So, ... as the sucking progresses, a success in actually getting water back in the
house (yes, I CAN take a hot shower tonight !), I guess this means the suckiness
is waning for the moment.

Only had one leak, where I forgot to sweat a fitting, and a few drips at valves to
tighten up, so that went pretty well. Took me a couple hours to pack all the tools
and BS out and clean all the mess up. If the weather is better, I may take the T
out for a spin just to "take a break". I can get back to the wall repairs and other
suckitude after a few days of slacking ....

Just as an update, I am UN-sucking my life by spending evenings organizing
the shop and preparing to bring the Plaza home. It is overwhelming, but when
an area is finally clear and everything put away, it is a happy feeling.

Gee...nice to know that my region "Sucks"! Never-the-less, can anyone recommend a good local northwest restoration shop for the interior...specifically the front seat. Looks like a previous owner was rather "hefty" and must have worked in a dirty location, since the driver's seat is pretty much imbedded oily black and sunken to a new low.

What's your budget Rabbit B? You could do it yourself, y'know? The shop I am thinking of is over here on the wet side of the mountains. I can get you a number if you'd like.

Glenn Vaughn has an exceptional upholstery shop in Post Falls. His shop
rate was $51hr, which is pretty good too. His reputation is for first class
work is stellar. I will be speaking with them soon and can get a POC, of you
like.

Vaughn & Hill were the best in the business, imagine that Vaughn's work can't be beat, especially at those non-CA rates!

Hot showers are good! Surprised you didn't use PEX, that stuff is great - fast to install, cheaper, and bulletproof. We have in our VT place only 30 miles from Canada and it's totally impervious to freezing, it just expands when it does without splitting like to old plastic stuff. Had it 8 yrs now and never have had a problem when the water goes on in the Spring. IMO it's one product that actually lives up to it's reputation. Good stuff!

Plaza coming home for paint. I will take it back to Vaughn's guys for upholstery.

Pex is great for certain apps. I harbor a pretty deep concern for fire, and PEX
gets a "fail" for fire. Copper can go to something like 4000ยบ with water in it before
it will fail. Running water makes it even more resilient.

Copper has other good working qualities that PEX lacks, such as thermal retention
and stiffness. PEX only bends so far and is a whole bunch "unruly" in making neat
and tidy runs. To most, this is no big deal. To this anal retentive carpenter, it is "a
mess" !!!

OK Guys ! Now I have a good reason to express my feelings about all you guys that think this region sucks ! I purposely posted a bunch of pics on the my Dodge project and only got 2 comments from region members. So where is all the comment participation, good or bad, from all you ' region sucks' members ??????? I'm not trying to start a *issing match here, but complaining without participation doesn't seem fair. Jerry

Obviously I totally missed the humor in all this suck stuff. Guess I was taking all this too seriously. I like a good laugh as much as anyone else, and Doc you are a very funny guy. Personally, I don't think much of a 59 Dodge either, but the wife wanted this car so I was given the task of 'fixing' it for her. I didn't have the heart to tell her this car should be crushed so I accepted the challenge. The body was the only thing that was 59 Dodge so I took it all apart started back up from scratch. And it's a good retirement project ! So,,,,,laugh on,,, guys. Jerry

I dunno, I like the '59. It has it's appeal. They look angry, agressive, very masculine. Furthmore, you still have the things that make any mopar of this era a joy to drive. I would be seen in one, proudly so. A wife that wants a '59 dodge... She just wants a super handsome, super masculine car! Pretty special lady to want a '59. I sure wouldn't complain, not too loudly anyway. As long as she keeps the beer flowing and back rubs coming, keep working. Happy wife, happy life.

Let me tell you what "sucky" means to me ....

It's 1977-8 and my friend Wayne is dragging home all these old, sh!tty convertibles
he's finding around the area. One is a 60 Invicta, and I am so out of touch and a lunatic
dreamer that I think this thing is cool and trade him some junk for it. I was, right then
and there, committing myself to a life of suckitude. And for the next 15 years, I was
told by the multitudes just what an abject loser I was, based on the car they saw me
driving. From dates who refused to be seen in it, to the police who singled both my
brother and me out to harass. Owning, or even having an interest in old cars like ours
is the final word in what determines scum. Just because the world now thinks our pastel
painted garbage scows are cool changes nothing. We are all losers. We all suck. The
sooner we accept these facts, the sooner we can just laugh at the world and their "latest
fashions".

I'd just like to point out a non sucky thing about our region. We don't have to put our cars away for the winter. Now if they would quit preemtively salting the roads I would drive a lot more. With all the transplants moving up here its difficult enough for them to drive in the rain let alone snow. So to protect them they now salt everything, just in case. Pfft sucky!

At last, the time has come to pull the tarps off the 2nd story deck of the shop
and begin the final stage of the framing. Called this AM to special order some
18' 2x12. It rained like hell last night, making me reluctant to pull the tarps off
until the last minute. Summer just deosn't want to come this year. With the
2nd floor and roof framed, I can put a permanent roof on and be "free" of this
albatross. Free to work on finish work as I please, free to work on the cars, free

We finally got some dry, but had a good 15 minute squall again this AM.

Yes, plenty of roller blocking. I love the squareness and straightness of engineered
wood, but I am really trying to keep this place as "organic" looking as possible, and
am using no OSB-type materials anywhere. Just looks too new.

That's Nick Nichols. He owns lots of desirable late fifties cars. He's a cab driver in SF and gets to see what cars are hidden away in garages when he drops folks off. That's how he found many of his cars some years back, Luke.
