Guess What this is (Year and make of car)
You get an "A+" if you guess looking at only the first picture
You get a "A" if you havta go to the 2nd picture
You get a "B" if you had to go to 3rd picture
You get a "C" if you had to go to 4th Picture
You get a "D" if you had to go to 5th picture

If You look at all 6 pictures and still don't know?------- Then
You must be a Plymouth man

A bronze fin with a Lancer emblem?

Gary, any lover of the 1958 Dodge Regal Lancer would consider that akin to Rita Hayworth hinting at early morning dew.

I would add that it's a Spring Special as well, or at least has the optional fin end caps.

The seats were correctly stitched-together and clear-covered by our local auto upholstery shop, in Bishop.

The car either had the Spring Special end-of-fin-caps installed at the factory, or at/by the selling dealership---
probably at the factory, however.

The car has every OEM option except the "Bumper Group" option, and the "Super D500" option.

It is rumored to have been displayed in a SoFla car show/exhibit or display, when it was new.

One thing I am not sure about - are the Regal Lancers considered a sub series / trim option of Custom Royal or were they registered as a separate series ? And, Neil what's the Super
D-500 option ? This one already has dual quads.

Ian, I had read somewhere that they were a sub-series of the Custom Royal. However, I think they were broken out separately in the production number talleys from Chrysler.

You know? The Regal Lancer's production, while accounted-for at/by Dodge, was not a separate model by virtue of either
a different Model Number [ LD3(-H) ], or a different Body code (362) from the other Custom Royal 2-dr hardtops.

The Regals do, however, have unique paint schemes (an initial "5", followed by variations of X/S/A) and a unique
interior code (277---copper/black).

The 58 Dodge's P/T plate confirms whether a car was built (or not) as a single-4 D500, or a dual-carb Super D500, or
a Fuel Injected Super D500.

This car is coded as being a single-4 D500.

I'll PM Mike with a so-so/but-OK-quality photo of one of the (PRIMARY, really, due to its extreme rarity) tell-tales for confirming
whether a 58-59 MoPar was built with OEM dual 4 barrel carburetors: the passenger-side exhaust manifold, with the
unique asbestos heat cross-over pipe's mounting boss on it.

There's lotsa other tell-tales, like fuel lines and those pesky carb brass tags, but the first/easiest way to look for OEM-ness
is to check out that passenger-side exhaust manifold (and, the appearance of the fuel lines and fuel filter(s)....

Also: OEM steel fuel lines, coming up from the fuel pump, are NOT things of beauty, to observe---LOLOLOL...

A lot of times, the fuel lines that you see on 're-created' cars ARE quite nice, and uniformly bent/shaped;
OEM fuel lines look like ones that EYE probably woulda HAND-bent, on a late Friday nite, back at 'school'....if you get
my drift. ("..Dere; ....houuuuse thisss one look, to yaaa..")

Can you post its P/T plate information, on our Fender Tag Decoding message board, Chad?

Here's a pic of the right side of the engine, showing the carbs and the insulated line.
Also note how the heater/ac blower is insulated to make sure the AC blows like--

The NADA(used car books) listed them as a model, not an option ie D500 or a/c. Here we go again on the wheels but as I remember the wheels were white gray center on full wheel cover cars.
The bronze wheel looks aok. LOVE the convert colors. The new Regal in our town was the colors of the one the lady is sitting in. Ah, the joy clear plastic seat covers!

2)TRIVIA name at least 5 things unique to the 58 REGAL

This Regal's present owner has done a very nice job of finding and installing a correct Super-D500 (or Fury, or Adventurer
or 300E) exhaust manifold onto his car.

Since Gary has posted its engine compartment's present condition, I feel compelled to produce a photo of the engine
compartment , in its as-bought condition.

When the photo gets posted, please notice the OEM Non-Super exhaust manifold, the crude re-bending of the single-4's fuel line,
the rubber-fuel-line extension, to the front carb, and the apparently newly-formed steel fuel line running to the rear carb,.

Again, this photo will merely show the engine's condition when it was sold 'out' of Florida, around 1990, to its present owner.

This 'modification' is one of the reasons that I don't tell people how to get their car's P/T plates be re-stamped, to create a Fury/300/
Adventurer/D500/D501/convertible/etcetcetc... out of something else.

He's replaced the draft tube with a PCV or vacuum line that goes to the carb base or manifold. The breather on the other side is stock.

58's with factory AC have that foam insulated blower housing from the factory.

I'm not exactly clear what you are talking about Neil. I see the photo Gary posted of the engine compartment in its current state. The photo you are talking about, is it the one directly above your post? That one does not seem to match the descriptions you are giving, are we still waiting for another photo?

AH; all is revealed, now; thanks, Mike.

The above photograph shows this Regal's engine/compartment in its as-bought condition, around 1990-ish.

Note the remaining impression-image of where the former duct(?) tape had held the Jiffy Jet line, and the appearance of the
heater/A-C blower housing, plus the other features in common, between the above photograph, and Gary's digital
image.

The above nasty-but-OEM-condition engine compartment photo was taken at Bo Malefor's resto-place, in Phoenix,
around 1990, too, and it shows a correct Super-D set up on one of his two real 58 CRL's that he had at his place, then.

Going back to Gerry Schram's brain teasers, above, the Regals certainly WERE de-facto unique "models" if any car
ever physically qualified for being one; the factory, however, did not assign any special-unique numbers-letters to
designate the existence of a Regal Lancer, as it did for the Coros/Roys/CRLs; even the station wagons (IIRC) shared the generic
low/mid/high model classifications, along with those three 'car' models. You have to look 'into' the BDY and TRM codings to confirm
the existence of a station wagon. e.g. .

So, YES; the Regals were a unique "model", except for the fact that they were not officially VIN-or-body-number coded or documented
as being a 'model' (except by their TRM and PNT codings; not EVEN by their BDY codes, which are the same as for the Custom Royal
2-dr hardtops).

I know that the Regals were 'mid-year' additions, but, the Broadcast Sheets and IBM card copies do not include any unique
"Regal Lancer" option codes in their 'body' of option-itemizations-boxes, because all of the Regals' trim pieces were standard and
unique only to that 'model'.

Officially, the Regals' bronze color was "Turbine Bronze", iirc...

And, yeah; the wheels are supposed to be painted in factory-standard eggshell white; not color-coded to the bronze or the black.

Five (ok: four;) unique features :

Body trim
Body colors
Interior trim
Interior colors

The engines/drivelines were OEM Dodge.

The many individual trim-items, applicable only to the Regal Lancers, are listed over on the Craigslist Message Board's thread, which is
dedicated to the Regal Lancers.

The headliner was a spongy material as oppsed to the "hard", Neil will have the correct term. As a lad I used to clean cars at the car lot. Everybody smoked so, the headliners were heavily stained yellow from smoke. I remember scrubbing many hdtp & wagon with the crappy liquified smoke dripping on me. I don't remeber what sedans had.

Now the color combiations??

It's called "Accoustifoam" and it appeared in/on Mopars after 1958.

I know of a 61 Phoenix 2-dr HT with that 'stuff' on it; it is red colored.

That material was also known to dandruff-down onto the car's occupants, as it became petrified (there's a mixed metaphor!)
from prolonged heat exposure, or when it was scratched or contacted by someone who would be checking out what that stuff
was, on the headliner...

Regal restorers can install bronze colored vinyl as the headliner material; looks good, there.
