Do you mean "couch", ... as in an upholstered seating area for two or more ?

I don't know if that would look good. I'm more used to seeing Ch3bbies and Cadillacs being turned into rec room furniture. Here's one site that may give you some ideas (but if you chop the fins off the rear of a 58 Plymouth to turn it into a couch I'd rather not see it.)

The plymouth was not going to get restored , way too far gone and was a 4 door , it was a good dorner for a 2 door ht,, also helped out a few other cars, and friends , not to worry I always make sure enerthing get used,, I really think a plymouth fin couch will look allot cooler then a chevy,, Later Tim

"and was a 4 door" Ouch, some might take offense to that.

Glad to hear it helped some other cars out and wasn't hacked up just becuase it was a four door.

A word of advice, you are playing with fire here. I have no personal opinion here as I didn't see the car before it was cut, and have no idea if anything was salvageable or not, and I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Continue the thread if you like, but the going is not likely to be all that smooth.

I'd GLADLY rather see a rear clip used off a '57-'58 Chrysler product, than see it turned into a Honda at the crusher.....At least THAT much of it was saved...The novelty of a real car couch is about played out for most that ACTUALLY have them, but for me, I wouldn't mind having one.....

Hate you caught this much hell over this Tim. Actually, it is pretty funny because a lot of us have bought so many hard to find parts from you. I can vouch that when you part a car(2, 4 door or wagon), you part it all the way out. Does anybody know who this guy is? Hint: He has a 60 Fury sonoramic car, 58 belvy 2-4's car, 58 belvy 'vert 2-4's car(all 3 immaculate) and a ton of parts and parts cars. If Tim is gonna make a couch, it is because he couldn't sell the fins!!

And your point is what? Fin couches just go against some peoples beliefs, and that's the way it is. I have seen Plymouths and other makes of cars with the fin rusted through at the top, dented, holes punched in them, creased, mangled in a lot of ways. It dosen't matter to me personally if someone else decides to make a couch out of the sheet metal, but I wouldn't do it . And really, the little bit of opposition voiced here can't even begin to be described as catching hell, I'm sure a lot of you remember the past discussions on this same topic.

Oh yeah, I remember the many different couch discussions. I just wanted to clear it up that Tim wouldn't do it to a car that he could have sold to someone who needed it. Parts or whole. Really a good guy. Kinda like a Big M in ND. My car wouldn't have made it without Tim and John, no s**t. Larry

Perhaps someone could make a fiberglass repro? Save a car and be a lot lighter to move around.

Hey man, I have the same plan. out back of my shop sit's the hull of a rusty 4 door that is gutted. I know fair and well it will never be anything but something like that or sold to a crusher. I see a saws all in it's future.

Yes, but one must take into consideration that, regardless of the make, car couches just look stupid.

From the Sweet Sofa site here is a couch made from a 1957 Dodge Royal. Not to my taste but maybe this will be an inspiration to you as you wield the saws-all on your 57 Plymouth shell

k, I wasn't here for all he bitchin' bout the couches, but why do some hate these so much? I mean, why would someone hate to see a Forward look couch?

Is it the wasted/unusable parts?
Is it the fact that a saw was taken to the car at all?
Is it because it's cleche'?

Why I can give a hundred reasons why I won't join the Mopar bandwagon with the HEMI, but I was just wondering why some hate this so...

Remember this one.....................

1957 DeSoto Couch

This 1957 DeSoto couch was made from a rust free car in a Texas junk yard. The car was crushed from the roof forward. You can turn the tail lights on with a small switch located on the back of the couch. This is a beautiful piece of furniture.

$3,900.00

Now that one looks nice with the yellow and white upholstery. I would still not really want it; not at $3,900 that is. Nice touch though that the guy who made it put some bulbs in the taillights and wired them up to glow when you flicked a switch. (Pity about it being crafted from a rust-free Texas body though.)

I consider the couch thing a craze and a cliche and I wouldn't want one myself, but I've got no beef with a guy if he wants to make one - especially if the car he's using to create the couch is good for nothing else. At least the car isn't being crushed and turned into more Japanese/Korean imports.

For me it is none of the above. I just think they look ridiculous. You take the beautiful flowing lines of a complete concept, particularly the FL era cars, abruptly truncate them - there is no aesthetically pleasing way to do this - and then in an attempt to make them have some sort of utility, cram them with porch cushions. If one likes that awkward bas***d look, then build one.

Here's a GREAT idea. Instead of wasting good pieces of FLs for awkward-looking and uncomfortable sofas, use COW DUNG! It's cheaper, more comfortable and no one will get pissed-off!

I think you all have secret wet dreams of having your own 57/58 FL Mopar couch in your livingroom!

EDIT : Sorry 5859. I deleted my post and sent it again with small change. So this should be before your post.

It IS a form of art . Ya know , everyone BITCHES and MOANS about the wasted parts that coulda , woulda , shoulda went to better use . So why not buy the parts , so they can be used for the way YOU see fit . People always complain , but don t buy the parts when they come up for sale .

Kinda like voiceing your political opinion , ifn ya don t vote keep yer pie hole shut .

I look forward to seeing your rendition of a Forward look couch .

I can see its been three years, but did this couch ever get built?

I am possibly trading for a 58 Plymouth four door that the roof was cut off and is missing/ gone. Its been hacked up. So I thought about saving the rest of the car and also building a couch myself. If I dont trade the guy for a sweptline truck shortbed I have, its going to the crusher.

Was just curious to see if this couch was ever built. If I do pick this up and build a couch, it will be comfy to be sure as it will be in my mopar home shop.

just curious
