I thought I would share some pictures of my recently competed rebuild 270 Hemi. It has been bored .30 over with a Isky regind on the cam. Added a Polishied Offy tri-power manifold and three Holley 94s. I was going to put block hugger headers but they dumped right over the tie-rod and could not get the bend to connect to the pipes. So I hope sometime in the future to have custom made headers done. I lowered the front about 2" using spacers on the lower A-arms and used 1" lowering blocks in the rear. My future plans are a modern overdrive trans to replace the Powerflite along with a later rearend to allow the use of a parking brake and better rear brakes. I want to tie in a front under dash A/C,heat & defrost unit to work with the rear Classic Auto Air system I already have.

Location: Simi Valley, CA | The orignal color was all Black. I considered doing it in triTone Heather Rose, Black and White like my first car, but left it Black when I read that the designer Maury Baldwin wanted Solid colors but Chrysler managment wanted twoTones & Tritones to promote the new style. Here are a couple of interior pictures shot a couple of years ago(it doesn't look as good now since I drive it everyday). The hubcaps are the option spinners that were available along with wire wheels. I believe it was a factory heater delete and a small box style heater was installed at the dealer.

Location: Tampa, Fla. | That '55 is one of the best I've ever seen. It might just sway me from my '56 preference. We need some more info about your A/C set up. Did you make the compressor brackets or are they modified out of some other engine. Detailed pics would be great. |

Got some major curiosity here, though - what were the particulars on switching that '55 to 12V electric? See, what you've done (with the A/C as well) is exactly what I want to do if/when I eventually get the 1955 DeSoto Fireflite Coronado into my driveway.
What kind of gauge issues did you run into with the switch? Is the generator (from a '56?) powerful/durable enough to sustain the A/C? Was a new wiring harness available or did you have to have one custom made? Stuff like that..... |

Location: Simi Valley, CA | Thank you all for all the nice words. As far as the 6v to 12v conversion goes I bought the booklet offered in the Speedway catalog(has a 12v bulb conversion chart too!). Plus since the 56 Dodge was 12v I took a generator from a 56 Imperial that had the powersteering pump on it to allow me to hookup my powersteering. Bought a 12v regulator for a 56 Dodge at NAPA. The A/C was from Classic Auto Air which they offer a mount for the compressor that mounts to a orignial A/C mount from a Chrysler, Imperial, Desoto or Dodge Hemi. The only thing I had to do was to drill & tap the holes in the top of water pump housing(bosses where the A/C mount holes would have been to attach the factory mount). Hope all this helps! |

Thanks for the quick reply - my apologies for the late reply, as I'm a bit under the weather today.
So, you were able to convert to 12V using existing wiring and gauges, or did you have to change/rebuild the gauges & wiring?
Are you using actual generator guts in the genie case, or did you have it rebuilt with alternator guts? My big issue there is, I want to switch to alternator, but, with the power steering pump being run by the same pulley, I'd have to have alternator guts put into the genie case (also, as you well know, after the A/C compressor is mounted, there really isn't space on the passenger side to mount an alternator). Reason being, I just don't trust generators - especially with my plans for modern A/C identical to your set-up.
Are you using a fan clutch for the A/C or is it electric? Yet another A/C concern for me..... |

Location: Simi Valley, CA | I put a complete new wiring loom in the car, the gauges are stock using the "Runt" resistors the booket I mentioned suggested(available in the Speedway catalog). So far I have had no problem using the 12v generator from a 56 Imperial to handell the load from my AM/FM CD player and A/C. |

Aivar brought his 58 Regal Lancer, , had He not, I think this car would have won "Best In Class"
It is a beauty, still looks pretty stock, but due to someupdates, car is a reliable daily driver--probably prowling around looking for 55 chebbies to feast on?
