Well, in 6 different decades of me breathing on this earth, my hearing was
100% crystal clear - about a month ago that all changed. It started out as
slight ringing and pressure in my ear. It got worse and worse - I went to the
doc, and after she was done laughing at me (she said the last two patients she
saw with ear infections were both 4) she took a look in my ear. Well, she stopped
laughing and asked if I had any discharge from my ear. I said no and a prescription
later I was at home. Well, the pain kept getting worse and then I felt the "drip"
coming out of my ear. Blood "dripped" for a day and a half. Perforated ear drum.
I'm at about 30% hearing out of my right ear - I go back in Aug to see if I regained
any that I lost - Doc said I might - and I might not. A lot worse things could happen
to me so I'm not that upset really. It is an adjustment though.

Location: Big M Automotive's Yard | On our honeymoon I got an ear infection and they gave me drops. My hearing was like 0 in my rt ear. It hurt like the dickens going over the rockies and sierras so when I got back I went to my doctors office. He thought I had perforated my ear drum too so sent me to a specialist. He looked at it and said that I had an outer, and inner ear infection. The outer was healing up but the inner one was bad. It took me 6 months to get my hearing back due to it. I feel for you.
Good side = if someone is bugging you, turn that ear towards them and then you can tell them that you never heard them. LOL

Location: Parts Unknown | Similar thing just happened to me. On a chopper flight out to one of the FOB's, I lost all
hearing in my right ear, the left one felt like I had my head in a bucket, but I could not
really tell if it was from the right ear or not. Went to see the medic, they cleaned some
"furry critters" out of my ears, but no improvement. They said it was fluid build up on the
inside and gave me some drops. No serious pain, just annoying. It took six weeks until
I no longer noticed it. Never had anything like that happen before. Taken lots of chopper
hops before, even a couple since. No problem. No clue what happened there. But it was
weird.

Location: Snohomish, WA. | I have had perforated eardrums many times. Ear infections were the cause. I even had a perforated eardrum when I was discharged from the air force, which for some reason made me eligible for a disability (which I refused). I always was relieved when the drum finally bust because the pain would instantly come off with the pressure relief. Deaf, but no pain.
My hearing has always come back just fine, although as I have grown older I have lost more and more on the top end.
Just curious, do you still have your tonsils? I never had mine removed and some say they are a major cause of blocked tubes, which was what was causing most of my infections.
I haven't had an infection since my Air Force days, like about 1977-78.

I do still have my tonsils - This is the first time I have ever had an ear infection (I guess I had one or more as a kid, but I
don't remember) About 4 months ago I had my first sinus infection ever - wow that hurt - like a ball bat to the face - I took
the whole perscription from that but I guess there is the chance it didn't all go away and ended up in my ear . . . ?
Again, a lot worse things could happen to a fella - I still have my left ear at 100% and what ever little I can pick up from
my right, it's alright with me - it is what it is - I can tell you this for sure, anytime I'm around noise, Ima have my ear plugs
in - work gets loud from time to time, the dragstrip and/or workin on a car or bike can too. I would wear ear protection sometimes-
sometimes not . . .

Location: Ripon, WI | I have had tons of issues with my ears... Every time your drum perforates, you will lose a bit of hearing......... My right ear is horrible, my left is better. When I get a cold and fluid builds up in my left, I literally feel deaf.. Hang in there... It will come back. |

Location: Heaven Above (Formerly Oklahoma City,OK) | Next comes bi-lateral hearing aids. Current models are digital and real easy to "adjust" to suit your needs. Been wearing them now for 10 + years and really appreciate the difference when I take 'em out at bed time.
My hearing loss was result of too many unmuffled engines specially the two cycle Cart and mo/cycle engines. |

Location: atlanta | It always amazed me that with all the parts of the human body we live relatively pain free, but just a splinter or ingrown nail and it hurts and is aggravating as hell. in my early Navy years in a Helo squdron on an aircraft carrier our berthing was right under the flight deck all the way forward and between the cats, most of the time i slept in the shop, and as an avionics flight deck troubleshooter during aircraft launch's and maintenance turn up's didn't help my hearing even with double protection, there were always times when you'd go through a hatch and out on the hanger bay and they'ed be turning up an aircraft after maintenance. I have to admit the hearing thing came in handy when i was married, when something didn't get done or got screwed up i always had the ol' hearing excuse in my bag o tricks. :-) Hope Ya get better.
