Someone at GM had a sip of Exner's secret brew when they dreamed up the 59 Buick. It deserves
at least an "honorary mention".

The '59 Booick is quite the stylish ride if no Mopar is available, although I'm not to crazy about the starter button under the gas pedal.

Thanks Adriana for all those Holiday Inn cards. I recall those huge neon signs almost everywhere when I was a youngun.

Here are two photos from a collection, the first marked Hollywood and Vine.
The second is labelled San Francisco street view.

I'll beat Doc to the punch on this one. Yes, indeed, it is the front fender of a '59 Buick Electra 225. Wish we could see more of the car!

The 58 Fireflite looks to have a 4HT rear roof pillar. If this were a convertible, I would be putting
good money on this being MY car. Same exact Spring Special colors, my car sold new in Syracuse,
and given they only made 474 of them .... but alas, it most certainly does not have a canvas top.
For a brief moment I thought this thread had hit the Holy Grail for me and produced an early photo
of my car ! How cool would that be ?!!!

Here's another postcard, I just can't wait with to share.
And hey, I'll take a chance with this one, I'll make it a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere, there in the distance. It might even be a Convertible, because of the roof (rag top), which looks to be black.
But for now, I'll make it a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe, at the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah-Nevada
And when you get to the postcard webpage (by clicking on the image), be sure to scroll down, for a 'surprise'.

Terrific surprise! Those shoes are outta sight!

Nice photos, Jim!

Here are two more additions, the first maybe a repost, however the '58 is a twin to mine, so I'll post her again.
The second photo is labelled Yosemite National Park.

Nothing wrong with (y)our eyes, it's just to small and blurred to really make out...

Here's another one hard to identify, because of the low printing quality, but I think it's a 1957 Dodge Sierra.
Maybe not worth while, but I like it because of it's location. Seems like tough times in a tough town!
And there's no Street View there.

vedette - 2010-12-31 2:50 AM this has to be one of the rarest FL cars ever, a one year only export model 1959 Dodge Kingsway Lancer (based on the Sport Fury) alongside another mid '50s Thunderbird and a '57 DeSoto in the South of France.

From a Dutch brochure (learn some Dutch  ).

Last week I picked up a child's wooden wagon being thrown away. Beside the wagon where 4 trash bags that I took home too. I got a lot of Christmas ornaments but 1 bag had a least 300-400 post cars from there vacations in the early 60's. I have gone through some of them and I've found 6 cards with FL cars in them.

The things that people put out for 'hard rubbish' is just amazing! I'm always amazed at the things I drag home... But something like the postcards, it makes you sad that they didn't have any family to give them to or who would want them... But at least they were found by the right person and not lost forever...

Going with the lower rear quarter trim running all the way to the rear light, I'd say this is a 1957 Dodge.
Although the color scheme and 'something' like the "Dodge" script on the left side of the trunk might suggest 1958
How about the plymouth hub caps? They seem to be on the other, older car too

IIRC, I have shown this postcard here before, but what makes me do it again is that this one has all of both cars in its image,
as opposed to the prior one, which has a frame around it that cuts the cars.

Again, IIRC I have seen one of the following postcards here...

Two postcards both showing the same 1960 Plymouth Station Wagon,
topped of with a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal at the Holiday Motel
and a 1960 Dodge Dart Seneca at the Grill.
The "Greetings from Holiday ..." banners are removed from the postcards scannned images
to make them look more as a photo and have them placed on Google Earth & Maps.

1957 Imperial Crown Southampton at Round-Up Drive-In in Las Vegas, Nevada

This Drive-In has been shown here before, but this is another postcard of that very same Drive-In.
Maybe the owner wanted a new postcard because they repainted in another color?
What makes them another 'double feature' (like the above 1961 Chrysler) is they both feature that very same Imperial.

D500Jim,

Maybe the addition of the all-weather awning spanning the Round Up's
perimeter was something the owner wanted to crow about. The color
change may have included interior renovations, too, who knows.
Pretty cool about the Imperial being in both.

I really enjoy your postcards, seeing all manner of series and models
(base 2dr posts, wagons, Imperials, etc.) in their contemporary settings.
With whitewalls, without, clean or not so clean; it's like a lesson in
Mid-Century socio-economics.

Thanks,
TG

Thanks,
TG

*****************************************************

Aren't there THREE postcards of the Round Up, with all THREE showing
the same pink Imperial ?

I see all these cars of ours through the prism of how they were when I was
a kid. This is how the world looked to me when I was a little snot-nosed booger-
eater ! These postcards are like a refresher course on my early years ! And yes,
there is SO MUCH more going on in these shots than just cars. They really tell a
story about what was going on, if you really study them. Life was NOT all about
sock hops and Elvis !
This thread is truly my favorite of anything posted here. Thanks to all who post.
It makes my day every time there is another view to pour over.

That would be even more amazing. Imagine having that very same model car and color, and having enlargements of all three postcards matted and framed on your garage wall...

I'll put the Round-up back in my searches!

I suspect that Imperial might belong to the owner of the Round Up (?)

It being pink, probably his wife/girlfriend! Or a female owner.

Pink was a lot more universally accepted as a fashionable color of either sex back then. Lots of pink and pastel colored
houses, appliances, cars, you name it.

The dealership building in Great Neck, NY, is still standing at the corner of Aster Lane and Northern Boulevard... but selling Mazda now.

Honorary mention: 60 Ford (Ford's closest thing to a Forward Look design)

Any guess as to what the gold car is on the next block (on the left) with the very
straight bumpers ???? 59 Chev?? Looks much newer than anything else in the photo.

The 50 Ford Crestliner behind the 56 Chev is a seldom seen car.

Great shot, Jim.

D500Jim,

Talk about some "Memories on Main." As I was going thru your Panoramio pics page by page,
near the end was this PC of L'Anse, MI, a small town at the base of Keweenaw Bay in Michigan's
Upper Peninsula. My Great-uncle Bill owned an auto parts store there from after WWII to the late-70's,
and I still have plenty of relatives in the area. We went there on every trip to the UP as I was growing
up in the '60's-'70's, as there wasn't much else to do after going to the 5&10 Ben Franklin store.

About 20 years ago, I found his store's sign leaning against one of his storage buildings, and asked if I
could have it to hang in my garage, to which he consented. Uncle Bill was, um, frugal, and since his
store was near the end of Main Street, he only had neon on the "city side," as there wasn't much
traffic on the bay side. His sign below hung about 3-4 signs past the L'Anse Drugs sign (on the right);
I learned to love chocolate malts at that drug store.

To say your PC brought back a flood of fond, indelible memories is putting it mildly. Uncle Bill
passed away last summer at age 94, so now I have his sign and the context in which it belongs,
and I'll be hunting down my own PC for my small collection.

Again, thanks to you and to everyone else who post these incredible images, and I hope we
will all be able to find personal connections to them as I did today.
WOW!

TG

Ps. The sign needs a repaint and new neon, as it hangs now with the "bay side" out.

Your chance maybe right, but my eyes are no judge! Too small for me!
Terrific surprise! Those shoes are outta sight!

Nice photos, Jim!

Here are two more additions, the first maybe a repost, however the '58 is a twin to mine, so I'll post her again.
The second photo is labelled Yosemite National Park.
