How often do you drive your Forward Look cars?  Since mine is still not finished..I drive it around the yard mostly and up the street on occasion. How about some pics of your cars where they are sitting today, tomorrow or whenever you read this.

Very nice garage set up, my cars are in cold storage at my shop about 10 miles away, won't be out till mid or early May, I drove them to many venues last year from June to September, the weather here is all done in October, snow can be on the ground as late as Early May. On the road at least once every week.

Every day for the '57 Dodge. The Plymouth gets driven about once a week. These are the only cars we have except for the '74 Dodge truck, and that gets driven several times a week. It just plain out uses too much gas. The '57 has been the most economical choice to drive as she has been averaging 18 mpg with the 325-2bbl and powerflite. I'm really pleased at how good this car is after sitting dormant for years and suddenly put back into daily service.

It is 25 degrees out right now, and snowing. The Coronet convertible will probably see a couple trips out onto the freeway this winter just to keep it exercised. The 4-speed and rear end swap done this spring / summer kept me from driving it much at all this year. Both the Coronet sedan and Sierra wagon are drained and mothballed for wrenching next spring. The DeSoto, while it would run, is too far apart to drive.

Anytime I get the chance. I drove her about 100 miles today up to look at Nathan's 60 New Yorker and 59 Dodge to give him an estimate. I would rather drive my Christine as any car I have or have had. Since I got her in 3/06 Restoration took about 7 months and as of today I have driven her about 5900 miles.

I average over 2000 miles per year for my 300, in fact have put 56,000 miles on it in the 25 years I've owned it. I took it out today, it's licenced through the winter here but only gets out during dry weather in the winter here, which is a rainy climate like Seattle.

Don't know if anyone remembers Mike Sealy. He was an avid forwoodlooker and a good friend of mine. He passed away about two years ago and his wife gave me his '60 Chrysler Saratoga. The car was a good driver but in dire need of paint. I recently had it painted and I now drive it almost daily. It's amazing how much more fun it is to drive a car when it looks a lot better.

Here are my Dodges in mothballs. The shop did not get built this summer, so the poor cars will have to endure one more season of exposure. It is cold, grey, 25 degrees and lightly snowing. No fun for building.

About once a week or so to the Dairy Queen and cruise the strip a couple of times, then back home. About 30 miles round trip. Each time, I find a new bug to fix. Pete.

*****************************

This is a set I've had kicking around for years. I saved every one I ever came onto back when such things were more common.

Wires really look right on certain cars. I think they can make the biggest change of appearance on wagons more than any other body. After 56, wires were no longer stock options and had to be ordered over the counter, so they really are most "correct" on the 56 and earlier cars. These are actually big body wires with the inner bead lacing. Dodge and Plymouth used a different variant with the spokes laced way out flush with the outer bead. I prefer the deeper dish look, and besides, finding the shallow types is really tough, as they sold about 1 set of them for every 100 of the deeper ones on the more upmarket cars. Wagons can take on a certain "sporty?" .... "elegant?" look with the whites and wires. I think the 56 Dodge is charmingly cute and spunky with its older, rounded body contrasted with the pointy 56 details. The wires are a natural.

I put them on to inspire me to get working on it. A dumped-out old wreck in the corner is much less likely to get me motivated than something that fires me up to go driving it.

Well, there ya go, Doc - that Sierra's now a poster boy for all us pack rats. There's a hell of a lot to be said about thinking ahead, especially these days.

The '55s and '56s - all up and down the MoPar make line - with their relatively short cargo area and stance, are naturally a bit sportier than a typical wagon of the era anyways. But those Kelsey's really do complete the ensemble on that Sierra. What an awesome touch of class.

I'm a Sunday driver, evenings in the summer are best, top down, cruising the uncrowded freeways, or parks. I had her out in Hollywood a couple of weekends ago. Scared the s**t out of me, way too crowded and way too many uninsured drivers on Hollywood Blvd!

I'll see what I can do.

I have two. One reads "sound horn for service", it came out of a DeSoto dealership in Butte, MT.

The other one only has a green neon ring behind the lettering and reads "Colfax Motor Co. / DeSoto-Plymouth" (with a 3 digit phone number). Colfax is a small town about 60 miles south of me. Strangely, I got this one from an antique dealer in Seattle back when I lived there.

I drive mine as much as possible, weather permitting. When I'm not dealing with the occasional mechanical problems i usually drive it everyday to work and out at night/on weekends unless I'm going somewhere that might be unsafe to have it. Around here this is a semi rarity. I usually take the car to maine 5 times a year which is about a 4 hour trip from here each way. Drives better on the highway then my 03 Tacoma in my heavily biased opinion. I reset the odometer when I finished the car 4 years ago (Its registered as true mileage unknown) and its got a little under 25 thousand on it now. It has many more to come.

This time of year here in Sweden, it's parked right inside the garage - but in the summer time I drive it as often as I can - I just love it too much and I don't see the point to have a car still standing. Who knows how long we can get the gas for the at a resonable price. The again, my motto is "I don't count miles per gallon, just count the smiles per gallon".
The old Toga of mine just loves to stretch out on a nice highway in 70- 80, in that speed it's really an amazing ride.

Gary,

Here is a pic of the neon clocks. I also posted them under their own thread.

The " sound horn for service " unit came from Butte, Mt. and was pretty crashed when I got it. The can had rusted out so badly I had another made. The letter tubing was used for patterns. The inner ring of green tubing is the only original neon left.

The other is an early unit (pre-war) that I got from an antique dealer before ever moving to this area. Turns out it came from Colfax, a small town about 60 miles south of here. It is not lit in the photo, as it needs a new plug end installed and I have been slacking on putting it on (it sits on the windowsill right next to the clock).

My 1970 Volvo has been my wintercar for years, but now I decided to retire her.

Do you think that the american guys know what a Kingsway is "Kingsway"? It must be really rare over there, while we had a lot of them in Sweden (where they were assembled) and I think also in Finland.

Some know, most probably here.. but better say Dodge first. Kingsways imported new to Finland, which I know, were built and assembled in Detroit.

I have driven my '61 DeSoto 2-dr Ht in three days this year. It got serious head problems and now the whole 361 is pulled out and under reconditioning. My traffic insurance allow me to drive that car for 30 days a year.

I drive my 58 every other weekend and try and do the local Saturday shows to keep her in running shape.

I only drive mine when it is good weather. It took me to long, and alot of
work and money to get the car I wanted this nice. I don't want to have it ruined
by some idiot who can't drive on rain wet roads. I want it to out last me, so my
kids can enjoy this old cars alittle after I'm gone.

Besides, who's going to come out and admire and give prise about my pride and joy
in a driving down pour. Unlike the people of Sweden, who only get two or three
months of good weather all year and must drive every chance they get, here in the
mid-west I have a lot of time in the spring, summer, and fall to drive, enjoy , and
show-off my car. I've got my old truck for the bad weather.

As often as possible, even if its just down the street to get coffe for the boys in the morning or all the way to Vegas. So far since the resto, she's been to Vegas, New York several times, Conneticut, Rhode Island, Kentucky a bunch, Illinois a bunch and of course TULSA. The only way to enjoy these beautiful pieces of automotive artwork is to drive them!

I try to drive my project car a few times a month when the weather’s alright, but truthfully it spends more time parked, especially once the cold and salt hit. Storage is always on my mind because I don’t want it out in the elements, and my garage space is really limited. I’ve had to leave it in outdoor storage before and I’m always sort of stressed about security and the battery staying good.

Recently, I looked into secure and flexible vehicle storage options in Ottawa for my classic, since there are places around that help with both short-term and long-term. I found some practical info about vehicle storage Ottawa services if you’re in the same spot. You can check here: https://canadiantowingottawa.com/vehicle-storage-ottawa/

I love seeing the old threads come back!  My De Soto gets a lot more use in the summer months, but I try to drive it at least once a month year round.

My Dodge hasn't see the open road since Christ was a corporal.

Because of the bad winter weather in Germany (and the salt on the roads), I store my vintage cars in a dry barn during that time. From April to October, they’re parked right next to the house and get driven whenever the weather is nice—or at least when it’s not raining. My wife even drives the NY to work sometimes because she loves it so much. On average, we drive about 3,000 miles a year. There are also a few other favorite cars that need to be driven.

Once I get it out of winter storage, it’s usually once a week. I have a few classics to choose from and they all get driven, so sometimes it sits longer than a week.
