I've been able to retrieve another piece of history about my precious car.
I've got the Build Sheet from Historical Collection for my 55 Custom Royal Lancer and found out it was shipped to Pueblo Dodge in Pueblo, CO. in July 1955
The Pueblo Dodge dealer is still in business, anybody who knows if it's still in the same location as in the 50s?
The previous owner told it came to Sweden from Arizona in the 80's and got resotored in Sweden. It's been on Swedish roads since 1990.
The S/N is 34958038 and the Engine D553-86964 is the one it been shipped with from factory.
Colors are Heather Rose lower with Jewell Black saddle and Sapphire White top and tail light housings.

Thord, could you kindly PM me with a full screen-scan of your car's IBM card?

Well, "WL", on the P/T plate was thought to have been for 'Window Lifts', (or for some other derivation).

Fortunately, your IBM card only has one "1" code on it, and that code appears to be for :" Glass & Window Lifts".

SO, we now know that a "1", there, either confirms the OEM installation of ("Solex") Tinted Glass, or, Power
Window lifts, but, apparently NOT for both of those options.

A car having both Solex glass and power windows would have a higher number, like: E.G.: "3" or "4" or "5" , since a "2"
would probably confirm either Solex glass or power windows---which ever one that your car does NOT have in it.

Your car's option code, for its tinted glass, or, for its power windows is : "301"

Which of those two options does your car have?

As is seen on the later-years' cars, there could well be various iterations/versions for the installation of Solex glass
and/or for the power window lifts (like, on 2-dr sedans, or wagons with a power rear window) each-different-version-of-which would
require a different option number in that box to confirm whatever option(s) it has on it.

The options which are stamped across the top of the IBM Card are very important, basic, build-options/conditions, and the factory,
in 1955, considered the "Glass-type" (and the window-lifts) to be important features to confirm at a mere glance.

Also, the option code next to the "Glass & W/L" appears to be : "Spl Bdy Eqp & Paint", and your car has a "3", there, which
corresponds to the "SP" code on the P/T plate, so, there, too, we now have a (1955, anyway!) decoding of what the "SP"
actually stands-for.

There can be up to 9-different codings available for any 2-digit option code, and 'this' code, for "SP" is : "29_" .

Your car's "SP" code happens to be "293", but, there obviously are at least options #1 (291) and #2 (292) for "SP"---and, probably, a
lot of higher-number options under "29_" .

So, can you determine what may be so "Special" about your car's "Body and/or Paint"?????

I also see the option code "34_": Power Equipment ; your car has a very-high final digit ("348") for that option group.

The "Engine Power Package" is the option "363".

As this (363) is a 3-digit option code, there is only one version for it, and this would confirm (or, seem-to confirm) the OEM installation of
the 4-bbl carb/dual exhaust option.

The "Engine Power Package" option has remained the same (above), throughout the 50's.

Your car is not coded as having an OEM Power Package in it.

The option code next to it : "Spl Motor"; "364" also only confirms one possibility, and that would seem to be the installation of the
Hemi engine, in a non-Hemi car model.

But, then, there is an option "Big Pow Pkg"; "367"....and I have no idea what that might confirm, in the 1955 car model year, BUT:

I just checked, and the 1955 IBM cards are laid-out IDENTICALLY to the 1956 IBM cards, so, the "Spl Motor (364)",and/or "Big Pow Pkg
(367)" options may have been included on the 1955 IBM cards in anticipation of the 1956 car's engine variations.

In 1956, even for the D500-1 race cars, I haven't seen a "Big Pow Pkg" or a "Spl Motor" optioned car!

The paint codes appear to be modified for the tag and build record, just as they were in 1956.

All Dodge paint codes in 1955 started with "5". But the codes on the tag drop the "5". Single tones were numbered under 560 and two tones were from 560 through 575. For three tones, Dodge took the two tone number and added -1, -3 or -4 for the third colour, which was the middle or saddle colour.

"571" is a two tone color scheme with Heather Rose on the upper and Sapphire White for the body colour. "-3" added Jewel Black for the saddle colour, the only choice for 571.

Thus "571-3" would appear on the tag and build records as "71" for the paint and "3" for Special. Exact sales codes were 247 and 241 for the paint (71) and 293 for the saddle colour (-3).

Thanks for the feedback. My car's option code "301" stand for tinted glass.
What's special with the paint (SP -3) is the lower and upper colors are switched around, this was described by Mike Petersen in WPC News Nov 1980.
The engine is the 2-bbl Hemi which was standard in the Custom Royal, the current dual exhausts is not OEM.

Well, at least one of you is incorrect, technically; Bill says that code (5)71 is 2-tone with Heather Rose on the upper & on
the saddle-area,
with White on the lower area, with the "SP-3" putting the black in the saddle area, so that the Rose would go onto the roof (only),
with the black in the saddle, and with the white on the lower area.

This combination is NOT what Thord's car has on it.

Thord quotes 55-Guru Mike Petersen as saying that the "SP-3" was "Special" in that it confirmed a flip-flop of the white
and the Rose, so that the Rose is 'now' on the lower, and with the White on the upper (roof) area, and with the
'black' somehow(-now?) residing in the middle-saddle area of the car.

First - so Thord's car has the ORIGINAL paint?

The two tone paint scheme listed the top and body schemes. The "-X" told you what the THIRD colour, on the saddle, was to make it a three tone. There is no mention of flopping the colours. Dodge did NOT offer a white over rose two tone - only a rose over white. The "-3" meant the third colour was black, "-2" was white and "-4" was red. Obviously not all schemes were offered in all three colours, and in the case of "571", it was offered ONLY in "-3" for a three tone. No inversion. Just added black for the saddle colour.
