Kenny,

You know the Watts line was the only place the California CD 201's were ever found ? I believe less than 20 were ever recovered.

I didn't know that, Doc.

But I do know the Watts "line" was simply a short run of the original L.A.-Long Beach main line. So it was possible California CD 201 usage extended all the way to Long Beach and perhaps to San Pedro or even Santa Anna.

Where have all the 61 Fords gone ? As Fords go, they were pretty decent looking. Judging by photographs, they sold
pretty well. Where did they all go ?

And these, with the attached story by a 300 Club Int'l member:

Here are 2 photos of my in-laws, John and Martha Pope and daughter Thelma with their original 57C the day they brought it home in Montana.....they had a good year on the ranch as they bought the Chrysler, a Dodge 2 ton truck, a Dodge power wagon, and a 57 Plymouth for the son's high school graduation present. The baby in the photos is my wife Thelma....she is now 47 and we have her dads second 57C that he bought in Kansas in 1964 or so as he just had to have another 300C........I thought you may like to see these photos..........Thanks

And a nice pic and story about a 300-G at Watkins Glen:

revised 01/08/04
+++++++++++
I received this picture with the email below from Mark Steigerwald, curator of the museum at Watkins Glen Raceway. If anyone has additional information on this car, please email Bob Merritt at bob@simplexco.com
+++++++++++

From: Mark
mark@racingarchives.org
To: bob@simplexco.com
Subject: 300G photo

Hi Bob,

I stumbled upon this photo. Apparently there was a "G" as a pace car here throughout 1961.
I wonder if this G is among the surviving cars?
Our historian informs me that a Dr. Ward, owner of several letter cars, had a role in safety at Watkins Glen. The "G" pictured is one of his cars. Apparently his cars (or at least this "G") were pressed into service as course marshall vehicles! Though I can't say for certain, this practice probably came to end when the Ford "Total Performance" push came to fruition in 1963 and Watkins Glen became a Ford track. We have a photo of a row of '63 Galaxie convertibles that handled all sorts of duties during that year's racing events.
Also, for all general Chrysler enthusiasts, we'll be featuring a Cunningham C4R here next year as our premier display car. Something to consider when taking the odd road trip.
Cheers.

It's a 58; I've suggested to Jim that he start a unique thread to showcase and honor this commercial photographer's
work, which high-lighted his car, as seen in the relatively many PC's which have been posted on this thread's many
pages, and which are continuing to be discovered.

So far, he's remained Mr. Anonymous.

M.M. 's photos must have been taken very shortly before her death.

Wonder if she needed any help getting into or out of that car?

The famous photographer's 1958 DeSoto Fireflite, at Arcadia Lodge in in Kingman, AZ

*****************************************

This car has been called a "Fireflite" and a convertible. It is neither. It is a Firedome, note the low backglass, the sidetrim
stopping at the rear edge of the front wheel well, and the lack of the fender "dot" on that sidetrim. I won't bother explaining
how to tell a convertible from a hardtop !

Today, I received the postcard with the photographer's DeSoto on it, as shown above.
I scanned it and it can be found on Panoramio, here: www.panoramio.com/photo/37066608
Besides the photographer's 1958 DeSoto Firedome Sportsman, I believe the other one is a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Too bad the photographer's name is not on the postcard.

But Monsieur, you have neglected one in this frame!

As we see the front of a '59 Chevrolet protruding there, that means this was taken after Chrysler became owners of SIMCA, and that's an Aronde or Elyse parked near the Chevy!

By the way, that building is still standing, although it's no longer a Chevrolet dealership.

There weren't many F/L's in our family, but this '56 New Yoker belonged to my Uncle Warren,
shown leaving MD for sunny San Diego; he was a warrant officer in the Navy.
Shades of Lucy & Desi in the Long, Long Trailer.

The tyke on the trike is yours truly, circa 1962, lost in th 'Burbs. I have no idea where,
as we were visiting someone, but it's likely Michigan...

Wow, this thread is FANTASTIC. I'm surprised it is not a sticky thread. This should be edited and printed for history classes.
I just spent 3 hours looking at every pictures and postcards!!!

I'll try to contribute as much as I can.

Tom, I grew up in Toledo, and didn't know that MI had crowed tiny suburban developments that resembled Levitown-type
communities!

Also, the length of the Crusader's quarter panel accent-crease really shows-up its overall length, as was discussed
recently on a car that was for sale on our "Craigslist" message board.

Highball, I particularly like the 'suburbs' pic, the wide variety of cars parked in the street and in the driveways, and the fact that there's not just one Forward Look car among them...

Keep them coming, please!

Post a few, Adriana, let us see if it looks to be one car...

Better, scan them in hi-res and see if the numberplate can be semi-identified.

Wow! To me, that looks like a Custom Royal with a badge on the fuel door, which would have to conclude to a D500. But the engine bay doesn't look like it...

All the buildings in right side of the pic are gone, the Orpheum theater still there, like most of the left side buildings.

I've been watching that 59 assembly line auction.

That is probably a D500 emblem; the car would be a Single-4 model.

Note the differing locations for the Broadcast Sheets, attached to the hood-undersides.

Also note (Mike S.), the color of the OEM wheels.
