Ron, here are some photos of the factory A/C on a '57 Fury I have. Hopefully the set up you are currently looking at compares with this.

I'll have my 57 Turnpike Cruiser there on Saturday and Sunday. FYI....This weekend there's a cruise night in Trexlertown, Pa. put on by Mopar Madness. Weather permitting, I'll probably take my Plymouth there on Saturday night. It may be a little too far for you though??? Just head north on Rte 100.....it will pretty much take you right there!!!

John-

How many brackets hold the compressor and the generator to the engine and do you know if any of the brackets differ to a 2X4 and 1X2/1X4 setup? I have a setup (from a 318 2 bbl) but many of parts were removed when the engine was removed, but it was never installed. The parts were kept but thrown in the trunk. I forgot about the upper radiator hose metal pipe, I don't believe I have that but I'm sure one could be made up.

Matt, I'll have a look at it tomorrow. This car had it's original engine replaced years ago, so I'm not sure if any of the brackets were changed at that time. If memory serves me correct, the bracketry is the same either way.

If the 1957 318 is #P31, and 1958 318 is #LP2, are the two compatible? I have been looking at this parts book way too long...

Ron, I'm pretty sure that the components for both '57 and '58 Fury 318 will be the same.
The diagram you have posted is for the 350 B-block components, however.

The 58 with a/c in question was a 2 barrell savoy I think, Do you think it would be different? Or 318 is 318...

I also found these in the book.

Thanks John!

Thanks Bob! I live in West Chester, PA.

I do have all of the original window switches in the trunk. Thay are slightly rounded squares, like in the rear of the car.

I have checked the punch card, and sure enough this is a factory a/c car! What a great surprise!

Merry Christmas Phurious!
Sure wish Santa would leave a 1957-58 Fury under my tree!
Discovering is a factory A/C car is just icing on the cake. Hopefully you'll be able to find all the brackets and parts needed to re-install air somewhere down the road.
Did you notice the dash gauge bezel has the '58 star pattern?

Thank you! Christmas in July is great!

The dash is 57, but all of the trim is 58 (stars, not dots). I believe it to be original from the factory. The car was built in Detroit during the last few days of the 1957 model year production. I have been in touch with another 57 Fury owner who had 58 oval air cleaners on his Fury when he picked it up at the dealer in September of 57. Unfortunately there are no 57 Fury's built after mine still known to exist today to prove or disprove this theory.

I am indeed looking to replace all of my original A/C parts...

I had her out today for a wash, wax and pictures. And what a beautiful day it was!

Ron, I'm by no means knocking on your car, but I noticed in these photos that it's missing it's rear valance panels under the bumper. You'll have to keep an eye out for a pair at a swap meet......

I stumbled upon this picture for sale on Ebay and I wonder if it could be another late '57 Fury with parts of both year's model. The plate on the car apparently dates the picture to 1958 or 1959.

The car obviously has 1957 headlights, fender ornaments and hood letters, but has the 1958 grille "V" and lower valence and grille.

I saw that pic as well. Looks like someone changed out the center medallion and lower grille pan. There is NO WAY I'm gonna believe that this car came from the factory like this.

If they changed it out somebody was parting out a 58 Fury when it was only a couple years old. Regardless, if the parts were switched, it's only to make a good looking 57 look better IMHO......57 Plymouth's lower vertical grilles are fugly in my book........

happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday dear Fury,
happy birthday to you!

My Fury was built 53 years ago today, so I got her all of her missing factory A/C parts and the correct radiator to celebrate the occasion.
Oh yeah, and she's getting her original motor, starter and generator rebuilt as well.
Plus, I put her new PA plate on today too.

I think I'm going to need a second job soon...

Yeah, I'm going to put her back to original a little at a time, but I will enjoy the red paint as long as I can first.

Wow, what an elegant accessory !     Could you please tell me how they mount from behind?  Usually never see any hardware included, so was wondering how is it done....

I'm assuming standard chrome diecast horn centre with  rivets removed..... then ?????

Pic of the rear would be much appreciated !

Thanks....Colin

Thanks Brew!

The outer chrome bezel is the same, but it takes a special mounting bracket to fit it...

The horn rings are stock items for the Plymouth and the DeSoto-Chrysler applications. The Dodge never got one
on account of the very differently shaped steering wheel center. As noted above, the clock requires a special bezel
that mates the clock to the horn ring / bar, and is different for Plymouth vs. the DeSoto-Chrysler unit (which is the
same)

I reproduced both types in the early 90's and found very few takers.

It is a very nice clock!
I have allways found it a bit odd that after installing it you have two clocks in the car - the steering wheel clock and the other one in the speedometer cluster. Mopar should have offerend **something** to put in place of the original clock.

They did ! Some cars got the standard clock removed (or never installed) and a block-off plate put in
its place. It seems some buyers added the steering wheel clock and left the standard clock as well.

Mine has both.

They did ! Some cars got the standard clock removed (or never installed) and a block-off plate put in
its place. It seems some buyers added the steering wheel clock and left the standard clock as well.

Mine has both.

Your trust fund seems to be working just fine to me...

Then one of us has a GROSS misunderstanding of how a trust fund is supposed to work !

I was thinking I somehow should get a monthly stipend that translated into NOT having to work 12-16
hours a day to get ahead !

No ?

I have a nice one. But I would leave the dash clock in there. These Benrus Clocks would have been dealer added and I really doubt the techs would remove the dashboard clock.

Hey Matt, The Benrus was also a factory option, not just a dealer installed item. I would be interested in it. Please PM me.

Thanks!

Yes, ok. But in my opinion it still is a quite poor 'option' to have a empty chrome button on black back plate in place of the clock. They really should have offered something there.

Phurious, I think it will be easy to find a delete plate. Most Plymouths came without the clock. I must have a couple of them lying around somewhere. There is one in a picture here:

I'm not to sure about that, these things were dealer items, like mirror and antenna installation. There is no factory option code I know of for these clocks either, which leads me to believe they are dealer install only.

I saw that one, but Ron told me it's pretty rusty.

I would love to find a tach and blend it in somehow.

I am interested in a delete plate if you would be willing to part with one. Please PM me with info.

Thanks Fin!

Matt, The way I undersatnd it, You could order your car from the dealer with the steering wheel clock. The dealer would put in the order with no clock, or clock delete, and then add the benrus when it arrived.
I could be wrong about that, but I am still interested in deleting my broken electric clock...

Thanks

Would either of these fit?

Not cheap... and I don't even know if the diameter is right, but...
You would need the matching distributor as well.

You bring up a good point...if the car was special ordered and they deleted (credited) the clock, which was standard on Furys, Belvederes, and Sport Suburbans. I just wanted to let Ron know that stuff like this, easy theft or damage-prone items were mostly dealer installed. And therefore he could keep his dash clock. Also note if the clock was deleted, there would be no hole in the dash for the clock adjuster.

I'd be willing to part with the delete plate I have, I won't use it.

I removed the dash pod tonight, and there it was, a big old piece of SWISS CHEESE! I found a date stamp on the inner housing marked 5 2 57. I can no longer believe that this car left the factory with the "stars" installed. There was a screw missing, and I can tell that this has been removed at least once before. I guess that explains where the standard, non a/c type bezel and switch came from. I guess someone at some point in the car's history decided to "update" the dash with the newer 1958 trim. I guess I'll never know why or when the original "dots" became estranged from the car. I'm also guessing that the hood and trunk came from the same donor car as the dash trim. The good news is that the "stars" are in great condition, and I'm going to be trading them in for some nice "dots" here real soon.

At least the 1958 gold oval air cleaner story checks out with another fury owner who bought his new late in the production year. Although, I would love to pick up a nice 1957 set just to have.

No big deal really, just wanted to clarify...
