Here's a picture that gives some idea of the color, although I realize pictures can bee tricky. The seller described it as a "pale Lavender"... perhaps it's just a badly faded Frosty Tan... I'm pretty sure the car wears original paint... opinions?

Hi Roger !

I think one gess is as good as an other.
When you look at the picture, it can be a faded "frosty tan",
but it can also look "pale lavender".

My advise is look at the ID plate when you get the car, then compere
it to the colors of the year, that should give you the color, unless the car
has been repainted at some point.

I look forward to se some pictures of it when you get it,

Hi Torben and all: she's home all safe, I put pics under "Winnie" on Members Rides. So far cleaned up the engine compartment of stuff & debris left by mice or?, degreased the top of the engine, cleaned all the chrome, the got the carpet & seal belts out and vacuumed the inside, and touched up the floor paint where there was surface rust only, on the F pass side where there was a small window leak. I used zinc cold anodizing paint then enamel. Looking for a few minor trim parts, and picked up a factory Parts List from fast59desoto Jeff.

She was originally Frosty Tan, but apparently painted '59 Iris when still fairly new! Evidence of some old damage on the pass side rear 1/4 so there will need to be body work there, but the rest is fine.

How's the Dartline coming?
And everyone else with Windsors?

Since mine has an "Insert" instead of a "Dartline", maybe I'm an "Inserter" ? ;-)
All the rest of the extra Spring trim is the same: 6 bars on trunk, wide roof trim, and rocker trim. No hood or fender ornaments though.

Hi firedome

I think you are right, you most deffently are an "inserter", I here bay name you "Sir Firedome of Windsor",
knight of the brotherhood of Windsor's, well they said we were crazy, now we just proven it.

Well back to beeing serios.

Abouth the "Spring option", the Hood and fender ornament's, are not a part of that,
after what I know you could buy that at any time, and any model, but they were
a bit different from model to model.
So my "Dartline" don't have neither Hood or fender ornament eighter, but I will
like to have them, maby one day, but it is not on top of my list, when I start to
restore it.

I kinda like that name!

I kind of like mine without the hood and fender ornaments, the lines and the body design is so clean it doesn't need any extra chrome imho. ANd it already has extra chrome along the roof-line, rockers and on the trunk.

Now to choose a paint color - I usually like to keep things all original, but the Frosty Tan/white is kind of boring to me. I love pale purple, but Chrysler didn't offer one in 58. So I may go with colors of the '56 Dodge LaFemme, which is 2 tones of light and medium Orchid Lavender, I think those colors would look really beautiful on this car. AT least they are authentic Mopar colors!

Hi firedome !

I also like things to bee original, but I'm not fanatic,
so if there is an other "color scheme" you like better, go fore it,
those color's of the "LeFemme" are nice, I also like the "Corral scheme",
my "Dartline" is "Cypress Green" but I will like to see it as "Spurce Green",
I'm just lucky that it is a '58 color, even if it was'nt I would like to see it in that color.

I also like the chrome on my "Dartline" as it is, but I would like the Hood ornament,
that is pretty neat, but is is not a must have.

Which model year had the Coral scheme? I love that color as well.

Hood ornament shouldn't be too hard to find, do you have one? If not fast59desoto here knows of several 58 Chrysler parts cars here in NY that might have one.

I think the coral colors began in '55 / '56, but I most look in my pile of literature to be sure.

About the Hood ornament, if I remember right, the ornament on the Windsor is not the same as the others,
it would be nice to find a nice one, do you think that fast59desoto maby knows of a parts car with a good body,
that is my what I need most on my "Dartline!'.

I'm pretty sure he knows of a '58 Windsor in a yard here in NY, but I have never seen it myself. He can be hard to get ahold of, you might try a PM. I need a good grille and grille emblem myself.

Hi firedome !

Sorry I haven't writen before, been working like crazy, unfortunly nothing I get payed for.

Abouth fast59desoto, that sound's interresting maby I'l try to contact him.

You write that you need a grill and a grill emblem, so do I ( and the rest of the car !!! ),
but just to tell you how stupid I have been thru the years ( some of the reason becauce
of low economi due to bad helf ).

Some years ago I found a NOS grill in original box but I didn't buy it,
I got in contact with a guy who had bought a fine driving car in wery wery nice condition,
he wanted to take the car apart becauce he should only use the body to rebuild a Chrysler 300,
so I could buy the rest, but I lost he's phone number ( bad luck or what ? ).

I havn't had the time to find the year for the Corral color scheme, but I will fine it for you.

The Grill was on a marked some years ago.

And the problem with the guy with the car,
is that I had the number and e-mail adress on my computer,
but it was infected with virus, so I lost everything on it.

Not exactly a Mopar, but I made a good deal on a 1977 SAAB 99GL , just like the one I bought new in 1974! Will be my summer driver at my summer house.

Been looking for a backup lens for pass side for my '58 Windsor Spring Special, and the "insert" trim for the passenger rear door... no luck yet!
I could fix mine, but thought it would be easier to find some good ones - maybe not!

Hi firedome !

It's fun to se, how European cars is cosidert status in the USA,
most of the car people I know would prefer an American car,
we think Euro. cars they suck, exept for a few special cars,
(and no I don't mean BMW, Mercedes and the likes, we think they suck).

But one of my naighbours is a SAAB enthusiast, so if you
need something he might be able to help, and I think I have
the original Brochure.

Wasn't your Windsor driveabel ?.

What abouth some of the other Windsor and Windsor "Dartline" peoble,
have you had a god summer ?.

No the Windsor hasn't been driven since 1993, but the engine spins free, and we hope to pull the gas tank and clean it out, blow out the lines, and see if she will run this fall. Been looking for a few parts I need for it (see "wanted"), in the meantime.

The SAAB is just a fun summer run-about for me, with gas prices getting high a 4 cyl. makes sense, and it is one of the safest small cars there, far better than any small US car of that 1970s era. And it has minimal computer-ization, simple to work on! We did have BMW and Benz, and the DO suck! Except the 1973 BMW 2002, we liked that one.

I need a US style (all white, no orange) SAAB 99 front driver-side turn signal lens, but that may be hard to find in Europe! Mechanical parts are mostly still available, we just put 4 shocks on her, and I have 4 ball-joints to do next.

Anyone else working on a '58 Dartline or Spring Special? Any progress on your Dartline Torben? It looks like a solid car!

Hi firedome !

Sorry abouth my long responce time, things have been crazy around here.

Hope that it will be that easy with the Windsor.

Yor are right, if it has to be BMW, the 2002 or the old 3,0 csi coupe from the 70's
are the only ones of any interest, but the prices on old 2002's are crazy.

It's a long time since I have heard from any of the other "Dartline" owners,
so I don't know what is happening.

Abouth my own I can only say pictures lie, It is a complete restoration,
and the last year I have help'ed my son (when i could doo to bad helf),
restoring a 1964 Dodge 440 (his first car), but I hope to begin on my "Dartline"
maby as a winther project, maby this winter or next winter.

A power washer would do wonders for that Dartline! Thanks for the pics of that Morgan! - wonder where it is? Lots of vegetation but not a rust bucket car - my guess is the Pacific Northwest US? I'd love some parts off that one, but it looks too good to part out! My grille badge looks exactly like that one, missing the plastic insert.

Hi firedome !

It is the same grill badge on all the '58 Chryslers expt. the 300,
my badge is also missing the insert, I think that is pretty normal,
it was glued on, maby that is why.

Have anyone news abouth some of the Dartline's, "mogge" found
a new one reasently, as you can see a little higher up on this side.

Geio Laurie has a repro of the badge, but expensive, and his reputation for spotty delivery time keeps me a bit wary.. I wish someone here or in Scandinavia would make them!

This episode of Highway Patrol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGu8EiuH33k&feature=relmfu has a 1958 Windsor Dartline featured
from about 6:00 and onward but it morphs back and forth from a hardtop to a sedan.

Hi imopar380 !

Thanks for shering this with us ( by the way, love your Saratoga ).

I think i have seen a short clip from this serie some time ago,
but I did not know that it was a mopar goldmine.

The Dartline in this episode is great, but I do think it is a 4 dr.ht. all the way,
it is just show'n with and without open window's, there is no B pillar, I think
it is the chrome window frames that looks like a B pillar.

I have to se some more of this mopar serie.

Hi Joakim !

Thanks for the pictures of the "Dartline", it look's very much like one I found a little while back on the net for sale,
but it isn't the same they just look very much alike, I think I will try to make an update on the list of "Dartline's"
we know of.

Keep comming with pictures and information, also if you have talked to any of the owners of cars we just know of,
but never have seen, lets hear about them or maby get a hold on some pictures.

Do all Dartlines have the Spring Special trim: 6 strips on the trunk lid? I see the sedans do not have the wide stainless band over the roof drip rails that the 4 dr hardtops have.

Hi firedome !

As you can se early'er on this thread ( on the bottom of page 3 ),
I have show'ed the intern brochure for dealer's on the Windsor Dartline, and here it show's
that the "new Roof molding", the "new Rear Deck trim" and the "new Sill ( Rocker Panel ) molding",
is part of the "Spring Chrome Molding Trim Package".

This package was according to the brochure part of the Dartline order, but it could also be ordered
without the "Dartline trim" on the Windsor with the insert trim ( on the back fender ), and all other
Chrysler cars in 1958 as a "spring" option.

Hi Guys
Just had to drop in to say Hello. Been a while since I added anything to this thread. I've had the bug lately to work on my '58 again. Another house project and a couple others to wrap up and hopefully I can get back to her. I gave in a little and made a trip to the local junkyard this past Saturday. A '79 Lebaron (Diplomat) gave up its spindles and disc brake parts for me. It had 11x2-1/2" rears which I grabbed too. They'll work nice on the '67 Monaco rear axle already waiting (has 11x2 brakes which parts aren't as available for). Add a '74 Dart MC and I should be all set to start swapping parts when time allows.
I've been wanting to have her on the road so bad this fall. I can scratch the old-car itch pretty well thru the summer with my '67 Skylark convertible. But when the weather's still nice, but not "top down" nice, I really start itchin' for the '58...
I never ran across the other '58 Dartline in town this year at all. A friend saw it once, but just on a glance, and thought it looked like it'd been painted now. Definitely a lighter color than mine. I'm going to guess it's Champagne (?) Yeah, I'm jealous. haha I'll get there!

Hi 58Windsor !

After what we know, there is not many of us "Dartline" owners, that's driving in our Windsor's,
but some of us have something to ease the pain, so we still can cruise a little, you have a nice Buick Conv.
not bad.
You Write that you have found some parts you can use, what do you mene when you write '74 Dart MC ?

'74 Dart Master Cylinder... a dual circuit master cylinder that's a well known and easy swap into a FLer... I intend to do this as well

I also have a convertible - 1970 Fury III convertible - to drive in while I work on my Windsor, but I will have to sell it to help to pay for restoring my '58 :-( See the "Miscellaneous For Sale" in Forums.

Ok, now I understand thanks !

I am on a hunt for a new Master Cylinder too ( for my '59 Spectator ), but my parts dealer think he can find a rebuild.

It's nice with 2 alternative cars, you are lucky.

Geio Laurie has a repro of the badge, but expensive, and his reputation for spotty delivery time keeps me a bit wary.. I wish someone here or in Scandinavia would make them!

Saw a DeSoto badge last summer that was reproduced by George Laurie and it was very nice!

These folks at "Emblemagic" do good work too, and will custom-make badges that they don't already carry. Reliable too.

Thanks Torben! And a Merry Christmas to you and to all here too!

Nothing new for FL stuff, we have been busy working on our new 1966 SAAB 96 2 stoke! that went through the big flood here, we saved it from the crusher.

I have seen the Laurie badges, they are gorgeous... it's the lack of communication I'm concerned about when spending that kind of $$$ for a little plastic badge, it's a lot to spend, especially when you're not absolutely sure how it will go, or how long it will take.

Nothing much going on here either. Work has been very busy. Aong with all the extra activity of the Christmas season, it's kept me from doing too much of anything on the cars. Little bit of carb work for my pickup, but that's it. I'm debating about taking a week off in January. Maybe then. I'm thinking that would be a "Me and My '58 vacation"; all the other people and projects demanding my time just wait and I work on something I *want to* rather than *need to* or *have to*.

Thanks Torben! Yes, I have been driving SAABS (it is an acronym like BMW, for Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolaget, or Swedish Airplane Corporation, as I'm sure you know!) since August 1971, the month we got married! We have 7 of them in the family now: '66, 77, 84, 87, 99, 99, 01. And looking at a '67 on Tuesday!

But Forward Look cars are my true love, and I will never not have at least one FL, if I can help it!

A wonderful St. Lucia's for everyone over there!

good sentiments Torben! ... and let's hope all those of us lucky people with '58 Windsors project cars(most of us here, and my Spring Special is sort of a part Dartline) can move ahead in 2013!

One of the hardest parts to find is the black, red & gold Plastic Emblem that is glued to the gold grill emblem, almost always missing or broken and I've never seen one in a junkyard. As mentioned up above Geo Laurie in Australia, makes a nice one, but has a reputation for uneven service. I just got off the phone with Emblemagic, they have made this in the past and will do so again if there's some demand - I'd suggests anyone who may want one contact them at 440- 209-0792 Eastern Time (Ohio) and let them know. They make show quality emblems. Price is not cheap at $200 but it's the car's "jewelry"!! Laurie gets more I believe, and these Emblemagic folks are known to be dependable. He said the lag time for delivery would be over a year, but they would deliver when they say they will when ordered, so there's plenty of time to save up! Any interest??

Hi firedome !

That sound's interesting, I must say that right now i don't have $200 for an emblem,
but if my economi will get back on track, then ok.

Well, I was able to make my vacation a bit of a reality, I did take the time off. And right in the middle of it I was thrown a reality check called the FLU. #$*%@#&@!!!! That just ain't right! haha Oh well, forced me to rest for a change.

Did manage to get some time in on the Windsor. The stock rear axle is now laying in the back of my Roadmaster wagon ready to head to a local shop for teardown. They have the necessary puller for the hubs and I'm going to have them rebuild the centersection. In the meantime I'll be cleaning up the '67 Dodge Monaco c-body housing that'll be replacing the original rear axle. It's 7/8" wider overall which is no issue in our wheelwells. Plan is for the original '58 center section in the '67 housing, using the '67 bolt-in axles. The entire brake assembly including the backing plates is '85 Diplomat police spec 11"x3".

Pin-to-pin distance on my '58 leafs measures out at 45-5/8" vs. the 46" listed in most places as the known perch width. I'm sure I've seen someone else post on the forums about their Windsor's perches being the 45-5/8" too, but I couldn't find it with a search. Perhaps more of the "Dodge" affect on the Windsor, I don't know. I'm going to be tearing down the '67 rear to the bare housing tomorow, or maybe yet later this evening depending how ambitious I feel. Once I have the center section out I'll be able to get a truer measurement of what that housing has for perch width. I expect the 46".

I also got started on tearing down the Diplomat spindles that'll be going into the front of the car. They're being pretty stubborn. I've had to give those nuts & bolts a lot of soaking time with penetrating oil.

I want vacation next week too so I can keep going! haha
