Location: The Mile High City | I just received a copy of the punch card for my 1958 Dodge Coronet. Unfortunately, Chrysler did not provide a decode of the punch card. Luckily, I have friends here on the forwardlook that may be up to the task!

It was built on April 18, 1958 and it has the 325 engine. I know it is a mint green and egshell white convertible in the deluxe two-tone style. The interior is gone and I have no idea what options it may have had. Am I right to assume it had the torqueflite three speed transmission, power steering, power brakes, airfoam front seat, hood ornaments, undercoating and solex on all windows? Does anyone know what the other codes mean? Did this car have standard wheel covers and a standard steering wheel? I think it must have had the fancy Coronet interior, because I don't think Dodge made convertibles with the standard Coronet interior?
I do not have the firewall tag for this car, so I am hoping to have one made based on the punch card. The only thing Chrysler decoded for me was the dealer number. 54800 was the Albany Garage, Inc. in Albany, NY! I don't know why I was surprised that it came from New York, but I was all the same.
Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Location: bishop, ca | Starting at the end, first, NAH; the Coro convies did NOT have the Custom Coronet interiors---your car's front
seat should be a straight-across-topped one, and not 'notched' in the middle, right?
At least, that's less Mylar to worry about ordering, from SMS (lol)...
I may be getting that green/red color blindness, or, maybe its the monitor screen??????
The convertible top color is white, to compliment its Minty-green and Eggshell-white body colors.
The car's tires were five (the spare was included) 8.00x14" Rayon BLACK-walls, which were standard , on the Coro convertibles,
and standard on all Custom Royal models, too.
Your car was 'serviced' at the factory for immediate drivability, but, it was delivered to the dealership by Truck (and
not by air-mail, which cost more to effect)---'your' dealer (the Historical Society DID confirm its I.D,. to you, right?)
was apparently in some hurry to receive your car, for immediate customer delivery.
I HOPE that your dealership was located close to the factory, as your car also got the :"Wash and Wipe" treatment!!!!
I've never seen that option-service indicated, before (and, YOU are painting THAT car in RED????)--it was WASHED
and wiped-down, at the factory, for crying-out-loud!!!---some customer REALLY wanted that Mint Green and Eggshell
convertible, that you are now 'restoring'....in red???
Its wheelcovers are the standard 'vaned/veined' ones, on the black background, not spinners.
But, you DO have that wonderful GREEN/Ivory 2-tone steering wheel.
Mike, please go check out that 3"x3" flat-area, on the pasenger's-front side of the differential carrier housing--you might
just have a 3.15 rear axle ratio--and that IS somewhat rare!
You may/will have to remove grunge/rust from that flat-area to see the light-stamping number on that area, but, it IS there!
As far as your car's windows are concerned, the coding confirms tinted and shaded only on the windshield (a "7" would
have confirmed tinting on the side glass, too).
Nextly, we see that your GREEN/White car has the Convenience Group of options, including foam REAR seat, v/speed wipers,
Jiffy Jet, hand brake, map, glove box, and trunk lights, AND, the VANITY mirror (always a good thing to have , on a MINTY-Green
car!)
Then, there is the indispensable TRACKING number: (which means nothing, to us).
FINALLY--and here comes the important thing: in exchange for your Undying Love and Devotion (and, of course,
having the car be painted in its OEM Misty Green & Eggshell----) I can and will design your car's P/T plate from its IBM
numbers.
You can send 'my' document to AG Back East, with my blessing, along with whatever dinero they want to receive FROM
you---I don't think that they care much about your U.-L. & D. .....
So PM me your mailing address, and your blood-oath about not changing the P/T plate's PAINT coding(!!!)---to quote
R. Nixon: "That WOULD be wrong...".

That is a ton of great information! As you can see, the interior is pretty much gone - so I had no idea what options were included in there. I will have to check the seat and see if it has a dip. I have a lot of different numbers to check on this car, but I will check the differential.
I had thought AG would not create a cowl tag to order, under any circumstances! I had assumed that I would have to send a copy of the punch card along with the request so he could put it all together...
but maybe you can "special order"? Nah! That would undermine the whole hobby! I wouldn't do it anyway.
I AM thinking about making this car a spring special with the saddle scheme rather than the deluxe scheme. I would paint the lower part eggshell, the upper part mint or "misty" green and the top would remain white. I would probably also add the sweep mouldings if I go that route.
So this car probably also had a light green and ivory interior? |

Location: bishop, ca | No, AG Back East merely wants to be assured that they are not forging some car's provenance, and, they do not
know precisely how a 56(+) car's P/T plate is to be coded, numerically.
They need to receive MORE than just a B-Sheet, and/or an IBM card copy, as they do not know where the proper
option codes should appear on a P/T plate.
Your car's Paint code : 3XEX pertains to the "Deluxe 2-Tone"---the 'saddle Trim's" have a "4" as a prefix on them---OH, you want to
CHANGE the color scheme.
Since you now have the IBM Birth Certificate, it will continue to show you, and subsequent owners, how the car was built and optioned.
Yeah, the "121" TRM code is for 'Green' interior motif---don't think that I've ever-yet seen a green-Coro interior, though.
My completed Registration form will show A-G-B-E precisely how to stamp your car's OEM P/T plate, for you.
MIKE; if you don't want to post a pic of your IBM card copy, pls PM me with it--got a couple questions
about some other features on your car.

Location: The Mile High City | I'll get it to you Neil. It puzzles me that AG does not excercise more control over the production of a replacement P/T plate. Even if I did change the paint scheme, I would never change the P/T plate; after all, at some point, someone might want to change it back the way it is supposed to be! |

Location: bishop, ca | A-G-B-E (...in Denver???) wants to restore(re-create) P/T plates based upon existing crappy-condition examples.
If you asked them to re-pop a 300, they couldn't do that, because they don't know how those P/T plates are arranged,
numerically.
Very (very-) few people know how a FWDLK'er P/T plate should be stamped, accurately, to recreate a missing/unknown P/T plate
on/for an individual car, as the order-sequence of options and equipment, on the P/T plates do not align sequentially with
the info-numbers on the Broadcast Sheets &/or IBM card copies.
In fact, the options coding, on the (Dodge) P/T plates is rather random-hap-hazard, in sequencing, and varies among the various
years' P/T plates.
The Registration form that I'll send you will show A-G-B-E precisely where/how to stamp your car's new P/T plate, to replicate the build,
and the options, info which is contained on your IBM card .

Location: bishop, ca | On the PAINT code: 3XEX, it looks like the coding for that 4-digit number may be 3-07-5-07...corresponding to:
3- X-E-X,
...with the "X" being identified by "07"; this may have some real bearing on Frederic's Imperial's paint coding, too.
