....what have I done to my FL car today?... I sold it!

I'll be looking for another toy soon.

WHAT!!!??? You're not serious! But you are aren't you. You musta got a bigbux offer!!

I am serious. Still a bit shocked I did it, but I received a good offer and the timing was just right.

I am already going to see another car next weekend, we'll see how that goes. If that deal does not work out, I plan on taking my time before choosing the next car..

Got my wiring harnesses from Greg Leggatt today. Nice work and great communication. Some other vendors could learn a lesson on customer service from guys like this. The one on the left is for the engine and dash. The one on the right is for the trunk. I may end up buying the others when I have more money. Everything is clearly labeled.

Drove the '59 Sport Fury to Hot August Nights in Reno last Wednesday, got stuck in traffic in Marysville, Ca. when two cars crashed on the bridge, for 45 minutes in 105 degree temps. No troubles except a plug wire was giving me fits crossing Donner summit. Once in Reno, found a plug wire boot cracked from heat, will have to replace them once I get home. Cruising on flat land it wouldn't act up, so fun was still had there.

Let me know if you go to another cruise in, within NC. Would love to join up!

Took apart motor in the 59 NY Convertible to find half bearings put in wrong. Motor would have ate itself in another 50-100 miles. Glad we found it before hand!

- I recently took my '57 DeSoto to a local Porsche club meeting, on the way back to its storage facility
- there was a huge turnout of all kinds of Porsches
- but even with about 2 million dollars worth of Porsches sitting around the place, the old DeSoto nabbed all of the attention!
- folks gathered around the car taking photos and asking questions..."Rolling Art" was a phrase I heard more than once
- super nice bunch of folks

- F.L. does it again!

Finished installing Magnum Force's new Wiwood disc brake kit on my '60 Dart. I'm replacing the Scarebird setup which weighs 40lbs per wheel. The Wilwood setup weighs 40lbs total and uses 4 piston calipers instead of the huge single piston on the Scarebird kit.

I drove my '59 Firesweep to the "Orphan" car show here in Branson sponsored by the local Studebaker-Packard club. There were only about 25 cars there mostly Studebakers and Packards which was expected. There was one '66 or'67 Pontiac GTO, one '73 Plymouth Roadrunner, and my DeSoto that stood out from the crowd. Overall it was a bad day as there were absolutely no spectators - only the car owners plus it was hotter than a firecracker with high humidity and temps in the upper 90's. I wound up leaving early, visited one of the auto museums, and drove around Branson which was much more enjoyable and obviously my car got much greater exposure than sitting in a parking lot. Just confirmed to me that for the most part, these car specific shows are boring as all get out - I'll take a "bring whatcha got" cruise any day with no competitive activity and generally no entry fees. Plus there are usually hundreds of cars - not just a few - and very seldom, if at all, are there any trailer queens!

Has changed to a new top (dark blue) at my Windsor 59. I mounted the new top itself, at home in the garage.
Bought new top (stay fast Canvas) of ARO2000 in New York. Very pleased with the quality.

I changed the inserts on my car. I removed the "Fury Jim" shiny and soft sticky inserts and installed the real aluminium repros from Marcel Poulin here in Canada. What an incredible improvement this makes!

Don't get me wrong, Fury Jim inserts are ok and they have the more correct waffle pattern, but they had been awkwardly installed on my car, were full of scratches and were damaged from fuel overspill down the side under the fuel door. Plus, I much prefer the non-shiny looks of Marcel's inserts, but that's just a personnal preference. Marcel's inserts fits perfectly, and he even goes to the extra length of making correct 90 degrees bends at the edges, and a perfect overfolding part at the rearmost edge, on the fin, just like the originals. Very high quality stuff!

I did nothing for the car itself but I managed to scavence almost all needed parts from a long-dead Dodge to convert my -58 Plymouth from manual steering, 3-on-the-tree -version into power steering, automatic transmission version.
Power steering gear, steering column, everything is here (except for pump and hoses).

Dodge is dead, long live Dodge!

It was a beautiful day today, so I fired up the '59, drove it up to the garage and put on a set of wire wheels/tires. I topped off all the fluids, checked the anti-freeze, and put her away for the winter.

Got my 59 Fury started today eventhough i was told it had a rebuilt motor by the previous owner ... but i am always very relieved when i here her run and not have any troubles .

I am all smiles today and can't wait till spring to arrive and she is on the road once again 1999 was her last safety inspection so its been a while.

Too good a deal to turn down. Car is Complete as all removed parts are in Trunk and inside the car. darn these Cars are a Disease and so Addictive.. Wanted a 2dr Lancer for nearly 10 years and now bought 2 within the last 54 weeks..

Did something today that I do every year when putting the car up for the winter. I pump the tires up to 45-50 psi to help minimize flat spots since the car is on the floor of the garage and I have to move it every once in awhile. Otherwise I'd put it on jack stands. Moving it occasionally also helps a bit for minimizing flat spots. Also added some Sta-Bil to the gas tank, ran the engine till warm, went through the gears a few times, shut her down, and hooked up the float charger. Till March it will be pretty much the queen of the garage.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Tried to replace the front bumper on my '57 Windsor with one that wasn't bent, but got rained out half-way through the job. I think California's drought is probably over now.

Again, new (old) parts for my puzzle. I got a word from a friend to check local car forum, and there was an ad for complete power brake system for -57-61 Mopars, Kelsey-Hayes type. The bellows seems to be in very good condition, but of course I'll check everything and do complete restoration for parts.

Now I need to decide what to do with brakes (-> dual circuit and disk brakes).

Got the suspension work done on the car: leaf springs were overhauled and adjusted, and the height of the car was lowered, especially in the front. Now the stance looks fine, to my eyes at least!

Wow David!! Your car looks great!!!

Due to work schedules, family issues, and money troubles...I finally did some work on my car, after almost 5 months. I finished removing a fender, after starting in October!

What did *I* do today. Well yesterday, I "finished" (mostly, still a couple of small things) my taillight project:

Today I drove my '59 DeSoto Firesweep to the Route 66 MoPar show in Branson, MO. Out of 110 cars there were only two FL's - mine and a '55 DeSoto Fireflite 2 door hardtop. Imagine that, both FL's were DeSotos!

I was lucky enough to get a trophy in the Classic Stock class but the '55 did not trophy believe it or not. Perhaps the wrong color repaint didn't impress the judges but the car is really nice. You will notice the pink color is actually '56 pink and not the '55 Emberglo is should be. Oh well, it is what it is.

What are your plans for this car Brad?

Those are some nice Desotos Viper Guy. I would love to own either one!

VERY nice indeed, soiouz!

Everyone seems to be sprucing up their cars for the summer season, and their F.L's. are looking wonderful.

I'm on day two of detailing my car's engine...I need longer arms!

On Father's Day I participated along with about 50 other invited guests for the 8th annual car show at the College of the Ozarks. A wonderful show with no entry fee plus a free brunch buffet for all the participants and one guest of each participant. As expected all the awards went to Chevys. Believe it or not my DeSoto was the ONLY Chrysler product on display!

When I wanted to install an under-dash A/C on my '56 Plaza, the cowl vent lever was in the way so I removed the handle and installed an electric linear actuator to the mechanism. Here's a video of it in operation.

Actually it was yesterday that the annual Branson Midnight Cruise took place. The rain held off long enough to get it completed. As usual there were probably around 600 cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. and probably 25000 people lining the parade route.

But that wasn't the most excitement for me.....I was cruising Branson earlier in the the day in my '59 Firesweep and was pulled over.....not by the cops but by 4 gentlemen in a '69 Road Runner that didn't know what my car was. They saw it go by and chased me down till we were at a stop light together. They asked if it was a Chrysler product (as they thought it was) and I of course said "yes it is". They asked if they could get a closer look so we pulled into a bank parking lot and spent about a half hour or so going over our cars and general car talk that went along with it.

This is what's the most fun with these cars when they generate so much interest. it's amazing the number horn honks, thumbs up, hoots and hollers and probably many of you have experienced the same. But by contrast, there are the snobby Chevy owners that couldn't care less about these fine automobiles.

I installed a clutch fan from a 1970 era Chrysler in the Saratoga 2 weeks ago.
Then we headed to Tacoma on the 15th and spent last week at the WPC National there.
Toured up Mt. Rainier with the club one day, got stuck in some traffic, and the temp gauge never went much past the center.
We won a second place in our class (1960-1964) that had about 14 cars in the class.
After the meet ended, from Tacoma we headed north back to Canada, (about 3 hours with a couple of stops along the way)
through the Aldergrove Border crossing, stayed at our son's overnight on Sunday in Abbotsford, and then on Monday left and took the freeway
and then cut over to the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler (Mountain Resort) north of Vancouver on the Sunshine Coast.
Car is safely parked in an underground parkade below our lodge. It is HOT here today, clear skies.
The heat almost feels like Southern California. Through all the driving the car has performed flawlessly so far,
even running the A/C most of the time. The clutch fan has one extra blade over the stock fan and is
overall about 2 inches more in diameter. We're here till Saturday, then back home to Vancouver Island.
It has been an amazing sunny and warm summer here in the Pacific Northwest. Contrary to Dr. DeSotos
criticism of dark skies and rain for this area, we had 53 days with no precipitation through June, July and early August,
then one night of rain and it's been sunny skies again since then! :-)
