It was a great day In Iowa. We started by leaving Friday afternoon. Went 200 miles due North to town where fellow FL member JW Duhn ( I GOT FINS ) lives and has his repair business. It was after 5:00PM and with cold beer in hand, I got a tour of his shop. His unique 57 Ply. project is in there- this car has some very good planning and craftsmanship. What a host JW and Judi are! They invited us over for some great T bones on the BBQ. Later we went the 25 miles to Spencer, Ia. where we had motel reservations. Saturday morning we found that there was a fellow WPC Omaha chapter club member stayed at the same motel--visited with them and headed out to the sale. After several days of rain and cold weather, it was a warm and sunny day for the sale. The auction company had to move the location because of all the mud , and had a large tent set up to run the cars through as they appeared on the auction block. But there were so many people there that they decided to sell the cars as they were lined up outside. Jw and I talked to Lee (roadkill one the web)and Dan ( 60 Finatic)another FL member all the way from Florida. Turns out- Dan lives just 25 minutes from my Uncle. Don't know if there were any other FL members there. Oh yes , a new FL member that we met down at Tulsa- I forget the name right now, but he has ties to my neighborhood. My wife got a kick out of ( and pictures) of the TV reporter gal with the 57 four door hardtop. Lee posted her link in another thread. It was pretty funny what you don't see in the video! More on that later.
It was a day that will not be repeatd--especially in rural Iowa! Like Lee said--It's kind of a feeling of loss. After him knowing about these cars for many years, they are now just a memory.............................MO

Lee- my wife was observing that reporter chick, I will ask her if she heard the D-A questions. It was her actions that wifey was laughing about. will posyt some pictures later-----
Freddy, No Cooddyton or Duane in sight or Jay Leno or Dennis Gage that I know of. There was a guy in the ambulance after the sale that did resemble Jay from the side but he didn't have the JAW. As for Coddy's pal Duane--he didn't dare show up--JW and I would have introduced him to a good ole IOWA HOG waller!...........................MO

Got back to Florida Sunday evening. Was real nice putting names to faces; glad to meet Steve & JW. Was also good to see Lee, Tim & several other National DeSoto Club members. Lee did a heck of a job making sure things went well. The auction folks had a listing of all cars for sale with realistic condition ratings. That didn't stop some folks from bidding way beyond what some cars were worth.

While they were trying to jump off the 36 Airflow, the jumper battery blew up. One piece had to go at least 20-25 feet in the air. I guess one person got sprayed with battery acid but was okay....

In any event, attached below are some pictures before the actaul auction started. Ironically, there was a salvage yard adjacent to the lot where the auction took place.

In "Adventures" the National De Soto Club newsletter, the editor posed a question about where these cars are now.

Did anyone from the Fowardlook site buy one?
