I had a AM/FM cd player installed in mine. the Fm converter was not picking up stations really well . the radio I have in it now does ( I have it mounted under the dash) I also got the windows tinted to help keep the interrior cooler (61_1 - Copy.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 61_1 - Copy.jpg (55KB - 280 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | That's a nice Fury, Steph! I like the black, it really makes the bright work stand out. FIN ME, the FL floor mats were a recent purchase from Gary Goers in Montana, I'm really happy with them. Here are a few photos from a recent cruise. Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | Dorsey, I went with basic Cooper "AV 4" 235/75R15 from my local tire store, I am happy with the size and style, very plain. Although I do prefer the look of bias-plys, I plan on doing a lot of driving and opted for the radials because of ride and cost. Expert Posts: 3577 Location: Blythewood, SC | ARGH!!! Pete, put some rattle can black over that green overspray in those wheel wells. It amazes me how many people miss that one little touch that doesn't even require masking to make a huge difference.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | I bought my car sight unseen (not even any photo-illustrations included in the Old Cars Weekly ad) in 1980. When I saw some photos of it (..." a rust free original") after buying him, I saw some major white over spray in the wheel wells. Turns out that that new paint covered some shoddy rust out cover-up work all along his lower areas (he had lived in the Chi-Town area). Rattle can gloss black restores the appearance of OE undercoating very nicely.

Inactive by user's request Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | I love the color. I recall MANY '61s being this color when these cars were still rather plentiful. Fawn or beige was another common color back in the day. Nice turn around! Thanks for keeping the manual transmission, too! K.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | Thanks for the comments, fellas! Kenny, I went with the Mint Green from the '61 Plymouth paint charts, not the original color to the car but a 1961 color anyway. I do look forward to seeing your '59 wagon's transformation! And Mista Copper, I'll hop on that black out right away! Actually, I did paint the springs and wheel wells, but looks like I missed the brake line there and a few other bits. Pete

Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | Sorry for the late reply, Rosy! I bought those floor mats from Goers; I believe you can find them on eBay now also. Rather than make a new thread, I thought I'd share some photos of a trip I took with my brother down to Cedar Key, Florida, a few weeks ago. I logged 557 miles on the trip, and "Firedance" (the name my daughter gave this car when she was little) did well with no problems, except the windshield wipers refused to work. Thus, our trip was cut a little short by an irritating storm named Colin. Anywho, We decided to travel the old ways, not setting a tire on any interstates. Our first stop was Ashburn, GA, to take a photo in front of the huge peanut, a monument to the industry that has made South Georgia famous, um, if it is famous, that is. Next stop was a cool vintage motel in downtown Tifton, GA. Then we finally made it to the Florida State Line. Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | Well, we finally started seeing water, bringing a smile to my face! We made it to the "poor man's keys", Cedar Key. Attached also is a photo of our lodging, no Marriott or Holiday Inn here! Thank goodness. Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | In these last two photos, I tried to re-create an image I bought from the Florida Archives. The black and white is on 2nd Street, downtown Cedar Key, taken in 1965. I positioned my wagon in almost the same spot, 51 years later. Hope you enjoy the photos. Expert Posts: 2905 Location: little rock, AR | I didn't realize that's a heater delete car. Also, since its a radio delete send me the speaker grill and I'll send you some Arkansaw Chicken wire to replace it with. LOL

Maybe one day I'll take a longer journey with the wagon and we can meet in person--since our cars are twin sisters from birth! Dorsey, she actually had a heater new (being from North Dakota, I suppose the USAF didn't want their airmen to freeze!) but it is not connected and I've got the block off plate on the dash. I'm still holding out to find a real firewall blockoff plate. Pete

Elite Veteran Posts: 765 | I know this is a old thread, but if you still have this wagon,I have the perfect luggage accessory for you. I got these at a garage sale awhile back. They are US Air Force carry cases for 35mm cameras. It's probably what your wagon used to haul for the AF. Elite Veteran Posts: 765 | There are 2 ,They measure 21x13x17 . They are fairly sizable and military qualiity. I believe these would held suvailance 35 mm film cameras for underwing aircraft. I also have (but have misplaced) 35 mm film from the Thunderbirds air show footage where the cameras were used. The films were dated 1959. I believe I paid $20 for the cases. There yours for $20 plus shipping. If your interested? Edited by Apollo 61 2018-11-06 10:38 AM
