New User Posts: 4 | Hello, Thought I'd share some photos of my 1955 Dodge that just showed for the first time at the World of Wheels in Milwaukee, WI. It's been 10 long years since I first started the restoration but it's been worth the wait. Love the site and all the cars hope you enjoy mine. Elite Veteran Posts: 907 Location: Magra, Sweden | Welcome home Dan. Congratulations to the beautiful restoration and tasteful upgrade of your 55 Dodge Royal. You've preserved and enhanced all the good things of the original design, I'm impressed! I love the tri-tone colors and the clean brightwork with the bumper guards removed. The Custom Royal fins and grille teeth add to the overall appearance. Do you still have the 270 Hemi? Is it some kind of triple carburation? Would love to see more pics of your awesome car. Cool to see more 55 Dodges coming onboard.

New User Posts: 4 | Thank you all for the kind words. Yes, it still has the 270 hemi with some upgrades. I replaced the intake manifold with and Offenhauser aluminum 4 bbl and new carb., custom pistons with 10.1 compression and a regrind on the cam. I also upgraded the transmission to a 727 and 8 3/4 rear end with posi and 3.55 gears. Disc brakes from AJJ brakes have been installed all around as well. I've tried to keep a lot of what makes these cars so beautiful and upgrade and enhance to my tastes without ruining the car. My car needed everything so I decide early if I have to replace it, it might as well be to my taste.

Veteran Posts: 141 Location: Simi Valley, CA | Hello, You have a great looking 55 Dodge. I'm considering doing the trans & rear end change to mine as you did. Did you pull the trans & rear end from the same doner car? Also did you modify the supension at all ? Did you fab headers? Post some detail photos of the engine when you can. Once again, Great Looking Dodge!

New User Posts: 4 | The 727 was from an early 70's B body with a small block and I used a trans adapter to bolt it up to the 270 hemi. The original front motor mount was shot so I used Hot Hemi Heads motor mount. Once mounted it moved everything back just a bit and allowed me to leave the original trans support in place and bolt the 727 to a plate welded onto the support. The headers were originally Sanderson block huggers but became custom quickly. I left the suspension stock but used a Flamming river steering box and the original pitman arm unbelievably. A mini high torque starter to boot left little room so we had to start modifying the headers. The rear end was from a late 60's B-body that measured 55" flange to flange and my original rear end was 54 3/4" and completely seized up. The original spring perches from my rear end were removed and welded in the same spot as the old ones on the new rear end and new leaf springs were installed. I've enclosed some pictures. Walter passed away on Jul 29, 2014. We will miss you, Walt! Posts: 5358 Location: Heaven Above (Formerly Oklahoma City,OK) | Hi Dan. Way to go. Looks absolutely beautiful. I hope that my '55 will photograph as well as yours has. What adapter did you use to connect the engine/tranny? You said the rearend was from a late 60's B body. I have to ask if you remember what model it came out of, as I can't tell 'em by the "letter". I still have the tapered axle rearend and I'm considering makeing the change. Uncle Walt

I'm envious of the headers; no torsion bars to contend with. Now, go BITE some Chubbies with it! Welcome aboard. Can you show us how you plumbed in the brake lamp switch to your dual master cylinder system, and, NICE bending work on its plumbing. Edited by d500neil 2010-02-12 8:06 PM
