at all the good parts that more than likely just got wasted - bumpers, grilles, fenders, light assemblies, glass, etc, etc, etc. Bummer!

Based on Grandpa's silk-look rayon-striped shirt, I am guessing 1956/57 and the car as a 1957 Dodge. (I remember those shirts, during the early years of Elvis)

That's an odd one. Someone ordered a 2-tone car but used only one color, black on black. And then coupled it with whitewall tires.

Or did they get it some 'in fashion' colour of the late fifties and tire of it like everyone else?

Or even get home and get told by the missus, "You paint that black or else!"?

It looks to me like the main body color is dark blue, with the color sweep being black. I can definitely see a difference on my monitor.

Could be midnight blue body with raven black sweep.

For a SUPERman, I observe (without staring), that he hasn't got much "junk" in his trunks. Poor Lois. She must be disappointed.

The 55 Dodge Wagon must be one of the Nascar wagons, like this one, previously discussed:

LOL. I was just thinking that "Custom" = uglifying, thinking that they (the perpetrators of the customization) are better designers than the factory design team. Maybe but certainly not in this case. The bumper and grill are too Soviet Union for me and the headlights, well, they are just ugly.

Wow, you got that right ! It would be a hard nut to crack to
improve the 58 Plymouth design in any way at all. That attempt
is everything you say ... Soviet level creative and pure ugly.

Wow.

Back in my college days, friends and I haunted record stores in
the University District. At some point our conversation turned to
why the employees at these shops, with such great music all around
them, CHOSE to play albums of chimpazees beating on car hoods
or children being tortured while another kid makes random noise
on a flute ? So, next time in town, we asked the various employees ....

The unanimous answer was boredom. They had heard it all and
preferred listening to bending metal and fingernails on a chalkboard
than one more spin of Freebird.

I suspect it was something similar with many car customizers ... do
something different, just to be different. Good results or bad, At least
it is different.

With regard to the headlight treatment...

In that era there were several Formula 1 cars out of Italy with similar treatment to their noses. This followed through to 1962, Ferrari being
notable with both their F1 cars and their Le Mans cars being made that way. But I think there was a Maserati used it first.
