Location: Parts Unknown | Adriana, In the above black and white snapshots, .... namely the P-X, Wigwam Stores, and McDonald Real Estate photos ... Where did these come from ? The P-X looks to be taken at the corner of Main St. and NE 108th in Bellevue, Washington. The church in the far left background is a dead giveaway. The Wigwam store looks to be at Eastgate Center, up along what was old US 10. The McDonald Real Estate looks extremely familiar, but I cannot place it. By chance did you get these three from the Seattle area ???

I do not have the originals, I found the images on the internet... adriana :) ************************************************************** Wow ! What are the chances ? In 1966 my family moved from S.F. to Bellevue, Washington. The P-X store with the Norge cleaners stood at the corner of Main and 108th. There was a Chevron gas station on the actual corner (off the right of the Norge sign). You are looking almost due south and Main St. is just out of sight as the parking lot curves down over the slight incline. It would run left-to-right on the far side of the church. 108th is out of sight to the right. If you went west (right) on Main down to 104th, and turned right, halfway up the block you'd find B.C. Hawk Dodge, where I cut my teeth watching the new 1966 Dodge Coronets being unloaded. Back up on 108th and eight blocks behind the camera, Metke Ford kept my best friend mesmerized with their assortment of Shelbys on display. Mom would occasionally shop at the P-X store when we were downtown. Eastgate was closer to home. Wigwam stood next to Fisher Drugs, which stood next to Safeway. It was classic 50's strip mall / "shopping center" architecture, with an indoor breezeway / walk-through from store-to-store. Dairy Queen stood behind the camera. And that 57 Chev wagon is the exact car we were driving back then, .... copper and cream too ! I wish I could place the McDonald Real Estate Office, but it definitely rings a bell from the murky mists of my lost childhood. Wow !

Veteran Posts: 119 | "How does a DKW come to be so prominent in a random postcard photo in the US?" Just lucky, I guess; right place, right time. Riverside Plaza is probably Riverside, CA, and the imports were popular on the coasts at the time, close to where they came in to the country. On January 1, 1957, there were 87 DKW franchisees in the US, and 115 one year later, according to the 1958 "Automotive News Almanac." Here are the import numbers for several years, from the AN '63 Almanac... TG (Imports as of 1963Xx.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Imports as of 1963Xx.jpg (201KB - 248 downloads)
