The Firedome Convertible showed on the picture above, not a Fireflite – there is no front fender upper ornaments like on the picture below…
1951-52 Chrysler Imperial Convertible on the back ground; 1953 Imperials haven’t two-piece windshield…

Yep, but I don't think it is the boat.

Love the colors on this 56 Belvedere and would drive it that way.
Kinda neat, obviously a run down car in the mid 60s when finned cars were considered garbage.
Yet this man proudly poses in front of it. I like that.

What is that under the rear bumper of the Imperial? Or am I seeing things?

What is that under the rear bumper of the Imperial? Or am I seeing things?


1957-59 Imperials had a rear valance under the rear bumper to block the view of mechanicals like the exhaust, gas tank and springs. They don't all seem to have them now so I don't know if people removed them or if not all cars got them.

Excactly. Just as Samson (who worked under Exner during that period) said and it was the Chrysler brass that gave the main styling direction.
Without Ex, we probably would have even "googier" looking cars and reportedly, Ex had nothing to do with the design of the 60/61 Mopars,
except the 60 Valiant, which was the only model he designed all by himself and that is THE ugliest American car of the 40s, 50s and 60s.

According to pg. 132 in Jon G. Robinson's book the "Standard Catalog of 1950s Chrysler", the 1956 Dodges were introduced to the public on October 7th, 1955. 
Which makes the promotional postcard (probably sent by salesmen to previous Dodge customers) very "cute" as it is dated October 8th, 1955 (the day after the cars intro) and is purportedly
from a Dodge factory worker who just wants to share the joy of what he and his family saw (presumably on the 7th). 
Obviously, all BS but still a good adman's fantasy ....
