What a fine building you all have done.
Course was one of the models also in the past have any left, and painted motives paint yourself.
And 300C and Impala 62 and I did my daughters a few years ago. (It would be glitter interior and paint)
Will be buying any more in the future.

There is a 57 Dodge in a series called M-2 Machines. They are about 1/64 scale. You find them on Ebay all the time for under $10.

A company called Round 2 Models is re-issuing the Christine diecast with the working lights but they are going into more details like the correct interior, they are also selling them higher than the original price and lower then the ones people see on Ebay now.

I haven't built anything lately but picked up a Danbury Mint 56 DeSoto. They also have this one in the Adventurer in black/gold.

I also found out a few days ago from Rick Hanmore who's in charge of new Danbury Mint car diecast projects that the 57 Imperial project they had been working on has been cancelled. Rick said " I am sorry to report that the factory that was developing that model, (and many of our other projects ), has been closed by the Chinese gov't, an issue that has to do with rising labor rates in that country. We have lost a lot of our tooling for die cast cars because of this. We are still working on a few projects, but all of the new cars that were in development are no longer available to us. I am as disappointed as you that the Imperial model has been, (at least for now), cancelled. It was one of my pet projects."

This is a cool thread! I'm 42 now,I still have most of the models that I built in the late 70's and 80's many are Jo-Han Mopars, Used to sit in my room and listen to Doo Wop and Jazz (Philly radio stations etc) Now my two children love to listen to the same music and build models, funny how strong the genes are LOL.

I've been building model kits since I was 5.

Here's a '58 Fury I custom built for John (BigM). Started out as an AMT Belvedere kit.

It did actually start out as a nice Fury...but then the car got parked!

I'm currently working on a replica of the Saratoga, but the model itself is a New Yorker, a vintage JoHan issue with new grille and bumper assemblies from Modelhaus. The chassis is incorrect, it shows a full frame instead of unibody. I'm waiting on a set of wire wheels with whitewall tires to come. I'm using actual left over paint from the car. The model doesn't have the bird-bath deck lid either.

Since there are 2 threads on models, and I started my models in this thread, I'll finish this one here too.

I bought this on Ebay before Christmas, it's an old JoHan kit that didn't get built, so I've been working on it off and on since then to somewhat match my Saratoga ( Stella) . The paint is actual paint left over from my car. I sprayed the model, then wet-sanded it with K&S Sanding Film from the hobby shop, then cut polished it with Novus fine scratch remover. The wheels are Danbury-Mint issue reproductions of Chrysler wires. They didn't come with the kit. This is my second attempt with Bare Metal Foil, and I have to say that I am not great at applying it, ( eyesight and steadiness of hands :stressed:?) and if I ever build another model, ( likely not ) I'll go back to silver paint for the trim. I used silver paint on some of the finer items on this. This model didn't come with an opening hood and engine. The other thing is that this is a New Yorker, my own car is a Saratoga - so this doesn't have the side color sweep like my car - Nor does it have the toilet seat deck lid, which was optional on all models.

Is it just me, or does the NY'er model look to be about a foot too short (proportionately) ?

The rear clip seems noticeably "stubby".

Did those wires come with the model ?

Brent, the car is actually ( proportionally), 4 inches too short - on the front end - not the rear. The mold was made, I believe, from the same basic mold that JoHan did the 1960 Adventurer from. The REAL Adventurer and the New Yorker are on different wheelbases, ADV is 122, NYER is 126. I happen to have the 1960 Adventurer JoHan model right here to compare with, and there's no difference in the distance from the front door to the front fender opening on the 2 models, or the overall length, for that matter. The New Yorker should have the extra four inches in that area ahead of the front door.

The wire wheels are from Danbury Mint, and are for a 1/24th scale model not a 1/25th scale so they are a tiny bit too big .....

The rear clip seems to be in proportion, at least to me. Maybe it's the photo. In reality, if you look at the real car, you can actually see that it is a "long hood-short deck".... hard to believe - but the fins give it the illusion / appearance of length at the rear.

I just measured up the hood and decklid on my Saratoga. The hood is 60 inches from the windshield to the front edge. The deck lid is only 48 inches from the back window to the outer edge of the lid. So I re-iterate, the fins give it the illusion / appearance of length at the rear.

1:43 scale (approx. Lionel O Scale).  $277.35 delivered

You would think I would be the perfect target customer, but I can't justify it!

For that price, I don't like the '57 hood badge on the front or the Adventurer interior!  I bet I know what car they modeled it on.
