It does have the 15" wheels and 1956 Dog Dish hubcaps.

Expert Posts: 1295 Location: Nasco , SWEDEN | The Highway Patrol used several makes of cars again in 1960. This Dodge Dart Seneca was probably the rarest of them all. Its chassis and driveline were identical to the 1960 Plymouth. It rode on a 118” wheelbase, was powered by the 305 hp 361 CID V-8, and used the TorqueFlite automatic transmission to send power to the 3.31:1 rear axle. . . One change that made a Minnesota Highway Patrol car stand out from the crowd was the addition of white doors to the maroon paint scheme. Beginning in 1960, the doors were painted white and a new one-piece decal included a maroon background with gold lettering. The unit number, previously displayed on the doors, was relocated to the rear of the car. Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | imopar380 - 2010-05-16 10:10 PM Bill, do you have any idea if any Canadian 1960 Dodges were built with the four-bar spinner wheel covers? The standard non spinner wheel cover on Canadian 60 Dodges, while it looked similar to the US wheel cover, was actually smaller. The US 60 Dodge wheel cover, both standard and spinner types, extended over the edge of the rim to the tire. Canadian wheel covers had the usual half-inch gap on the outside, showing the painted rim. Yup, I'm hung up on all this trivial stuff ;-) I do not recall ever seeing a Canadian 1960 Dodge with the four-bar wheel covers (or 'lugs' as Chrysler called them). The big question here is what the standard Canadian hub caps and the base wheel covers looked like! Both were different from the U.S. Dodges. The Dodge wheel covers I remember were similar to the U.S. but I cannot picture the hubcap. The basic hubcap, standard on all Canadian-built Darts, was part number 1948 162 and was also used by the Canadian Plymouth. The U.S. Dodge hubcap was 1948 163 and Plymouth was 1943 743. The big problem for Canadians in 1960 is that Chrysler of Canada used American illustrations across the board, air brushing where needed (ie, differences that could be noticed). Thus some Dart illustrations show U.S. instrument panels and used U.S. wheel covers, including the deluxe style. The base wheel cover was part number 1940 831 in the U.S. and was optional on all U.S. Dodges. The Canadian Dodge used part number 2122 412 which was standard on the Polara and optional on all Darts. The U.S. deluxe wheel cover is listed as part number 2122 534 with the comment "with lugs". The "lugs" are listed farther down the list with 16 needed in total for the car. Thus if you damaged a lug or two or more you could purchase a replacement. Attached is a photo of a 1960 Dart Phoenix taken in front of a body shop in Langley a few years back. It had wheel covers on the passenger side and the photo shows the cover from the right front. It looks the U.S. version except the centre portion seems to stick farther out. The U.S. cover does not extend much farther out than the outer edge. Also, the U.S. cover had grooves around the outer section looking like spokes with the depressed area painted black. The Dart cover in the photo has the same theme with black paint, but the 'spokes' are shallower. Both wheel covers use the sides of the centre section to reflect the outer 'spokes'. When the wheel cover is clean and shiny, it looks pretty sharp. Given the problems attaching a "lugged" wheel cover to a Canadian wheel, I suspect Chrysler of Canada used different wheels. And that would also explain why Chrysler of Canada tooled a different base wheel cover. (1960 dodge dart AC-3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1960 dodge dart AC-3.jpg (145KB - 444 downloads)

Expert Posts: 3480 Location: Montreal, Canada | Since we're discussing Dodge police cars, in Canada, some towns used Canadian Dodge models ("Plodges" if you will). This one seems to be a 1957 Dodge Crusader, the lowest model in the Dodge lineup that year:

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Going back up to that huge image of the 59 'cruiser', that is a civilian 'movie' car that is done up to resemble a CHP vehicle. Note its low mounted rear view mirror and its 14" wheels (having the OEM 1959 14" dog-dish hubcaps on them). A real Pursuit will have the upper (header panel-) mounted rear view mirror, and 15" wheels, with the 1956 15" dog-dish hubcaps on them (just as on the MN Pursuit, also seen above here), and, of course, it will not have a Civilian license plate on it. One other thing about this car is its obviously retouched door molding---looks like a molding WAS there, as it is mis-aligned to the quarter panel--when the photo was taken, but WHY the molding was retouched, at the photo-lab, I dunno! S.O.T. posted another photo, of this same car, on another thread around here, which was taken at virtually the same time as 'this' photo, but S.O.T's photo shows a re-touching/re-do of this car's license plate, to try to depict a CA-Exempt license plate being installed on it, and, 'that' car has a generic/fake State-'bug' on its door. I can't recall if 'that' car has a molding on its door, or not, but, it's this same-car (without the pedestrian passing-by, in the background of the photo!) in the same position and with the sun-shadow being identical to that as seen in this photo.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7206 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Bill, in that photo of the Dart 4 posts up , yes that's the standard Canadian wheel cover which looks similar to the US version, but the US version sits right over to the edge of the rim. One other thing, those Canadian 1960 Dodge wheel covers were used on 1963 Chryslers but the centre section was brushed stainless instead of being polished. The New Yorker version had a small round medallion attached on the centre portion. I've also seen the CANADIAN literature stating " 60 Dodge Polara In the Custom Royal Series" I guess because Canadians were used to the upscale Custom Royal since 1955 - an all new name would be a little confusing but its still kind of strange. Expert Posts: 3480 Location: Montreal, Canada | mogge65, thanks for these pics!! That, right there, is probably the most beautiful '57 Dodge I have ever seen. To me, it's perfect! And looking at this example, I think I prefer the Coronet's clean front bumper to the CRL's one with the teeth. Is this your car? Anyway, it's wonderful!

It seems Chrysler Canada got mileage out of their tooling! The 1961 Dart wheel covers were reworked and used on the Canadian 1962 Chrysler Windsors and Saratogas. The Custom Royal was actually a very popular car in the late 1950's. Only twice Between 1935 and 1954 did Chrysler of Canada build over 3,000 American-style Dodges in one year. But 1955 hit 3,650, 7,000 for 1956 and 7,048 for 1957. Then the recession took its toll dropping production to 4,747 for 1958 and dropping again to 4,535 for 1959 due to poor public reception of the styling and build quality. Chrysler of Canada was not doing well after 1956, with production dropping from 1957 and hitting a low point in 1960, although 1962 would be worse. In 1956 2,375 DeSotos and 7,600 Chryslers were built in Canada. By 1958 that was down 1,070 DeSotos and 2,801 Chryslers, although Chrysler rebounded to 5,725 for 1959 with the re-introduction of the true Saratoga. It probably cost Chrysler of Canada a small fortune to completely rework the plant from body and frame construction to unibody for 1960. Completely new bodies, new styling, new slant six engine and a new Valiant. Only DeSoto saw 1960 production rise, to 2,249, while Chrysler dipped to 4,334, and I suspect the biggest disappointment, the Polara with 2,125, down from 4,535. For the first time, more DeSotos were built than big Dodges. And it was the lowest production since 1935, with the exception of 1942 (1,145) and 1946 (712), both short years due to the war. Not surprising, then, that Chrysler of Canada decided to drop both the DeSoto and Dodge Polara for 1961 and replace both makes with the Chrysler. Dodge-DeSoto-Valiant dealers thus became Dodge-Chrysler-Valiant dealers. From a total of 8,708 Polara/DeSoto/Chrysler models in 1960, production of 1961 Chryslers rose to 9,082 and in 1962 became Chrysler Canada's #2 car in production at 10,381 beating out Dodge by 109 units and Plymouth by 264. Valiant was #1 for Chrysler of Canada in 1962. The shrunken 1962 models were a disaster in Canada.

It's attached here for download, and is very informative and thorough. Two errors - typos both. Ian pointed out the Matador is actually PD1-L and not PD1-M at the top of the sheet. It is correct, though, in the serial number decoding. The second is for the Canadian engine numbers. Canadian prefix PV- was used on the 313-cid V8, and not the 318-cid V8. Always miss the simplest mistakes.

Veteran Posts: 119 | Scottsdale 2008, and this '60 Polara D500 (Lot 1252.1) traded hands at B-J for an astonishing $126,500. I don't know who the dealer was, but they also offered a '57 Fireflite (my avatar pic) and a '58 Belvedere cvt. They were all done to the nth degree, and the coral/greyFireflite stopped you dead in your tracks, if the Polara hadn't already done so! Sadly, the DeSoto was already whisked away while the two other FL's were in line to be sold. I'm sure they were noted at the time, but I just wanted to share this bit of nostalgia... Expert 5K+ Posts: 7206 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Since this thread is going again, I'm gonna comment on the beautiful blue 1960 Polara 2 door hardtop a few posts above. Firstly looking at the headliner, the dome light lens is missing, and the outer cardboard panels are ill-fitting and warped. They also appear to be blue. The originals were all a dark greyish brown cardboard, no matter what the interior color scheme. And the center roof inserts on this car appear to be the same cardboard material as the outer panels, which is incorrect. The original insert material was a ribbed foam in a grayish-tan color. Try to get that stuff now....likely impossible, but the easiest and best look-alike replacement for it is a corduroy cloth material, in a similar color which is what I used when I had those panels in my former Polara re-done many years ago. You can pick up that corduroy material at any store that sells cloth by the yard. The outer cardboard panels were fine on mine. As to the shop that did the restoration on this particular car, it was Darrell Dubovsky of Classic Heaven Restorations, in AZ http://www.classicheavenrestorations.com/ Darrell owns at least 2 1960 Dodge Polara / Matadors himself. This is a beautiful car, was built for Jess Ruffalo who passed on shortly after the car was built, and it is definitely not an original D-500. The turn signal lever on this car is also incorrect. The end of it should have a machined aluminum piece that sort of matches the rocket shape of the dash knobs, not a black plastic end like this one has. It it was mine I would have been unhappy with the headliner as it is. Still, the car is an eye-stopper. Edited by imopar380 2011-07-07 2:06 PM

Regular Posts: 74 Location: Falicon 06 France | FOr some Mopars that were imported ( in France also ) they use to put some emblem on them, As you know, in the 60ies that was Simca that imported the Mopar here in France, and they put a V8 emblem on both side of some car ( mine was a 66 New Yorker ). The V8 Emblem was from the Simca Versaille/Chambord off the 50ies... Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Is there any information regarding production numbers of Australian Dodges? I know they came as CKD units. Its interesting seeing the subtle and not so suttle differances in my 60 phoenix compared to what the US ones look like
