I finished this car last year and need a few things to be done. I have the washboards and spears but can't install till I find the three rear trim stainless pieces, one across back of tailgate and two above the bumper ends (one right and one left), mounted on the rear quarters. They were standard stainless pieces on Polara wagons and optional on Matador wagons with the washboard option. I also need another license frame that says San Bernardino,Empire Dodge. Any help would be appreciated. This is a true ram D500 wagon sold new at Empire Dodge, San Bernardino, Ca. This is a loaded wagon with most options. It is one of two with dual air made and built in Los Angeles. It is in Darrrell Davis' book. It was spotted by some in the late 90's in Colton, CA but any other information on its background is not known.

What ? No power windows ? Sell it and keep looking for a better one !

Seriously, though .... Beautiful car !

Do you know any history of WHY the original owner ordered the rams on this car ?
I suspect it was for towing, but maybe there was something else ?

Hi Paul, beautiful wagon. Re the washboard trim, I am sure it was not available on the wagons even though brochures picture it. This has been drummed into me by a couple of other 60 Dodge Owners, ( I owned a Polara for 21 years). Both Bob Howard and Aaron Kahlenberg have assured me the washboard trim was not available factory installed on wagons. However, Aaron is installing a set on his wagon and he's a fairly active member on this forum. Hopefully he will see the post. Love the car!

Ian,

Paul has seen my wagon in person. I've been looking for the Polara wagon only pieces for him, but have had no luck... Yet. They will turn up at some point. I think they could be hand formed/extruded out of brass (it has a triangular section). The tailgate piece it simple, it's the two end pieces that are going to be tough.

There is no access to mount the washboards from the inside because the wagon has a double wall in the cargo area. On my car, the washboards are held on with external clips... Which made the alignment very hard/impossible to adjust... But they look amazing!

Here are pictures of the pieces Paul is looking for -- before and after the washboards. There are actually 5 pieces. One across the bottom of the tailgate, and two on each side of the 'gate. For the washboards, Paul will only need the two horizontal parts that wrap around the corners. The washboards replace the vertical pieces.

Paul, you do know that the other D500 Polara wagon is in Japan, and that, when last seen (on U-Tube), it was not
in very excellent condition.

Maybe Aaron can post up that sob-story, on that car.

Fantastic car - the longroofs grows more and more popular, and they are practical and convenient.

Love the hardtop wagons! I'll bet it draws all kinds of attention! Don't like the Denso alternator on the Japan car. But bet they're plentiful there.

An amazing car. I noticed though that he needs a new steering wheel (or at least the old one rebuilt) as the plastic is completely gone on the top part and there's nothing left but the metal core.

That car, when exported to Japland, was in exquisite condition.

In the video, it is seen to be deteriorating/deteriorated.

Aaron/C300 PM'ed me that video a long-while ago, and lamented its current condition.

Paul this is the exact wagon combination my parents had...an Azure Blue 60 Matador with Spinners and Snow 61 Polara Wagon...awesome to see these side by side! My Mom traded in a 55 Sierra Custom with a a blown engine for the Matador and my Father traded in his 59 Sierra Custom(rusting rear quarter panels) for the 61 Polara. Loved both...as any FYI in 64 my Mom traded in the Matador for a Beige 64 Custom 880 and my Father in 65 traded for the first year Monaco...wish I had them all! All were ordered from Hutchison Dodge in Columbus...my Dad's rule was cars are only good until 40,000 miles then it was time to "move them along";)! I kept all the car brochures and still have them to this day. It took me 15 years to find my 60 Polara Wagon:

https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2013/01/03/hemmings-find-of-the-day-19...

The hardest decision ever was to sell that car..but knew with my blessed fully loaded life with my family and no time to show and share the car it needed another owner...awesome memories..thank you!
