I am setting up the shipping today on this car and was wondering if you all would like to watch it as well? It is a '57 that will be converted into a '58 Christine (I swear I know how to build other stuff) for a customer in England.
The former owner simply lost interest but I reckon a great deal has already been done to the car. I know it will be shipped packed full of stuff plus about 20 more boxes of stuff outside it.
Other than what can be seen in the pictures below that's about all I know of it. Let me know if you want to watch it and I will keep this thread up as well. I also have another one that won't be a frame off but still pretty extensive which will get done about the same time as this one.

Yes please mate, I'd like to see it.

Yeah - if it isn't too much trouble & won't drag you back, I'd dig following this one as well, Donnie.

Kind of gives out with the salve in that, though I may not have my own just yet, I can still live vicariously through someone else's work.

Each build is different either due to the condition and needs of the car, model of the car, or the owners wants. This one will be a bit different for me because the body work that has been done was done by a very good shop so there will be no need to go back and redo anything. Should be interesting.

Thanks guy's I'll keep it up as the build goes along. I just didn't want to force anything on anyone. It has been said in the past that this is nothing more than "advertisment" for me and in a way it is but more I just enjoy having a support team. You guy's offer that. I know if I strat to screw something up (everybody does) someone here will tell me.

Neil, I use dry play sand (for kids sandboxes) for the most part shot about 100 PSI. It doesn't distort the metal at that setting and the playsand in mild enough that it doesn't mar it up. I do the blasting outside. I guess in this one's case I will roll it out onto some sheet steel (so the wheels on roll easy), place a tarp under it and collect what I can. As chaep as that stuff is I don't worry about it much.

I did it the same on the Dodge.  Play sand at Home Depot is really cheap and I just ended up sweeping it up and shoveling into areas around my pool that needed some fill.  Otherwise I just put it into the garbage can.  Works great and doesn't hurt the sheetmetal at all.

It was Gwen's car. She has had some life changing events (all for the better) and has decided to fcus herenergy on her Harley and just enjoying life. Now that you mention it I seem to remember her telling me she got the engine from you Mike.

Yea Jay I love the stuff. I have tried some of the differet media and I always end up going back to play sand.

I hate to ask such a stupid question but can a 57 2dr sedan be converted to a christine? If so what needs to be done?

Anything's possible. You should join the International Christine Club and we'll show you a member who converted a '59 coupe into Christine using a '58 four-door for parts, and also converted a four-door into a two-door hardtop. Oh, and we have another member converting a two-door sedan into a hardtop!

Well she made it safe and sound today. The only glitch was the fact that the shipper showed up in a tandem 80' enclosed trailer set up (two 40' trailers together) but we overcame it.

There are so many parts that I only got to inventory about half of them today and I'll do the rest tomorrow.

Here is the list that may or may not go along with the pictures but I will try to note anything that is not pictured or something that may need replaced.
I'm listing it as it was unpacked and inspected.

New fuel sending unit
Licence plate (CA 1963) and brackets for the front
Radio guts
Clock adjustment cable
Cig lighter housing
1957 model eyebrow trim (we need 58 model)
Misc. hardware
Recovered arm rests
Rechromed wing window frames
Lower horn ring
1 Carter AFB and kit parts
Brake vacc tank (needs replaced)
Rebuilt brake bellows
Padded sunvisors
Chrome valve covers (should clean up)
Bellows bracket
Rechromed rear bumper lower
Rechromed door and interior quarter trim
Starter and double fan pulley
Rechromed window frames
1 fin ridge cap
upper windshield stainless
2 ribbed roof rail stainless pre polished
4 slightly damaged roof rail stainless (not pictured)
4 Rechromed bumper wings
2 polished scuff plates
Original dual 4 Carter WCFB's (one has a broken air bleed tube) with linkage
Rechromed front and rear bumpers
Misc. minor mechanical parts
5 hubcaps (one slightly damaged)
Dash stainless strip, ash try, (not pictured)
Torqueflite shifter buttons and bezel
Grill "V"
New Christine Mirrors
New oval breathers
various small rechromed parts
Rechromed fender spears, horn ring center, radio bezel, dome light bezels,
Restored gauges
Rawa Sport tone inserts
'58 Grill
Powerflite Transmission
Various exterior stainless trim all polished
Hood lip trim
New carpet
1 fin tip
package tray and vinyl to cover it
Newly covered seats
Sport tone stainless
sublist: 2 upper front fender strips (need one for the passenger side), 2 door upper strips (need one for the passenger side), 2 quarter panel strips, 1 drivers side lower, upsweeps and elbows.

Anything I have listed as "needed" don't mark off yet as I may find others tomorrow when I go through all that is inside the car. By the end of this day I just ran out of steam.

Wow, I can't believe that trailer full of goodies. Did it feel like christmas when unpacking that stuff? Maybe not, since you are used to receiving that kind of stuff on a more regular basis?

Donnie.
Is this how the new owner bought his car? With all these parts seperated and restored already? What a way to go! Sure would make a restoration a lot easier if someone else has already done a lot of the expensive hard work like that. I realize that there is still a lot of work to do, and probably a lot of parts still missing too, but a lot of it sure looks good to go too. I envy you getting to put this together.
Good luck.
Glenn.

Thanks Glenn. Yea Geoff (billy-whiz) bought this car as you see it so it will be pretty easy. I know the girl that owned this car before very well and she loved it. She is also a very picky person who would want nothing but the best. However some changes in her personal life forced the sale. The shop that was doing the body work was a good one and from what I see there is no problems with the work already done. I will make sure of that or I wouldn't be able to sleep at night once this car goes to the UK if I didn't.

Here is the list from what was inside the car.

Window mechanisms
Complete 58 front valance
Pair of splash pans
'58 dash shell
Gas door
Fuel filler tubes
'57 headlight buckets and bezels
Partial wiring harness
Wiper motor and arms
Pair of '57 taillights
Rear licence plate and bracket
2 pair of 58 Headlight buckets and bezels
1 Interior roof rail moulding (We are short one)
Misc. Latches and body plugs
Restored radiator
Bumper hardware
Interor mirror
NOS tail light lens pair
2 pair of '58 taillight housings
Tail panel trim
Glove box door
Misc. dash parts
Extra '58 rear bumper lower
Real lower valance pair
Gas filler tube housing
'57 grill
Bumper brackets
1 gas tank strap
New door panels and rear quarter uppers
Pair of '58 A post stainless
Wiper arms
'57 Tail light stainless
2 pair of both A&B post interior trim (needs rechromed)
Windshield and rear window stainless
Lower grill stainless
Dash stainless
Cowl vent stainless
All of the upper and lower Sport tone stainless except for the quarter panels, That just leaves us need a passenger side lower strip)

Not pictured (battery went dead)

Glass as follows

1 Rear window clear
1 Rear window Solex
1 front side window clear
1 rear side window clear
A full set of 4 side windows Solex
1 Windshield Solex

Interior windshield and rear window top moulding (needs rechromed)
Pair of fin ridge caps
Front seat tracks
Pair of headliner bows
Pair of '58 fin tip stainless
Battery tray.
1 New rebuilt Poly 318 with dual 4bbl intake

Then yours will come off the frame and the party starts.

Hi Geoff (Billy-Whizz) finally getting to check in after forgetting my password!!

I ahve been looking for the right project and right builder for a while now and am glad to have landed a decent car and a good builder. I am not Mr Money-bags and this project fits the bill nicely. It is intended to be a present for my 50th birthday in October 2010. Donnie & Doobster have been a great help in finding my dream car.

I might have to rely on some of you guys out there to help find the odd part I need, and will happily trade if I have spares of use to other members. Exciting times ahead for me, but it's Donnie who has all the fun!!! LOL

This one just came in the shop and it’s going to be what I like to call an “Easy kill” I know the history of this car and the previous owner. The work already done has been done well so we are not going to undo all of that by re-stripping the quarters and roof. It has had extensive sheet metal work done including but not limited to floors, trunk floor, rockers, and lower quarters.
Again, this one will move fast.

This one is going to get color soon. Due to time and shop space I’m going to paint the body before I do the undercoating and remove it from the frame. This would only work with a car that needs no panel replacement.
She’s slick as a ribbon.

I'd have to say in the re-pop market R-Car is the best but honestly before I would go re-pro anything I would search the world over for good original. Reaon being is because nothing will ever have the fit and finish or a stock panel.
Check with John Fowlie "big M" on here and see if he can't hep you.

This car has had a solid one section floor from the fire wall to the tail panel and rocker to rocker and it came from him.

Thanks

Roof painted and the main body will be red as soon as we finish drilling the holes for the sport tone.

What color did you use? We are having a discussion about this over on another site.

The REAL Christine color is Hot Hues Scarlett Fever. Don't let anyone fool you. They weren't in the movie.

Mr. King personally pissed in my gallon of paint and all the movie stars signed my paint can, MINE is the correct shade!!

Donnie, how many coats of the white and red base coat do you put on and how many coats of clear do you put on the white and red?  It really comes out looking great man!

I used "Christine" Early 80's "Spectra Red" Some will tell you that Chrstine had two colors used and if they tell you that that are simply wrong. Over on our club site we have a thread with well over 100 dfferent pictures from the movie as well as pictures of our own cars and you can clearly see that "Sectra Red" is the only color used. If they tell you that BS about it being two colors, one for when she was being evil and one when she was not, ask them for proff of that.

Anyway, on the coats I did about two coats of white because it covers real well (all your after is even color) andon the red I did 3 plus added a few drops of the base to the first of 4 coats of clear. That's something an old body man talked me into doing and I've done it ever since.

Well I have a truckload of stuff that John (big m) is waiting on me to inventory for him that all came from one customer's 3 parts cars and some of the stuff the owners who are also International Christine Club members also, sell them either for personal gain or to donate to the club. I personally keep nothing as I have way to much stuff I don't need already
