Hello, Sven! Where do you live?

Boy, that's a STRAIGHT car. and, that's a great view of the optional Saratoga side trim,
that was discussed recently, around here!

Hi d500neil, I live in southern Sweden on a small island called Sturkö. Yes the old gal has a really nice figure still after all those years. Just finished the job of changing the floor carpets and there is not even a hole in the floor pans - some surface rust was found but I only had to brush it off and paint the floor. It was a Florida car from the beginning, so the crome was not so good (bumpers recromed) with a lot of pittings and webbings. I have changed some and will evetualluy recrome some parts.

Nice unibody Chrysy.. Does the law of our old mother country from which we separated nearly 200 years ago require the reflectors on rear bumper?

Yes Spinout that's affirmative! Law request otherwise it would be the waste bin with those (maybe I will de mount them and only use them for the inspection)

Those are lovely reflectors...

Sven, are you sure that you don't live on a TROPICAL island? Sure don't look like Vasteras.....

Very nice Sven! Looks like lots of exterior options on this car, what kind of other options? Did your car have the cut pile carpeting or the loop pile carpeting? I have seen both in 60 Chryslers and I don't know which is original.

Oh wow! Beautiful car. I love it. If I find one like that around here, just try to hold me back.

How does this car look with wider whites? I can't decide what would look better in my mind.

Thanks TailFinGary, the Toga has the "delux" side trim, front fender ornaments and I have also bought the correct 3post passenger fender mirror. On the inside, she will get the 6way power seat, which I have bought and restored and the Mirrormatic will most probably also be bought and installed. She has now the rear speaker trims and mesh, which I got from E-bay and the rear defroster will also be mounted.

Then I wish to get the power windows as well, but you know that all options cost some money and time.

My Toga had the loop curl as original, and so has most of the Chryslers from 59-60 that I've seen (before restauration) - my bet is that the loop curl was original - I don't know when the cut pile entered on the marked.

I can very much guarantee you d500neil, that this is not a tropical island! We have now misty, rainy weather with low temperatures and the humidity cuts right to the very bones in my body.
In fact, its long away from Vasteras (in our small country, that is) the island is called Sturkö and there are only about 1700 habitants year around + tourists in the summer.

Started up the lady today

She shook and shuddered a little due to vaporized gasoline in the carburetor - then she caught and started to hum the fantastic gurgle of a V 8! After a long winter sleep, she woke up and came to life again.
The rear seat is now back in place and hopefully within short also the front seat will be in place

I usually take away the lead to the distributor and crank up the oilpressure Sid, it's a good idea to heat up the oilpan.

Great looking Saratoga,  here are a few pics of a loaded Saratoga that was for sale in Canada about 2 years ago.  Has power windows, power seat, 7 button radio,  large rear window, clear steering wheel.   It was a low-mileage original .

these are GREAT cars. today i took my girls original 150K (drivetrain never rebuild) mile 61 desoto coupe out of winter storage for a 60 mile test drive on the autobahn it runs so smooth 30 or 130 mph it drives and handles perfect. these are the greatest cars ever build!
you did a great job on the seat covers!

I would be afraid to plop my mASS onto that beautiful, virgin seat upholstery, and terrified to think about anyone
else doing similarly, on the pASSenger's side of the seat!

That's an awfully expansive area of contiguous upholstery, there.

Get thee to a nunnery (or, at least, to a supplier of clear plastic seat covering material) !

Neil, when I'm home, I'll always go out to the garage one last time every night. Sometimes I'll get in the car, just sitting there with the domelight or the instrument lights on, a Rock N' Roll tune oozing out of the speakers - and start to drift away. We call this "dry drivin'" here, but whatever you call it, I'm almost sure that you've done it to.

I took the Toga to the Car Inspection today - clean report, not even a comment (other than the waow's and ooh's from the inspection guys - they just stayed in the car and admired it)!
Here in Sweden we have to inspect only every 2 years - so now it's only to cruise away.

The brakes had a perfect even pull and the front wheel suspension had no freeplay or any other defects! I just made an overall check, greased up the all the joints and performed some maintenance.

As Sid would put it, "those cars where most probably the best cars ever built"

Looked like it was nice weather today, so we took the Toga for a ride. Naturally it started to rain a little, but she can handle a little water. It's amazing how handable those cars is, on the highway I drove her up to 75 mph, but a steady 60 was ideal for good economy.

You have the COVETED MirrorMatic ! Is it original to the car ? - it looks like the 1959 version, as the 1960 and later version has an adjustment wheel rather than the sliding switch. I have been trying to scoop one of these at a reasonable price for 2 years !!

How true Ian, that is a 59 mirror that comes from a Plymouth Fury. I was lucky enough to find it at a very reasonable price ($350) in SWEDEN with a BRAND NEW mirror glass mounted. The mirror glass comes from a Volvo P 1800 and is cut down to the correct size (just a tiny bit missing in both the lower corners, since that mirror is not sufficiant in size) No my Saratoga did not have the Mirrormatic originally mounted. That is a real cool option (connect to the H terminal on the lightswitch). The only reasonable prices you'll find maybe with a bad spotted webbed mirror glass, but go ahead and buy them anyway - find a bigger mirror and have a glassworker cut it to size and polish away the silvercoat for the photocell. I'll keep an eye open for you and send yo a PM if I see one.

I had a mirror-matic at one time in a 1960 Dodge Polara that I used to own.  I bought it in the late 1970s for $100.00 and had the mirror re-silvered.  The mirror needed nothing else,  and continues to work today on that car for the present owner.

Interesting about re-silvering Ian, I wonder if we do that kind of work also here in Sweden? I heard that it is a complicated procedure that requires care and cleanliness.

I'm assuming that's Mrs. Wizard in the MirrorMatic?

I wish I could get my wife to be comfortable driving these old cars around.

Nathan, that is Mrs. Wizard indeed and I made the mistake long time ago to learn her drive those cars - she's absolutely crazy about the car and want's to drive it as much as I let her.

I wish I could get my wife to be comfortable driving these old cars around.
(It scares me that she'll just sell 'em off when I'm gone!)

We've discussed this before, Nathan. I thought you resolved that issue before tying the knot!

Anyway, that '60 rocks and I like the color.

Rick, the Toga didn't have much when I bought her - I added some optionals;
Power seat
Mirrormatic
(Power windows) This winter
Fender ornaments
All chrome inside HT trim
Rear speaker trim and mesh
Rear defroster
Vanity mirror

The engine is a 383.

That is really cool. Where's you find those options? It's hard to find them in the US. I have made a deal to buy a 60 NewYorker with a 413, power windows, fender ornaments, wheel well moldings and rockermouldings. It also has the remote control mirror and I am not sure which am radio it has. The guy is letting me make payments so I am not real excited about the car yet. But I will be.. A very interesting fact about the seller is that he went highschool with my late father.. I just call that a rediculious coincidence..

Thanks for posting all the great pictures Sven! What a spectacular combination of car and scenery! I have a thing for the 4 door hardtops too, I think that roofline is an elegant complement to the sleek Forward Look styling!

Thank you for your kind words Roger! I agree with you on the 4 door hardtop lines, created by "Ex".
