Location: DFW, TX		StillOutThere - that is GREAT!! Thank you for posting those. That is the first Hemi EFI manifold I've seen. I guess the only other EFI intake I've seen would be the B-engine version on Tom White's Adventurer. Do you have any idea what became of that fuel injection setup? I see that the emblems are also in the trunk along with the electronics and injectors. Was this car recalled and the parts left with it? Or did this car survive for years with its EFI intact?

Location: calif		a number of years ago,i acquired 3 or 4 pairs of cast 1958 FI emblems,not plated.....could never authenticate their origin,but defintely not done recently.
i need to keep one pair in case i ever find a car to put my B FI intake into,so i'll sell the pairs i don't need for $400 to the first FL's who pm me.

The pictures were taken in Bob Dupin's 300D trunk before his passing.  Bob's car, #LC4-1525, is one of the original EFI cars but had been recalled and retrofitted with carbs like all the others.   Bob had found during his ownership of the car, the original Bosch display EFI with chromed parts and a second production EFI unit so there were two units in his possession.   Over the years Bob took the original EFI block out of the car and had it on a stand in his garage (see pic) and had a 300C motor driving in the car.   The units, original engine, all related were still with the car when Bob passed and a friend who's name I do not know inherited the car and it has never been seen since!

Ripper, we use screen names for a reason don't we?   Otherwise a Google search would turn up every post we ever make.  I don't want that and apparently you don't either!

Bob Dupin had no intention of getting the EFI working.   His thoughts were to continue enjoying the car with the 300C engine and keep the EFI 300D matching number engine complete but reassembled for display with the car.   He did so until his passing.   Bob was a 300 historian with tremendous Letter Car files and documentation and has been gone for some time.  He was a generous correspondent and I miss him to this day.  Those of you who knew John Hertog in 300 land knew the same quality of person.

Location: Sept. 1958		Does anyone here remember a white 300D hardtop on eBay back in 02 or 03? I remember I was in high school at that time. It was originally a fuelie and even had the dogleg style oil filler in it. I was amazed by it and didn't know the other Mopar divisions offered it until the article on Tom White's Desoto in 2004.

hi all
i am a long time lurker with a question. was Bob Dupin from louisville ky?? if so he lived around the corner from some close friends of mine and worked out of a garage at his residence. i knew him just by greetings and seem to recall a sharp red/coral? 300 conv.

Yes, Bob lived in Louisville.  He owned numerous cars over the years as well as having an assortment of friends cars at his home for work so there is no telling what car you may have seen at his house on a particular day.

The Dupin 300D has a feature article in the April 1993 Mopar Collector's Guide.

Location: DFW, TX		I'm reviving this thread because I am still on the hunt for a pair (or single) of this emblem to buy or clone.

I now have a Hilborn injector for my Chrysler so I have an extra incentive to locate and use a pair of these emblems. Of course it is light-years from the Bendix EFI of '58 (this mechanical fuel injection actually WORKS) but I would really like to set the car off with a pair of the OEM emblems. Any help locating some would be greatly appreciated.

About my Hilborn injector, it was sold in Feb '59 to Kamm's Service (anyone heard of them?). It was the 280th injector sold by Hilborn and was set up from new to be used on a 318 Plymouth, which by 1959 would likely have been a Fury. If this story rings a bell with anyone, please let me know.

May not be a huge deal to you guys, but these early racing parts are rare and I have been searching a long time for one. For reference, this same unit was used on the Hot Rod Magazine "Suddenly" Plymouth race car.

I'm building a Hilborn injected 11.5:1 331 Hemi with '555' casting heads. I'm expecting it to have around 425hp.

The Hemi manifold was only slightly modified for use on the 318 Plymouth. The center bolt holes were elongated - and not too elegantly. I call it 'character'. The only other modification they listed was for the pump shaft which is long gone anyway. The key parts I need and which I have are the injector manifolds and throttle arrangement. I have a fuel distribution block and bypass valve. I'll still need lines, bypass jets and fuel nozzles sized for the Hemi as well as a pump and injector stacks. So, I guess I am 'collecting parts'.

Sometimes you just get a vision in your head and you have to go for it...

By the way - what is a 7503?

Location: STL, MO		An ancient design Weiand poly single 4 intake thats priced as precious metal, I traded an iron 2bbl intake for one last wk to a guy looking for better low speed resonse in his polypowered 2 ton truck, now its on my 58 poly as garage art.Hollie Swindle RIP of Backup Pickup fame used to spin those stacks at his shop, made fun of us for having to "buy" them, a REAL hotrodder. I think Ken Jack out of KC has alot of Hilborn Hemi stuff as do some local ex-fuel guys here in town, it's out there. 425 should be no big trick you'll just have to rev it a little

Location: Atlanta, GA		Another great source for information is Gil Cunningham. He does the decoding of Letter cars and is an expert on them. In his collection is the only 1958 300D fuelie that came with air conditioning.

Yes this stuff is out there, the trick is finding someone willing to sell it for a reasonable price. I'm hoping some of the old racers will cut me a break since I intend to actually use these old parts and not try to turn them for profit. But now that I know what I need, my search narrows. Making relationships with these guys during the hunt has been a lot of fun. They're always surprised to hear a hotrodded Hemi is going back INTO an old Chrysler...
