What is the correct color for the air cleaner on a '61 Golden Lion? I'm pretty sure the engine itself is suppose to be black, but is the air cleaner gold or black as well?

Any pictures would be great as well.

You're right. Engine is black, air cleaner is gold.

I am making an offer for a 60 NewYorker this coming friday.. It has a 413. What kind of performance can I expect? I have a 60 IMpala with a 283 that does okay on the highway cruising between 70 and 75.. I have heard that the 413 can cruise all day at 100. I that true?

The 413 will pass your chebbie whilst still in 2nd gear. I have had 2, 413's still have one, and they are great engines.
Lotta low end torque, witness my smokeout on UTube, and they run forever.

RIck, the 413 engine is the predecessor to the 426 MAX WEDGE, the 426 HEMI and the 440. It is in the Raised "B" Block family of Chrysler engines which are very similar to the Low Block "B" engines, 361, 383 and 400. Your New Yorker for 1960 is rated at 350 HP. They go forever, I have one in my 1962 Chrysler 300 with dual four barrels rated at 380 HP. Will hit 60 MPH in about 7 seconds. I took it up to 126 MPH once and ran out of driving room. The guy I bought it from had it up to 141 MPH. It has a 150 MPH speedo.

WOW!!! Nice ride and girl!!! I really like the Desoto hubcaps and unlike most guys on this forum I really like fenderskirts. You can also take them off if you don't like them. They make the car look longer and lower.. If I get this Newyorker I'd like to find stainless skirts for it since the car has soo much stainless trim around the wheel wells.. I also think it would be awesome to be passed by a newYorker on the highway.

The existing part # for the Golden Lion paint from Chrysler has been discontinued. Does anyone have a new source or part # for the gold paint?

Well, I was at the zoo this weekend with the little ones. They love to see all of the animals in their natural habitat. Anyway, I took a break from the group so I could spend a few minutes sharing my ideas with the animal trainers - it appears they currently have no plans to increase zoo attendance by hosting intramural elephant and tiger fighting. But while I was back behind the exhibit, I did notice one of the trainers using what appeared to be a common spray can of Rustoleum to touch up one of the lions. The poor beast had gotten a bit scuffed up on one side and naturally a lot of the gold had been worn off. Next time I'm there I'll try to get the code off the can.

ripped this from imperail club...

1960 era instrument and speedometer needles, Testor Model Master Flourescent Red #FS28915. http://www.testors.com/products/136210

1960 air cleaner gold may use Plastikote Gold (452). It probably will need clear coat to hold up in the engine compartment environment. http://www.midwayautosupply.com/p-14805-plastikote-metallic-paint-1...

Some members have also recommended Dupli-Color DE1604 Universal Gold Engine Paint for the air cleaners.

See also http://www.chrysler300club.com/rcmstuff/1acleaner/01.html for a color comparison on H air cleaners.

Long ram paint: Cummins engine Apex red #3163075.

From Herb Rogers: Your Chrysler dealer has original factory colors. Golden Lion Gold P4529149 Mopar Performance paint. Be sure to use a red primer .
Another match is a Opel gold from a auto parts store.

At long last, I got to painting the single four barrel air cleaner on the 61 New Yorker 413. I purposely left a small area of original gold paint underneath so it could be compared with any new paint color. Turns out that VHT high temperature universal gold engine enamel SP132 is a dead on match to the original paint patch. It looks like a great match in direct sunlight and indoors as well so give it a try on your next air cleaner.

This is the same paint I used on my air cleaner. Too bad I got the decal on the wrong side, and crooked at that. LOL

Ian,

It may be on the wrong side but the 'crooked' part is definitely factory accurate.........:-)

Sorry if my question is stupid but is the colour scheme of a black engine with gold air cleaner referring to a '61 Newport 361 and if so, are the rocker covers gold also?
What about the air intake valley, what colour is that suppose to be?

Recently I painted my aircleaner housing.
The paint was a rattle can DUPLI COLOR 385902 ,
then I applied 2K clear coat.
Fits yet quite well.
