Location: The Mile High City | Wow! That is a rare one! He advertised it as a numbers matching 383 - but I would guess it is a 325 if the mill hasn't been replaced. It has the extra rare third hood ornament, a cool trick that the '58 Dodge folks can pull off. Before I bought my DeSoto, I was looking all over for this car. Funny how things turn up. I hope someone on the list buys it and brings it back to life and shares it with us! This would be a great car to see on this site. These two door wagons are wonderful. From the side view, they are a wagon all to their own. The four-doors have the look of a sedan with an attached wagon roof on the back; not these two-doors. I have seen several Plymouths, but the Dodges (particularly the '58s) are few and far between. The survival rate on these must be very, very low.

Location: The Mile High City | It is one of those cars where if you are looking for it, you'll probably never see one again. $4,500 seems pretty reasonable to me - remember, my brain is totally warped to '58 Dodgelusional. Solex all the way around in an air-conditioned car. Those back glass pieces must be mighty dang rare! I bet most of those two-door grocery getters were bought on the cheap with not many shelling out the extra clams for Solex. This one probably has the "Suburban" script - Geez! Photos are terrible. It looks like the front windshield is busted? Nope. Probably just the wipers, giving me the finger. I wonder if it has that funky dual air-conditioning system? Somebody buy this thing right now! I'm all a-twitter and can't stand it any longer. Don't make me call Texas. Edited by Lancer Mike 2008-05-31 1:10 AM

Location: The Mile High City | Danny, that's a heck of a find. I say run over there and start wheelin' and dealin'. Maybe he'll take an old Honda for it or something crazy. Once you get sick of it, maybe I can buy it from you! Edited by Lancer Mike 2008-05-31 1:14 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 636 | This car like all 58 Dodge wagons, has the B 350 w/power pack as the standard engine. The only other engines available were 2 HO versions of the 361. Sparky

Location: The Mile High City | Wow! I keep learning new stuff about the wagons. Thanks Sparky! Even better - the 350 B should power the heavy wagons quite nicely. Smallest big block the Chrysler Corporation ever made. I did get a reply from the seller - looks like he is selling it for a friend. I will have to call to get more information.

Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Danny: The seller said the car belongs to a friend of his named Tony Jameson. I will send you Tony's phone number by personal message, so it isn't all over the web. If it is close to you, maybe you could go out and take a look. Beats cleaning the basement! Thanks, Mike

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Well, it's not the worst car I've ever seen, but it needs some help. I had to get out pretty quick as he was busy with a lot of other things. Worst of all - I didn't have my camera so I had to use my cell phone. It doesn't seem to have many rust issues. I've never seen tinted glass on any 2dr wagon, that has to be rare. I'm not sure if the A/C is original, but it looks like it is. The trim tag doesn't indicate many options. The codes (as best as I could read them) are 203, 305, 487, and 606. Under the SCHEDULE part of the tag is 1023 05017 Under BDY is 371 Under PNT is 1XXX Under TRM is 123 The weirdest thing was the VIN tag. Can anyone explain this? Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Danny - thanks for those pictures and all the information. That all seems to fit the information that I have. Of course, 371 is the correct code for a 1958 Dodge two-door Suburban wagon. It shows a solid eggshell white paint code. Code 123 is the correct trim code for ivory and black. The schedule numbers indicate it was assembled on October 23, 1957 (very early). The vehicle number indicates that it was built in Hamtramck. I don't know what the little asterisks or stars are. I am pretty sure the codes relate to air conditioning and Solex glass. That is a factory installed air conditioning unit. It looks like the master cylinder was replaced over time and the generator too. The front spit bench was replaced with late model seats with head rests. Tan shag carpet and tape deck were added over time. Of course, the air cleaner was replaced and the window washer was rerouted to a new reservoir. It looks a bit rough, like you say - it is a rare duck though.

Can you imagine 150+K in this thing with a blown hemi.....like i said not my thing but it would be in every mag out there That's a bit of a stretch. The Nomad was a two-door wagon HARDTOP. GM built a TON of two-door post-wagons -- Bel-Air, 150, 210, etc. But they were NOT the same as a Nomad. And the Mopar wagons weren't hardtops either, so your comparison is heavily flawed. Elite Veteran Posts: 709 Location: Poznan, Poland, Europe | I was always wondering where GM did see a hardtop in the Nomad...the classic one, 55-57. Hardtop is a thing without the B pillar, the middle one. Nomad has it, and very wide actually. A hardtop wagon would be a '57 Century Caballero for me or the Olds 88 Super Fiesta or however the names went in order. ChryCo had hardtop wagons later, the 1960-61 Chryslers, the '60 Dodge polara, 62 Dodge Custom 880, I think only Plymouth was left without hardtop wagon, and Imperial& DeSoto for obvious reasons of not offering wagons.

Elite Veteran Posts: 636 | Chrysler had hardtop wagons from '60 through '64. I think Dodge had one in '61 too. There are some great looking Mercury HT wagons from 58-59. Sparky

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | I completely missed seeing this thread, originally, but, check out how the wagon's owner retrofitted a late 60's power brake booster, with dual resevoir, to this car. Then, go check out the wear that the non-power braked brake-pedal sustained, from apparently, a lot of stop-and-go traveling. This 2-dr wagon has OEM A/C, but, originally, manual steering and brakes. Location: Under the X in Texas | I hope someone pursued this rare wagon and got it into our group. Didja? Anyone? Surely the price could have been negotiated down. We Texans are easy to deal with....... sometimes.
