They don't make Simonize paste wax anymore do they? I was telling my Dad the other day that I had waxed my car, and he asked me what brand wax I used and then said Simonize? My Dad who was just a little kid in the 50's seems to bring up brands of products that I am sure they haven't made for years. Anyway, it seems to me that a lot of the old advertisments for Simonize Vista wax use Chrysler corp cars for their ads. So far I have seen them with a 56 Plymouth a 58 Plymouth and I think a 58 Newyorker. I have a feeling these ads came out well after the cars were new because they always seem to have a line like, it made my car look new again, and sometimes the people in the ads look like people from the 60's Anyone remember simonize wax?

You know, I guess they do still make it, while searching google for some of the old ads I came across some modern advertisments.

I remember them, and the cars were new in the ads back before the 1960's.

I have a Simoniz ad from 1936 with a 1936 Graham Supercharger 4-door sedan. I found it attached to the wall of my grandparent's garage. My father's first car was a 1931 Graham (bought in 1940) which he traded a year and a half later for a 1936 Graham Supercharger - just like the one in the ad. He had that car until 1950 when he sold it and bought a 1940 Plymouth - the first of a long line of Chryco products.

The father in "A Christmas Story" got a can of Simoniz for Christmas. It was a paste wax very similar to the floor wax of the time. Used it on my 1972 Dart once and for almost a month afterwards I could re-wax the car after hosing it down with cold water. (Warm water would wash the wax off the car)

James, I think that Simoniz car wax was available up until a few years ago, I remember seeing it in our local mercantile store then. ---John

James, I have been looking for more of that wax for several years.
I finally sent an e-mail to Simoniz and they said that they have discontinued
making that brand several years ago. They said to use their regular
"Simoniz Paste Wax" which is Supposed to be the same stuff.

I loved that "Vista" paste wax. It just melted tar off of paint without any rubbing
and would last a whole summer of washings without a rewax. I lived
in the country as a kid and the asphalt roads back then really got sticky and
messy during the summer months.

Another quality product hits the dust.

They do still make it - I found it in a weird place - the Christmas Story House gift shop in Cleveland, Ohio this past Thanksgiving - It was given to Darren McGavin (the Dad - Mr. Parker) as a Christmas gift in the movie (He used it to polish his 1937 Olds) and they have it there in the gift shop -
Their number is 216-298-4919

You'll shoot your eye out!

I know this is an old thread, but looky what I found in the garage. This likely came from my grandparent's house years ago as my dad was never known for waxing a car.

I wonder how this stacked up against the Simoniz Vista. Speaking of stacked up: "For all weather protection" , Simoniz advert by Gil Elvgren, 1950's

Blue Coral liquid was my favorite up through the 60's. But it made you work for it. Then I discovered J wax ....... Still love it.

Now days it's Miguires carnuba past wax. I carry it with me.

Remember that a lot of the WWII aircraft had either superchargers or turbochargers to help with performance at higher altitudes.

interesting...
i'm familiar with the Paxton Superchargers...
the Studebaker Avanti had one in '63 and the '57/'58 Studebaker Golden Hawks had one...
i think that Packard Clippers and Hawks also had one in '57/'58...

guess i just thought they were RARE and that the "mainstream" (Chevy, Ford, MoPar) 'never heard of them'...
