OK so I got my disc brakes all mocked up last night (can't install because my grease seals and soft lines are backordered still- and I want to paint the rotor hats/calipers/backets) and my wheels do not fit. The centers of the Diplomat rotors are HUGE and the centers on my wheels that fit the drum hubs (that are tapered) were fine but now they are 1/2" from seating when they bottom out on the drum.

Looks like I am buying some new wheels (I wanted to anyway but now I have no choice).

:-)

I am going to be picking up a set of Ridler 675 on Saturday if all goes well. Still on track to be road ready for 4th of July weekend.

This is why I Like the A-body 11" rotors. Alot of what people say will technically "Work", they forget to mention it doesn't just "bolt on"....Alot of little hidden things like this to look at.

I realize this thread is a bit dated, but I ran across it researching this swap. Dukeboy's comment confuses me a little. By "A-body 11" rotors" he's referring to the Dart Duster rotor, correct? I see that as the same part number (Raybestos 7032R) as the F-body (Aspen/Volare) and L/M/J Diplomat rotor Destr0 is referring to. If they're listed as the same part number, how can Dukeboy's preferred A-body rotor have a smaller center? Or is the real issue here that Destr0 is test fitting a drum wheel and not the required disc wheel?

The problem is the wheel size/profile. Cars that used the later big brakes had 15" wheels with a specific center and rim profile to clear the calipers.

But the Diplomat rotor isn't the big rotor, it's the same 11" rotor used on the Dart/Duster, etc., that had a 14" wheel.  Is the caliper design that much different between the Dart and the Diplomat?  Or does it have to do with the style of the caliper slide?

i dont think the diameter is the problem here, more so the hub not allowing the wheel to seat properly.

maybe it's backspacing, what does the inside of the rim measure, and where (it's not a perfect hole), compare that to the outside diameter of the rotor/caliper, how about the spindle diameter and the rim diameter for the spindle? ....................................just some thoughts

The Diplomat/aspen rotor while it IS 11" rotor, the rotor hubs centers are DIFFERENT. Yet, another reason I don't like the Aspen/Diplomat set ups...

I called this way back when about the Aspen/Volare set ups. Tried and tried to tell people these will NOT just "bolt" on like the "aaj style" kits that use the A-BODY rotors. Everybody wanted to try and find a "cheaper", "More common" set up off Volare and because a couple people stated they "Had no problems and fit like a glove", this became the "Swap to do"...I just gave up trying to help anyone anymore.

Sometimes, one can tell someone that the train is coming and get off the tracks. Tell them to look at the smoke rising, the whistle blowing, the rails shaking, and some have to get hit by that train to realize the train is coming....
