My gas gage barely works too. Rule of thumb, filler-up every time you take her out. Thats what I do.

Mike, with all of the gas tank sending units that are all-over the 'Pay, you have NO excuse to drive around
with a non-working-right gas gauge.

A decade(s) ago, fuel sending units were Unobtanium.

To dial-in your new sending unit, to your gauge, if the gauge needs it, you'll need to pump out (there are machines for it)
as much of the tank's fuel, as possible, so that the gauge (or the sending unit's float) can be adjusted to record a true-Empty
reading on the gauge.

Full-'full' is nice to see on the gauge, but you're only really interested in finding out when you're soon gonna begin 'coasting'.

True enough, but there's somethin to be said for fillin up and writing down the miles
on a 3x5 card so you know when you will need to gas up again - or "remembering" you
need to get more gas when there are 26,230 miles . . . or 26,250 . . . or was it 26,320 . . .
Yes sir, THAT'S the stuff that makes an old ride "fun"

Been there done that.

It's also important to know the odo-error, so you can accurately calculate your car's true mpg.
