Yes Joe, I notice the badge! I always thought this would have been a nicer place for the 1960 scare emblem. The 60 Furys side is already pretty busy, so I put one GC badge on mine on the deck lid too, and that way the competition can look at it a lot better and longer

As you might know, I own a similar 61 with a GC, but not as nice. Bare-bones car with manual steering and only options a GC and Torqueflite. I really love the dash pic^, is looks kinda mythical!

As for the emblem placement on your BTB, I do believe these were prepped by a special team from the factory with all the components. Look at the inner fender cutouts, they do not appear to be OE/factory either.

Does anybody repop the GCP emblem? I heard that there was a sonoramic repop, but I have only been able to find these https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Plymouth-Sonoramic-D500-Fury-Polara-Be...

These lack the car-show "in-factor" and exclusiveness of the Sonoramics and D500s so I do not believe they are reproduced.

The BTB doesn't have the removable fender well access panels as it not only is an early production car, but may well have been a factory mule when it came down the line at the St. Louis plant. In addition to not having the panels and the weird emblem placement, it also has the early threaded ball-and-socket carb linkage rather than the later slotted rods. But the production records show it really was a ram car at the start even if it is an anomaly which I think makes it all the more interesting.
Joe
PS, The second photo from the top looks like Colorado, perhaps Silverton

Joe, yes, early production ram cars didn't have the access panels, but I tought it was only your original (1rst) BTB that didn't have them?

The 1rst and 2nd photo were taken in Colorado. The 1rst is Loveland pass.

The house at the top of the street identifies it as Silverton, but it's not the main street.

Look at the tire tread of the www tires of the Chevy. Am I seeing vent holes in full wheel covers? Never seen that before in the 50s. Are that 57 Chevy wheelcovers?

Pretty sure the car in the background is a 57 Plymouth and the picture was taken in Anchorage Ak. Alaska was made a state in 1959.

Yes, the wheel covers are for a 1957 Chevrolet - a one year only option. Those "holes" are not holes but phoney holes (with bottoms) and the insides painted black. 1956 Chevrolets had a similar wheelcover with phoney holes but the centre of the cover was different.

The lumpy tread on the rear tires looks like snow tires, given this is Alaska.

I bought this out of France on eBay. A4 glossy photo print.

From the back of the photo below:

"June 1956:

Aspects of life in Southern California, including cars at drive-in restaurant(s), drive-in laundromat(s), drive-up bank(s), shopping center(s), visiting Disneyland.
In a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal convertible in the very mid-Fifties color scheme of coral and black.

Maurice Terrel for the LOOK magazine assignment "Los Angeles: The Art of Living Bumper-to-Bumper"

The Kodachrome experience"

If anybody wants a better image, I've scanned it at 11Mb and, if I reduce it a bit (to < 10 Mb), I could email it to you.

That's really cool. Any idea which Bob's Big Boy that is? Might be the current Lucky Boy in Pasadena but too hard to tell because of all the changes it has gone through. It's definitely Southern California as I don't think that looks like Phoenix. Unfortunately, there are only 2 of them left that are old drive-ins in California and one of them was converted from Johnie's Broiler. The other 3 are newer constructions.

That Pantorium Cleaners is still there and still has the unusually shaped drive through. Pretty cool. The original sign is much better looking than its replacement...

This is December, 1979. I'm with the 60 Polara, friend Barry with the 60 DeSoto and friend Keith with the 63 New Yorker. THe Polara is the only one of the three still in existence and it's still in great shape.

Barry sold the DeSoto around 1986 to someone who wanted a collector car. The idiot drove it a bit, then parked it under a tree and left it to rot.
The New Yorker went to Alberta with Keith and from there I think it eventually got scrapped....... It was loaded even had A/C.

Got the magazine today. Extremely disappointed. Only two small photos in the article. Neither of which lets the uninformed know what the car in question is. Only consolation was an oil advert on page 95 that featured a 56 Dodge.

That is Jasper Avenue in Edmonton. I used to live there and take those wicked accelerating electric trolley buses to work from Jasper and 124th to Jasper and 100th across from the Hotel McDonald. My wife (at the time) worked as an illustrator in the advertising department at Hudson Bay store (the one on the corner opposite People's Credit Jeweller's). Cold city in the winter with lots of snow. Long summer nights if you could handle the mosquitoes.

I think it's a New Yorker due to the fender ornaments.

Thank you Wiz. Yes, it screams early 60s! The behieve Lady with sun glasses, the V-shaped roof of the building, those cars... wish I could jump in there. Now that you mention the NY script, I see it too, didn't before. Could almost be a convertible, at least it seems so.

Found this interesting photo on a FB post:

"Parking lot scene # 2, in Banff, Canada....Family vacation in 1958 or 1959."

Why is that interesting? Because my own 1957 Plymouth Suburban 2dr wagon was:
- originally sold new in the PNW
- painted Marine Blue poly with Sand Dune White roof
- optioned with door & quarter panel trim spears
- had the standard "dog dish" hubcaps

What are the odds this is an old picture of my car? I guess we'll never know! But I like to think it might be.

That is exciting! Nice work documenting it here for us nutjobs. I found a pic of a white 60 Imperial on this thread near SF (where my car came from) and wondered......
The shot was front on coming up the freeway, and i havent found it again
Sid and all, thanks for keeping this thread going, my favorite still. Steve.

Thanks! Yes, in this thread there are 2 pictures that could show my ex seafoam 60 Adventurer in Florida (really not unlikely, same area,
same body style and color) and one that shows a beige or white 60 Fury coupe only a couple of miles from where my 60 spend its days of youth.
Unfortunately the "search function" here makes it impossible to find it again, at least I couldn't find out how. If you search for the right words
it tells you the message is in the postcard thread..... that contains 300+ pages!

It would be very useful if the posts included a list of the FL cars in each photo, by year - make - body style - color, and any other details like location.

If an administrator wanted to spend the next 10 years editing all the posts, that would be great!

And then? Like I said in the post above yours, it doesn't help. If you use the search function it tells you the message (pic)
you are looking for is in the 300+ page postcard thread. Big help!

Correct me if I'm wrong and show me how, I'm not good with this.

Red wasn't a popular color in the 50s for american cars.

Photo is the parking lot at Disneyland (the original).

Red = Communist!!!

(Not a good thing to be in the US in the 1950's)

The Hemmings pictures are fun. You can zoom in, sometimes really close.

https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2017/08/01/san-francisco-1964/?refer=n...

Look at the parking lot in the background, I could spend the rest of my life there.
