I was wondering through an old salvage yard the other day and a fin caught my eye. I think its a 58 DeSoto Firedome 2dr HT. It looks pretty beat up but complete. The engine is in it and glass looks complete. Thoughts about its possible restoration or is it probably a parts car?

It really depends upon what your skills are and what your budget is. The other things to consider are how rusted/bent things really are because that can be expensive to straighten out. 2-dr HT's aren't very easy to come by anymore. The glass looks pretty good.

It all depends on how bad you want to save a particular car. This car can be saved. Is it worth the money? That's not up to me.

Do your research. If the former was named Lebay, she'll fix herself if you love her.

That poor car looks mighty "crunchy" for a fixer. If the outer body looks that crusty,
I suspect the inside is going to have real troubles. It would likely be an easier and less
expensive route to find one with a better body. This car shares a common body with
all 58 Windsor, Saratoga, Firedome, and Firesweep coupes, so it's not total unobtainium.
I knew of a nice one in these exact colors near Albuquerque 20 years ago.

What could be 'saved' is its VIN plate & P/T plate, if they designate a particularly well optioned/colored/trimmed car.

Depends on how much you want the car. Personally, you would be dollars ahead to find a better example, and start with a more solid car. Michigan cars are not known for structural integrity after setting in a wrecking yard in the weather for years.

She looks pretty tough, I think it will take a lot of time, hours and money to put that ol' girl back together again. I think you'd be better off trying to find another car, but this looks like it might be a pretty reasonable parts car.

If it were a convertible, hell yeah. But this car would mostly need everything from other cars.

Looks like somebody parked that car "by ear".
