Probably the fine neighborhood they grew up in or something.

I 'hate' these creampuffed painted-to-sell kinda cars.
Just look at the pukeful untouched state of that engine bay... not to mention the mutilated aircleaner unit.

Is the headliner OEM-correct?

Are the trunk liners OEM-correct ("flocked")?

Depending on the purchase price (maybe the seller will discount it, if the wheels are LEFT at his shop?) this car is very
restorable, and drivable---but, not with those wheels on it!

I'll ask him what discount he'll provide if the wheels do NOT 'go' with the car.

Well, the auction ended, with a high bid of $13K (Reserve not met), but, the seller wrote to say that he'd
deduct $750.00 from the selling price if the buyer did not want the Bling-Wheels/tires, and, that the OEM wheels
and wheelcovers still exist and can be included in the transaction, but, the tires that are on the OEM wheels, now,
are reportedly in poor condition.

The Blingers probably cost a lot more to buy-and-mount than the $750.00 discount that's being offered on them
by the seller.

Boy, you guys just don't quit. That car is a knockout, and it was undoubtably built to please the owner, not you who find fault with every car that shows up on this site. I for one would love to own it just as it is--it looks great, wheels and all. You "purists" don't have a lock on what is allowable on others cars, and guess what? Many of us like some of these non-stock/non original creations. Not everyone shares your point of view..can't you just appreciate a car for what it is for once?

Most times I see these wheels is on pimp wagons driven by guys going downtown on intent-to-distribute charges. They are popular in certain sections of town, where the houses are worth less than the cars parked on what once was a lawn. In an effort to maintain professionalism, I call this attraction to shiny "compensation" ..... Ghetto. Since this sort of bling largely symbolizes dead-end lives with no Dad in the house, prison time, drug use, prostitution, and all the accoutrements of a lifeof bad choices and poverty .... I guess I am moved to ask "WTF?"

Purists or not, glorifying or even giving the nod to this sort of thing is in bad taste at best, and just plain scumminess at worst. You can call it "independent thinking" like the home boyz do. Maybe you can get you some good gang tatz too, and kill a rival for some street credz while you at it, yo.

Wut up wit dat ?

The car is great. The image is one of abject poverty and some lame attempt at making the "ghetto" seem like it has soul.

Go spend some time in the hood and if you manage to not get shot just for being Wonder Bread, let us know how that scene really looks.

Man, Doc, you got some hang ups? I happen to like large wheels and I don't live in the ghetto or deal drugs and I sure as hell ain't no homeboy. I think this car shows bling and class and I like it. I drive a new Cadillac Escalade with 22" factory installed wheels, and all of my cars have chrome wheels per factory choice. Don't label me with your "cop" stereotypes just because something as trite as bling wheels are on my "cool" list!

That would be an encouraging remark to press forward.

Explaining how those wheels translate to the real world is going to be lost on the guy who only sees them from an Escalade perspective. So, I see a lot of wasted key strokes trying to make someone understand how something so outside their paradigm works and will just give up and facetiously suggest you just go ahead and see it your way. That is what truly matters.

Peace in our time - Chamberlain.

So it would be better if I put standard, steel, 14" wheels with hubcaps on all of my cars just so I don't enter the scum-buckets of society club? Good god doc, my viewpoints are probably to the right of Atilla the Hun--are we in the same universe? If the wheels on a car define everything you need to know about the owner, you truly have a rare gift!!

Not a bad looking car except for the crappy wheels on it, those 99" rims dont go with a FL car, too bad the engine bay looks like oscar the grouches garbage dump..... need to finish the engine and put the factory rims and wheels covers back on and that car would be alot nicer.

Some cars lend themselves to "Pimp" wheels very well and some don't....When you try to mix the two that don't, you end up with people that don't like it much.....

Now, if say a new Challenger had a set of even 16" wheels on it, it would look like Sh*t as the fenders are just too big.....

Let me be clear, the car itself is great. I am only speaking to the wheels .....

If 99% of the public interested in those wheels wears their pants halfway down their thighs, has never filled out a W-2, and will likely spend the majority of their life in prison, does that mean that the 1% that falls outside that description overrules ?

What I am talking about is image here, and the image of those wheels goes closely hand in hand with all that ghetto crap. Sorry to break the news, but that is just how it is. Now, if you like that, ... I guess you are entitled. I just see it through the prism of how it plays on the streets, be it on a stolen Escalade or those wheels on a 92 Caprice or Lexus. Poverty and parasitic criminal culture. I just can't see glorifying that stuff in any way.

.... and it takes no "gift" to see the world for how it really plays out if you keep your eyes open. I don't like it. But reality is what it is.

Doc, I don't want to perpetuate this silly discussion, but does the term "profiling" mean anything to you? I agree that these wheels are often associated with "bad dudes", but somehow, they have found their way into mainstream car applications, and are very common on today's new cars. They are no longer confined to just the bad boys. Whether or not they look good on an FL car is a matter of personal taste, but if you just hate blingy wheels, you're going to find yourself arresting a lot of us old gray haired farts and a lot of the general car buying public.
Toward your side, though, it never ceases to amaze me to see some kid in a tire shop putting $5000 worth of wheels and tires on his $2000 car while the wife and kids wait looking starved to death!

"Pimp", or "Bling Bling" wheels got their start from the ever increasing, next new thing out, like the Fame the Hemi has enjoyed for the past 30 years...It's all about competing to be the biggest, shiniest, tallest, fastest, around...TV/Movie cars are no exception...The "Generic" public has adopted this on what's caleld "Donks" nowadays because of this...Everything that could be done with "Good taste", and is cool, has been done...So, the "Generic" public begins to try and create NEW "Cool" ways of expression and as I've stated before, The younger, "Pimp" generation thinks it looks good, so Majority rules in life it would seem..While one individual disagrees with say one other person, you have a stalemate, but if either one of the sides begins to pick up supporters, then "Majority rule" begins to take effect....Doc. everybody here knows what you are trying to say but of course, their will inevidably be supporters that even though they think those stupid ass wheels on a vehicle look rediculous they will support the opposite just to be contrary....I fully think that these "kids" with those huge wheels on their cars do it in fact, simply to piss off the older generation that think it looks like sh*t..The newer cars are being sold to "Joe Blow" and "Joe blow's Soccer Mom" with those big wheels on 'em and when it comes time to replace those HUGE tires, the first thing that "Soccer Mom" wants to scream is "I had NO IDEA these tires were that much! Why wasn't I told about this when I bought it??" The answer is simple...because you wouldn't have bought it and whatever is selling even IF it has expensive wheels on it, is the "Majorities" rule....

Welcome to Dukeboy's world Doc..I've been fightin this on the forums for over 6 years for having an opinion that is clearly different from the "Majority", hense the "Clicks" I keep refering to....

Yeah, ... and where did that punk get that 5G to drop on those wheels ?

OK, ... so it is a personal taste decision. And that is how I phrased it in the first post. Frankly, I don't like anything coming out of the ghetto strictly on principle. The clothes, the music, the crime, the utter disregard for life ... I do not want to be associated with that in any way. It is not cool, it is not hip, and it symbolizes the stark contrast between the hopeless nature of a parasitic world and some flashy chrome doo-dad that really is of no consequence in the bigger picture of how it came to be. White bread golfers can co-opt the look, but it does not change the nature of the beast, and in this schmuck's opinion, only makes the golf club set look naive and/or stupid. Why not do the sag and chains too ? It's all the same "cool".

You bet I profile. I am not interested in taking stupid bullets for being PC. I see what looks like a turd, I treat it like a turd. If Grandma Pittipoo is packing a nine on the front seat, she gets "profiled" too ! F#@k all these crybabies and their "evil profiling" propagandaspeak. Toss their whiny butts out into the real world and let's see how long they last ! They will be the first to have their heads skewered on a stake. And the guy doing the skewering will be the same one they were supposedly "protecting" from being "profiled".

I just love the way stupid people will stand there with total commitment and tell you that the alligator they have on a chain is, in fact, a soft and cuddly kitten. Sorry, no profiling necessary.

I do other things like profiling too .... I carry armor piercing rounds AND tactical rounds. I stay aware of my surroundings. I train in both defensive tactics and offensive tactics. Why ? So people who want to cry about profiling can retain the right to the free speech that allows them to do so.

Ironic, isn't it ?

Wow, I hate long debates on the subject of Bling wheels, but strangly enough, I can't stop....Ever wonder why a HUGE REAR wing on say a 1970 Superbird, or a Daytona is accepted as "Cool" and yet, one installed on say a 1960 Dodge, or a 1998 Mitsubishi isn't?

Or why HUGE wheels on say a 2008 Dodge Ram is accepted and the same wheels on a 1959 Chrysler isn't?
Why is a MONSTROUS Hemi hood scoop accepted on a 1968 Dodge Hemi Dart, but not on a 1960 Plymouth?

Why are LOUD ass Glasspacks are accepted on say a 1958 Plymouth, but not on a 1994 Honda Civic?

Why is an early Hemi in say a 1932 Ford accepted, but say a 350 SBC engine in a 1932 Plymouth is not?

Dukie -

Your "box boy" avatar is funny as h*ll !

A couple days ago Spokane had yet another gun involved incident. We have had a sharp rise in this over the last 90 days for some reason ...... two shootings AT police officers. This one I mention involved a scumbucket and an old man sitting at a red light. The punk opened the passenger door, opened fire, then shoved the shot old man out the driver's door onto the pavement. For whatever reason the car engine got shut off in the mix and the punk could not get it started, so took off on foot, only to be picked up a short while later hiding in a dog house. It might give some "relief" to know this happened over in some dark part of town, but it didn't. It was close to downtown on one of our busiest thoroughfares. It could have been anybody sitting at that light, Country Clubbers or your neighbor's 16 year-old daughter.

Maybe is is just me and MY town ( I think not ), but it blows my mind how little separates the animals from the world from the rest of us. But as you so adeptly pointed out, as the "numb" middlegrounders become more and more accepting of the crap, the more we all slide toward an inevitable anarchy that will destroy us all.

I have nothing to argue here. This is just the real world. If people like to tell themselves it is all fine in THEIR neighborhood and that stuff only happens to THOSE people, so be it. I see a LOT of the promised "CHANGE" coming, and it does not bode well for the America my grandparents knew. It is disheartening to see people mitigate and whitewash the problems. Denying them only gives the problem time to get bigger.

Oh, .... by the way, that word is spelled "clique" in that usage.

****************************

I am going to choose my battles and most of the above doesn't even register here. I really could not give a rip in the bigger scheme of things even about the bling wheels, but basic Academy 101 told us to call out a bad behavior or call WHEN you see it, .... or it becomes an accepted pattern .... the saying goes: You see it, you own it.

Having said my peace, I am moved to Position A, where people are free to make their own choices.

Afterall, even such a debate is the basis of the freedom we work for, right ?

Good analogy. I see those wheels as the "hot thing" over on that side of town closest to Hell. I choose to "profile" that image as "going to hell" and steer clear of even giving a nod to such notions.

Oh yeah, and I made my last three rapidfire marksman exams with 15 for 15 in the pie plate at 25 yards.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Let's boogie !
