Hi Morgan and Neil

Morgan, no there is absolutly no chance of me comming in the "Dartline" unless it is on a trailer.

We will come in our 1959 Dodge Sierra Spectator (or if i don't get the wiper system fixed,
our Volvo 850, but don't tell anybody ).

Neil, you say that you only have that one car, but not what it is, is that a 1957 Dodge ?
can i se pictures of it ?.

Abouth the headlight-doors i believe that most of the one i have seen, also is blank,
but if you look at the cars on this thread, also the one's in the ads, then they all have
the dark ( i think they are painted, i haven't looked at the car in years, i get sad ).

The only one that i am not sure of, is the 2 dr.ht. from Finland, you don't se it from
a god angle, do you think it might be a option or a Chrysle windsor special with dark
headlight-doors ? now that i think of it, do all the Dodge having blank headlight-doors ?
they do, don't they ?

Hi Morgan

I have just seen your neighburs Windsor, it is a fantastic nice unrestored car,
i wish that just one of my cars was in that shape, then i whould not complain.

Hi Neil, as we can see on these pictures, it seem that, if it is a Chrysler thing
with the dark headlight-doors, it was on all the '58 Windsor's not just the
"Dartline's", but was it standard or an option ?

Hi Neil

I have been digging in my collection of auto litteratur, it seem
that the dark headlight-door's, might be a late '58 thing, because
in the original brochure from the beginning of the year they are blank.

And the dark ones might not only be on Chrysler's but also on Dodge.

I have found a note in a "Spotters guide", where they point out
that the '58½ model Dodge had painted headlight-door's, maby
it was painted in the body colors, it looks like it on the pictures.

I look forward to see the pictures of your car in my mail.

Well, no; Dodge did not offer/sell any darker-than-normal headlight doors, other than the body-color-matching
"Spring Special" units, and, relatively very few of THEM were produced, in 1958, or in any other year--lolol...

Seemingly, most of the 58 Dodge Spring Special headlight doors are found to be painted in that 'standard' Argent color.

Hi Neil

What you say is, that the late 1958 Dodge, was not delivered with painted headlight-doors,
unless you ordered the "spring Special" option, is that right ?

Because it look like, it's not only the "Dartline" Chrysler's in late '58, that had the dark one's,
i have seen ordinary '58 Windsor's with dark headlight-door's to, so i think that maby all late
'58 Windsor's came with the dark ones, but i am not sure, it can still be a option.

When do you send the pictures of "Horace"

Yes, the body-color-painted headlight doors appeared as an option only on/for the S.-S. Dodges ---altho anyone
having access to a set of colored headlight doors, at the factory or at a dealership, could have put them
onto his car---and, undoubtedly, that DID happen to a few cars, back then!!

I sent you a lot of pics of Horrie....

Hi you FL lovers

If you plan to go to "Wheels and Wings" let's meet.

And to you with Windsor's and "Dartline" Windsor's, if the car ain't running
then come anyway, i will not come in my "Dartline" either (it is not driveable).

I hope to go in my other FL car, my 1959 Dodge Sierra Spectator ( 9 pass. stw. ),
and if so i will have my Danish build MKP camping trailer after it, so i will have a base
in the trailer area, where i can sit and look at the cars comming in to the meet.

Hope to hear from some of you so we can meet there.

This weekend I was reading an early 50's car magazine and came across a photo of a Chrysler Show Car,
and realized that the side trim treatment on the 58 Dartline (like a lot of the small details, on a lot of our cars)
was derived from a (that-) show car's accent-trim feature.

If you are there, come and say hello, some of the time you can find us in the area,
where the cars with camping trailers is park'ed, The Dodge is Brown and Black,
and our camping trailer is a danish "MKP Grandesse Royal", white with a black stripe.

Hope yo se some of you.

And to you Neil , sorry i haven't writen sooner, but i have been very busy, what show car
was it that you read abouth, you sayed that it had some of the "Dartline" trim idea's.

Hi Torben, unfortunately I've found this interesting thread just now but I realized I saw your Dodge and big MKP caravan at the field. My car was the tri-tone pink, black & white 55 Dodge with the flagpole and Pentastar flag jus across the entry lane. This was the WPC Club stand.
This below must be your car.

I'd never seen that 57 CRL vert before.

There's a red/white Coro (D500) vert (that I had a chance to buy, before it was sold and sent to SWE) that's been
posted on the Vasteras threads, but this CRL is new to me.

Anybody know its owner?

...We're getting away form the Dartlines, now....

Hi Neil !

What '57 are you talking abouth, one of the 300's ?
or are we talking abouth the '57 Dodge Convertible ?
I'm not sure that I follow.

It's ok to talk abouth other cars than "Dartline's", as
long as we place our "Dartline" talk here to, don't you think.

Well, this really should be a dedicated Dartline thread, for easy, concise reference purposes.

I'm more-guilty than most in contributing to the hijacking of a thread, but, I meant to refer
to the red/white Custom Royal convertible, above here.

Your are right it should bee abouth "dartline's", but as long as it mostly is, i think it is ok.

Abouth the '57 Custom Royal, mabye Morgan knows who the owner is, he seems to know
a lot of FL people.

Bye the way a while back, you wrote that you read abouth a showcar, that had some trim
details similar to the "Dartline", what showcar was that ? do you remember ?

Hope you are enjoying a gode summer.

I've been brain-farting on that car for a while now...it does (did-) exist, and it had a chrome/stainless
trim treatment up on the fender which definitely resembles the side treatment on the Dartline...I just
can't recall where I saw it...but you'll 'know' it, when you do see it!

Also, the trim treatment on the Dartlines is not unlike the trim which appears along the sides of various 30's cars'
hoods---I'll bet that a lot of people 'caught' that analogy when they first saw the Dartlines.

Read through the thread again, and a couple points jumped out -

The 122" wheelbase Chrysler Windsor was built in the U.S. for 1958 and 1959, using the same body as the Saratoga and New Yorker. Front doors were shared with the Dodge and DeSoto Firesweep while the rear doors were shared with the Firesweep, but not Dodge. The front clip in 1958 was based on the Dodge while the 1959 Windsor and Firesweep used a unique front clip that was 4" shorter than the Saratoga and shared styling with the larger models.

The 122" wheelbase Chrysler Windsor was built in Canada only for 1959. The 1957-58 Canadian Windsors were actually Saratogas with Windsor nameplates and as a result, no Dartline option in Canada. Chrysler of Canada imported the Windsor wagon, thus the Windsor wagon sold in Canada was on a 122"wheelbase. When I was a kid a neighbour had a 1958 Windsor wagon. Took a few years to figure out why the wagon had a different front end from the 1958 Windsor sedan a couple of blocks away.

The 1959 Chrysler Windsors were built at Jefferson Avenue and LosAngeles, while the 1957-59 Firesweeps were built at Hamtramck and LosAngeles. And I believe the 1958 Chrysler Windsor was also built at Jefferson Avenue as well as LA.

Hi Bill !

Thanks for the info. about Windsor's in Canada.
As i recall the Frame on the 122" 1958 Windsor was a Dodge Frame,
if you order parts for the frame (steering / suspention), you have to order
the same parts as Dodge not Chrysler.

There's been a Dartline sighting. A near twin to mine has shown up in town. Lucky Duck actually gets to drive his. I first heard about it a couple weeks ago when a friend called excited and shocked I got mine on the road without telling him. I rushed to where he'd seen it, but it was already gone. Another friend ran across it today at a shop he does business with. This time I caught it. Harder for it to get away without front wheels...hahaha It's in for a front suspension rebuild by the looks of things. Color is slightly different than my Fireglow Poly. I don't know if it's just more faded, or was more toward a champaigne to start with. Regardless, nice car. Definitely better shape than mine; trim is much straighter and less rust overall. Very clean car; only a little rust at the bottom of the front fenders. I left my name and phone number with the shop and they clipped it onto his paperwork. Hopefully I'll get a call in a couple of days.

The "Windsor Sighting" post has me imagining scrambling fighter jets into the sky to intercept.
Observation towers and early warning radar systems, all set up to detect the first movements of
the target car !

Has anyone here considered starting a 12 step program for this "problem" ?

Hi, my name is _________ , and I own/like/lust for 1958 Windsors .....

Bill,  just looking at the statement highlighted in blue,  Chrysler Canada also built 122" Windsors in 1960-61-62 and up to 1964 ( in fact even New Yorkers were 122" in 63 and 64).   The 61-62 Canadian Saratogas were also the 122" wheelbase.  So these also had a "unique" front clip that shared the styling with the larger models, as in 1959.

Hello, I just registred to this site since I ran into this topic in Google.

I know atleast two 58 Dartline Windsors in Finland, both 2DHTs. There was a pictutre of one of them already here and the other one is shown here from the rear:

http://public.fotki.com/Juppee/finnish-forward-loo/chrysler/page2.h...

Eventhough this topic is for Dartlines I can't hold myself telling about my 58 Windsor. It can also be seen from the link above (Golden 2DHT, register MA-618) It has been bought from California in 1988 and repainted soon after arriving to Finland. It has been in the family since 1999 when my father bought it. Seats were redone with new materials from SMS couple years ago and I also did a very painful brake overhauling at the same time, but otherwise there hasn't been so much work on it. It has about 115 000 miles on it's original drivetrain, 354 + Torgueflite. It is equipped with power windows, power steering and power brakes.

Few pictures more can be found on these pages:

Hi Morgan !

It looks beautiful ! I would love my "Dartline! to bee in that shape.

I'm not to crazy abouth the wheels, but every man he's joy.

The colour combo is a bit different.
The green body colour looks something like the original "Spurce Green" ? ( actualy my dreame colour ),
and if so, most cars I have seen have an "Ermine White" roof if it had a 2 tone combo,
but this has a green roof, and if that green is from the original colour sheet,
it look's like it might be the "Aztec Turquoise", is that right ?, it looks greate.

By the way, what does he want for the car ?
