Yesterday was just like Christmas for me, my recently acquired 57 Fury arrived without incident. When the trailer opened up, it was just like seeing all the gifts under the tree when I was a little boy. She needs a little brake work and a new set of carpets, but other than that, she's a beautiful machine. The previous owner replaced all the brakes 8 years ago, but only put about 80 miles on her since. These older brakes don't fair well when left parked for so long. Actually the last (or latest sequentially numbered) 57 Fury in the registry known to exist. Build date from Chrysler Historic is 8-29-57. Fury No. 7351 of 7438. Super interesting car that left the factory with some 1958 parts installed. I have had this confirmed by other Fury owners, Chrysler used what they had on hand at the time, and in the last 3 days of the 57 production year, they were known to use 58 parts. Mine has original 58 air cleaners, hood emblem and trunk letters. This car was ordered by a Chrysler dealer in North Dakota for his wife. They tried to special order one in red, but no dice. This car was painted red with less that 100 miles on it, pre-Christine, and has since had one more red repaint. The interior is all Fury, but was also re-done in 57 in red and white. Also has sun visors, padded dash and power windows. More to come soon...
Thanks, Ron

Why would one want to put primer on a car?

Congratulations, and a very nice looking car! I'm not sure I "buy" all of that 100-mile stuff in the story, but it doesn't matter, it's a great car and it's obvious you love it. I would too! Congratulations-

There was another red-Fury with a very similar interior which used to(?) reside in SoCal.

Is your car 'that' one?

Hey Everybody, Thanks for all the kind words! We got the brakes adjusted and she's running great. The previous owner is a retired doctor from Texas, and from what I understand, he has quite the collection. He did the research on this car and found out the complete history. He was the one who told me about the 1957 re-paint to red/white. True or not, it is a great story and I love it.

The rear package tray was covered in red vinyl years ago and the sun turned it purple/red. I am having the carpets and the read deck re-done, but keeping it all red until I can afford to go all original again. I did find some original sand dune white while peeling back the vinyl from the rear deck. The am radio does not work, but I wired the light inside of the radio yesterday. I think I will hide a satellite radio system in the glove box and just keep the am radio lit up for looks. All of the original power window switches are in the trunk, and just need a little rebuilding.

To answer a few questions...

I do not believe this one ever lived in California.
Born in Detroit, sold in North Dakota where she stayed for many years owned by the dealer, sold to a man in Shreveport, LA, then to the doctor in Texas.
That would make me the 4th privileged owner of this fine machine.

I found the car a few weeks ago in the Hemming's classifieds. I have been on the hunt for a while now and felt really good about this one. I put a deposit on her, then ordered a private 3rd party inspection and appraisal to be done. She scored quite well, and the fine folks at the Golden Fin Society were able to offer some great information from their 56/57/58 Fury registry too. They were so helpful that I decided to join their club.

I was hoping to take her to Carlisle this weekend but it's almost 100 miles and it rained on and off all day long yesterday. We will be there next year without a doubt, polished and prepared.

Here are a couple more interior pictures, looks like someone drilled holes for a tach or something on the left dash...

Thanks again!
-Ron

Did you notice that your dash also has factory A/C registers where the defrost registers normally would be? Are there any other signs of it having had A/C?

Are the power window switches supposed to be so high on Plymouths ? Mine are much lower on the DeSoto.

Don't see many Plymouths with power windows.

The power switches are where the Fury script emblems should be, but were deleted for some unknown reason when the door panels were redone in red/white.

Have you had the door panels off ?

Too much time has gone by for me to remember this specifically for Plymouth, but my DeSoto has actual
punch-out holes in the inner door metal behind where the power switches go (if so equipped) for the harness
to attach to the switch.

With those switches being so high, I am wondering if those punch-outs are up high in that location ?

Anyone here have a power window 57-58 Plymouth to verify ?

Strangely, I cannot ever remember seeing a power window Plymouth ! Is it Alzheimer's, or are they
just non-existent ?

I had one with power windows. The ones in the red car are certainly aftermarket and the photos of the "restoration candidate" are correct factory with the exception of the 4-gang switch on the driver door. It's later 60-62.

Ron, No matter how "correct" or "incorrect" this car may be, if you're happy with it (which it sounds like you are), I'm happy for you. Good find, and good luck with it. Hopefully we'll all get to see it next year at Carlisle!! Where abouts in Pa. are you located? Maybe I'll be lucky enough to see it sooner!!

Thanks Bob! I live in West Chester, PA.

I do have all of the original window switches in the trunk. Thay are slightly rounded squares, like in the rear of the car.

I have checked the punch card, and sure enough this is a factory a/c car! What a great surprise!

The p/w switches are early 70s GM. They also make an appearance on the 58 Dodge convertible seen at Carlisle this past weekend.

I can also verify that the power window swiches are "later " versions in a higher spot.

Worth noting, that the windows were "live"   ie.  no ignition keys needed to fire up.

Also have 7 amps running thru the soft solder on the switches .  Worth running thru relays to lessen the current load on the swiches; 2 per window; 1 for up wire, 1 for down wire.

Switches are rebuildable.  Found info on Imperial club website !

That's great. Did you get that from the company in Florida, license plates dot tv? I just called them about my plate, $125.00 for a Custom 1957 Penna plate. Sounds steep, but if it's nice, I will probably go with it. The modern PA plate is pretty ugly.

Thanks!

As in everything else in this life, you usually get what you PAY for....

I made the mistake of buying a replacement set of CA license plates from that place(??) in FL, iirc,
but, the paint began chipping/flaking off, even though I'd polished the plates.

Sometime before next JAN, when my (rear-) plates renew, I'm going to have a new rear plate be created
by Darryl's License plate company : darrylsplates.com .

The FL-built plates might be OK to hang on a wall (as they're advertised only to be able to be used), but my
CA "blue" plates are NLA, and they were the style/color in existence when Horrie first became Registered in CA,
in 1980, so, they ARE the official-correct license plates for him to wear!

H. originally was licensed in IN, so, maybe, he could wear year-of-manufacture plates only IN Indiana.
Also, the "blue" plates are very-rare, nowadays.

Check out "Darryl's" plates.

Thanks for the info, but I called Darryl's today and he only restores or duplicates original tags, no vanity tags.
Anyone else know of anyone other that the Florida company?

Huh.....I've got an "original", "vanity plate" (D500, surprisingly enuf) that he's going to restore.

I guess what he's saying is that he does not "stamp" plates; he only strips and re-paints existing ones, but, HIS
paintwork is durable enough to live on a daily driver car.

Well, a fake-vanity plate is not legitimate for driving purposes, anyway, so W-t-H if it's got weak paint on it.

For anyone who wants to have a GOOD re-painting of a plate, which is going to have to work for its living, Darryl's
is the guy/place to have that resto work be done to it/them.

Yes I got my plates from licenceplates.tv
They are as mint now as when I bought them about 8 years ago.
I couldn't find anywhere on their website that said they were to be exclusively hung on the wall. In fact, there is detailed installation-on-car instructions.
Interestingly, it specifically says not to apply car polish to them...
As I remember, they were pretty dear though, like $100 each if I remember right (or was it $100 the pair?)
Maybe they had a cheaper version available or something, but I couldn't be happier with these plates that I bought.
Glenn.

The two power window controls in the back seat are the original type, and this is what I found in the trunk. They will need to be rebuilt and rechromed, but they are the original OEM type.

Replaced the missing stainless steel Fury fin trim piece on the drivers side today. I was able to find a nice original one, but it wasn't cheap.
That one little fin stripe makes a world of difference.

I take notice in your photos that your Fury has no antenna. Any evidence present as to where the original antenna(s) was/were located?? Nice thing is, that now you can put one, or two, anywhere you choose.....

Hey Bob, I saw your car in the thread about bumper wings, and she's a real beauty!

Yeah, someone deleted the antenna(s) and both mirrors back in the 80's I believe. I have not found any evidence of the single front antenna or the two rear antennas yet. The body man who did some work on my car in the 80's was very good. His name was James Reynolds, and he owned the car for near a decade. He has passed, but I have recently spoken with his son, Ivy, who now owns and operates his fathers' body shop in Texas, and tells me that this was one of his fathers' favorite cars ever. He is getting together with his siblings to try and find me some old pictures of the car. Can't wait to see them! I believe that when and where possible, history should be preserved and shared. Ivy was excited to hear from me, especially considering that his father sold this car over 20 years ago!

I may add the rear antennas if i can find a nice pair at a fair price. I saw a NOS pair on eBay for $1500.00, ouch!

Jack at GFS found a picture from 2002/2003 that shows the original window switches still in the car. Thanks Jack!

I agree, that trim piece will make a world of difference! And these cars are rolling time capsules, the people that see them and have enjoyed them before are taken back when they see them. That's great that you were able to contact the family of a former proud owner!

I just got some new work done this afternoon, and couldn't be more pleased with finished piece.
Sean Cummings at Paradox Tattoo in Thorndale, PA did an outstanding job! (as always)
