Member Posts: 17 | Thanks for the info on "carpet". When you found NOS rubber, was it still pliable? I'm afraid that it may have aged on the shelf as bad as mine in the car. It doesn't bend, it cracks!

Member Posts: 17 | Thanks again for all the help and the ad copy. I had located Chrysler's taxi brochure, but no mention of a diesel being available. Their estimate of top speed seems like an exaggeration. All the fabric for my 60 came from SMS. Took a while to receive it, but it's nice. I'll look for a tag on the rear, or do the old fashioned count the revs for a close guess.

Every time he drove the car nobody wanted to be behind the car, cause speed and .... smoke ! Edited by Phil_the_frenchie 2019-02-14 4:39 AM

Member Posts: 17 | This engine really smoked when it ran for the first time in 40 plus years. It died down a little on it's own, I guess as the rings reseated and some of the junk blew out. But it still was visible and burned your eyes! Then I started tweaking the fuel injection pump timing and got the smoke down to almost invisible by advancing it a little. Still smells, but not nearly as much.

Member Posts: 17 | Mike: PM or email me about those diesels. After my experiences with this one, I could use some spare parts! Thanks

Member Posts: 17 | I've got it driving now, with an antique car license. It gets lots of attention at local cruise-ins. Will try to upload short videos. Still in desperate need of a manual steering box.

It certainly adds a side to the Chrysler story which many of us may not have known, and has generated quite a lot of info from members in the know.

Member Posts: 17 | She's on her way to good health. Torqueflite had the steering box I needed, should be here in a couple of weeks. She's fairly roadworthy, other than the loose steering. I think I'll head off the environmental enforcers by replacing the fuel tank which has a constant slow diffused drip. I hope to purchase a new one and have it modified for the fuel return required on diesels. All additional knowledge is welcome, as this is my first venture into diesels. I'm headed to an antique tractor show tomorrow at the request of one of the participants. We'll see if the interest is as high there as it is among the car guys at the cruise-ins.

Expert Posts: 2221 ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Muskego, WI | Highduster, I think you'll steal the show! If you still have that Borg Warner overdrive that was in the trunk of the car, get that set up and into the car. Add a turbo and then it won't be so slow AND you'll have great fuel economy. Can't wait to see videos of this running and driving and great to hear another FL car is back on the road!
