Anyone got a line on a transmission of this type? Keep and eye out for me. I need to get one to attach to my 354 hemi and then drop it in my 55 Windsor. Would prefer to find it local to avoid the shipping hassles / cost.

There was a change in the way Mopar shifters worked in 57. Before that, one arm shifted 1-N-R or 2-N-3, depending on what the second arm was doing (pulled or relaxed). After 57, one arm controlled 1-N-R and the other controlled 2-N-3. Do you have your bellhousing? You're going to need a 55-56 Dodge truck transmission that was originally behind a 331 or 354. There were a few 55-56 Desotos and Chryslers with V8's and 3-speed manuals, not real scarce today. Richard

You will need the X member from the stick car as well.
Plus, you will have to drill the crank for a pilot bearing
and shorten or lenthen the drive shaft to fit.

I went through all this back in '64 on an E-2 pay!
Not easy!!

I was told by a transmission rebuilder at the Mopar swap meet that a 70's Dodge motor home or large truck had a 727 3sp with the hand brake on the shaft. These were aluminum housings not the cast iron. With a conversion plate I could mount it on the 354. Rebuild on the 70's version is around 350... lots of parts. Rebuild on the Cast Iron Torqueflight is around $750... parts are rare / have to be fabbed.

So I think I am going to look for the 70's model.

Yes sorry.. I need to fix that.

Bah I can't edit the title. I was so focused on 2sp vs. 3sp AUTOMATIC that I forgot to mention it. I have the 2sp auto at the moment and I want to get another gear so highway travel is not so hard on the gas mileage.

Well just to update everyone... working both angles at the moment.
1) Cast iron torqueflight in process of rebuild with 'safetymike'. Still having trouble getting a good front pump assembly. The one we have binds and the replacement pump I got for the assembly doesn't fit it because it appears to be the 55 version. Somewhere in 56-57 they increased the thickness of the pump to increase the flow at idle.

2) Aluminum torqueflight with brake can be had but core cost is $400 plus rebuild, adaptor plate, linkage rework, tranny mount, driveshaft rework. I will do this option only if Mike and I cannot get this pump issue worked out. Been looking for 4 months now. It vexes me...

If we can just get a good narrow pump body, I think we may have it.... But we haven't found one yet...

Still looking for that Cast Iron Torqueflight front pump assembly. Any leads would be appreciated... or digging around in your parts bins which ever may apply to you.
