Not even real police cars.... ============================= Very special 300D there. One seater, open car. Maybe Bill can tell us more about the background on this one ? I had no idea 300D's were built in this configuration. I DO see a regular old police car at left. 59 Ford.

California in the good old times...How a beautiful state like this changed so much that native people are leaving? ============================== That photo is cropped, removing a single headlight 57 Imperial. If you search this album, you can find the larger photo. As for the state of the State, put too many animals in a small cage and soon it is a cage full of crap. Same principle. Add in the libtard politics and, well .... we all know what California is like these days.

Expert Posts: 3887 Location: Northen Virginia | Doc I never saw this pic before, but they are many pictures they will be repeated. Even me sometimes didn't visit this thread for weeks. People are pouring out of CA for the reasons that you are mentioning, their actual views of the country differ so much from the 40's 50's 60's that they sound from another planet. This is evident when you hear the CA "representatives" opinions on TV. Yes Dave, sorry I'm blind or Fl cars prior to 57, I consider 57-61 the true Exner design revolution. 56 Cars looks like 55-54 and of that era I know absolutely nothing about it. Actually, I have to look at the emblems to identify the make, so sorry if I keep missing them. Edited by hemidenis 2018-02-18 1:40 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9900 Location: Lower Mainland BC | hemidenis - 2018-02-18 1:09 PM yes Dave, I'm blind or Fl cars prior to 57, I consider 57-61 the true Exner design revolution. 56 Cars looks like 55-54, 57 cars looks like nothing else before. Geez, I read the book and I was pretty sure that Virgil Exner has his hand in the design of the 55 and 56 Chryslers, as part of the "Million Dollar" look, that moved the company away from the 48-54 designs and towards "Suddenly it's 1960" Maybe the owners of this forum would like to rethink its scope then. Maybe it should just be for Torsion-Aire cars from 57 to 61. King pin cars not allowed or recognized. ? Edited by 56D500boy 2018-02-18 1:37 PM

Expert Posts: 3887 Location: Northen Virginia | Is not that Dave, you don't have to be a design specialist to identify the difference between the 57 Chubby and the 59. 55-56 Plymouth are in a different design style, more than in a transition form 54 prior. Remember that the 56 model was probably draw back in 1954. I know for a fact that the 57 Imperial was first draw back in 1955, a year before your car went in to production. Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | The 1955 and 1956 bodies were based on the 1949-54 bodies while the 1957 bodies were completely new. Which is why the 1955-56 bodies were higher than the 1957 and there was little visual connection between the 1955-56 models and 1957. The 1955-56 models were the last of the Keller cars. Chrysler management agreed on May 15, 1952 that the 1955 models would have "new" bodies, which is to say, the 1955 bodies would receive a major restyling but would still use floor, cowl and other structural members from 1954. Chrysler stylists had been working on giving the 1954 body a facelift but with GM and Ford giving their 1949-based bodies a major workover for 1955, facelifts would not do. And the new 1955 models had to be ready for production by the summer of 1954. Chrysler management also approved a new V8 engine for the 1955 Plymouth on May 15, 1952. The new V8 would not be ready until the 1956 model year (the A block poly, built by Plymouth at the Mound Road engine plant north of Detroit). For 1955 Plymouth would use Dodge engines with poly heads. Chrysler was under pressure to produce cars and engines that at least were equal to the competition. The 1949-54 styling along with the lack of an automatic transmission cost Chrysler Corporation its #2 position in 1952 and Plymouth lost the #3 spot in 1954, falling to #5. If Chrysler did not come up with something competitive, it was felt Chrysler could end up fighting with Studebaker to be #3 in North America. New 1955 DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial designs were approved by the end of November, 1952 The final Plymouth and Dodge mock ups were not approved by management until May, 1953. Chrysler assembly plants shut down on August 13, 1954 and the first 1955 Plymouth rolled off the line on September 17, 1954. Exner wanted brand new bodies for 1955 but styling and engineering would have had two years to design, approve and tool a completely new body. Not enough time, as would Chrysler prove with the 1957 bodies.
